Total Newbie to Simtropolis, And bored of SC4 buildings

I have SC4 Deluxe and I am looking to download a building pack for more variety in my buildings when I play. Where would I go about getting this? And yes, I saw the CD advertised, Im a bit short of cash ATM so that really isint an option.

You can browse the STEX here and find many many many many custom buildings to add to your cities.

Yep, the STEX is simply the best place to look for custom content. It might look a bit... massive - and it is, but after you spend a couple days downloading everything you want, you can do some pretty incredible things!

The Stex contains around 10, 000 lots for you to download. The Stex is free. Take your time to search through it. Try using the Keysearch. Search words like tower, house, apartment, factory. It'll take a while, but it's worth it.

Also note that some buildings do not behave properly, and having too many buildings and mods will cause conflicts and crashing, and unless you have a hyper-pimped-out-supercomputer, it will make everything r e a l l y....r e a l l y. . . . . . ..s l o w.

search for users like simgoober, equinox, porkissimo, etc., and teams like BSC, BLaM, HKBAT, NDEX, etc. that should give you some really good BATs.

There are also other sites out there like sc4devotion.com, simcities.com, simphoni.net (English), capitalsimcity.com (Spanish), toutsimcity.com (French), simcity-plaza.de / simforum.de (German), simcity.cn (Chinese), and many Japanese sites about which you can learn more in the thread "A Guide to Japanese BAT hunting".

The download collection on Simtropolis is by far the biggest in volume, the disadvantage is that in some cases the values might be screwed up. In any case it's advisable to steer clear of older ploppable lots.

Other sites have smaller exchanges, but you may find stuff there that's not on Simtropolis, and some of them impose mandatory checks on uploads. This slows the process of filling the download section down quite a bit, but avoids unpleasant surprises.

In the long run, all these sites are good for the community, and it is up to you which approach you prefer. As always, there is not THE optimal solution, and you can always mix...
