wrong section, also, you need to learn about proper capitalization. there is a tutorial on how to download and install in the omnibus. in the future, look there before starting a thread.

Ok first things first alot of maps have instructions that go with the map detailing how to install it those instructions are proven to work. These instructions are part of the description and in the case of SC4M files they should have a readme file attached.

If not there is a  set of instructions somewhere

    instructions for 8 bit maps

In anycase i would recomend that you get hold of a copy of SCTF as it will enable faster rendering of a region and modification of the region to suit your tastes.

If you use SCTF I still recomend you understand config.bmp files and create your region manually by making the region folder and then adding the config.bmp file. This applies mostly to 8 bit regions but also to any region you wish to create.

SC4M files come with the config.bmp file included in the format and that one is used on import to SCTF.

SCTF, you don't need it to render a region [map].

Without know what you did, there is no way to tell you what you did wrong. One thing you didn't do is read the instructions in the stickie topics in the Mapping Forum., or the articles in the Omnibus, there is a entire section called Omnimaps.

You still didn't bother to say what steps you took to render the region.

I am willing to help you, but I need to know what you are doing, so I will know what went wrong.

If you tell me what map you are doing, I will take a look at it to see if there is something wrong with it. Not all grayscales on the STEX are valid.

I downloaded the map, did you know that the region is 99 large cities?

I am rendering it now, I will let you know how it does.

Edit:  The map rendered ok, it is mostly flat with some hilly terrain on the east side.  It has lots of rivers, nothing like I remember Omaha.  But maybe it is more of Nebraska than just Omaha.

It rendered in less than 14 minutes, but I have a really fast computer, with 2GB of memory.

Note:  Make sure the name of the grayscale appears in the selection box below the list when you select it.  If not then you need to type the name there.
