I wanted to create Hong Kong in Simcity a long time ago, but I couldn't found the right map nor some crucial components which can't be missed in HK - e.g. (Star) Ferry

Thankfully somebody was kind enough to provide the terrain of Hong Kong on this site. So I immediately start working on the city after I got my copy of rush hour.

The City's not quite finished yet, I've just finished the Kowloon penansula and some satelliate towns and I'm only starting to build the Hong Kong Island.

The construction of the city is "half" real and half fictional, no cheats have been used and

Here are some pictures of my city.

empty.jpg
This is how it looks like before I start

oct9.jpg
This is how it is today, still quite alot of works to be done

oct9t.jpg
The transportation map, I made the highways and the road networks according to the real ones. I've utilized the underwater tunnel bug to create a cross harbour tunnel. Cos an unrealistic bridge in the middle of Victorial Harbour will ruin it all.

tsingma.jpg
The famous Tsing Ma Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world
To the northwest is Gold Coast, a great place for vacations, the airport express and highway are still to be done.

tst.jpg
A closer look at the Tsim Sha Tsui District, you can see the Star ferry terminal, Ocean Centre, Bus Terminal, Cultural Centre, Nathan Road, Kowloon Park, all as real as it gets 22.gif

I'll post more pictures as I progress21.gif

    Thanks for your comments 1.gif

To frogface, yes the original jpg terrain file does include parts of China (shenzhen and shekou)

however I cropped the image a bit so they're cropped out in my version

carlching are u from hongkong since you know so much about the place?

Some comments anyway.... your choi hung district is too far east and as u should know the victoria harbour is so polluted that it doesn't look blue at all..so maybe your harbour is a little unrealistic

but i do have to say that u are really good with creating the region..taking in minute details everywhere..even kowloon park and nathan road all in the right proportions(more or less) and also even the island near the tsing ma bridge

Good Work on the overall though..i look forward to updates!!!24.gif

P.S hope u can add railway to shatin and beyond cause it's definitely supposed to be there2.gif

The Tsing Ma Bridge recreation is very neat, although maybe a ground level highway would suit the bridge better than the avenue roads.

Also, did you put the Bank of China in yet? Hong Kong obviously wouldnt be Hong Kong if such a famous landmark was left out 7.gif

Oh and stage 8 building are really hard to get, but if any pop up in the city centre, let us know!

Marvelous recreation. I dont have the patience or skill to recreate the city I live in (Sydney)

Starting to look much like the real Hong Kong. One thing though, the real population of Hong Kong is nearly ten times more. 22.gif If only there was a Central Plaza, International Finance Center, The Centre or Peak Tower.

    ---UPDATE---

First of all Thank you sooo much for your praise.

To Donald, Yes I've lived in Hong Kong for 14 years, but now im in Australia for my studies, kinda miss home so I made this try.

To Simant, I've tried highway, but the only bridge type I got was the Golden Gate... So...
The bank of china tower's here today 22.gif

To norwoodman, Do you live in Adelaide?
I would expect 3M population after the whole region's finished

    -------------------

Ok Hong Kong has grow overnight (LoL) The pop. is now at 950000, Bank of China's Placed into her own place, and Im start getting lvl 8 commerial structures 1.gif

I will present you with 4 new pictures today

    oct10.jpg
It starts to look like the real Hong Kong now, I myself's quite shocked too. Hahaha, it's a miracle.

    harbour1.jpg
A close look at the Victoria Harbour, the city skyline is starting to form.

    mongkok1.jpg
A well developed district, and quite old, It's the centre of kowloon pen.

    westkowloon1.jpg
West Kowloon, Kuai Chong, the island on the left is Tsing Yi, One of my best friend is currently living there! The highway extends to the northwest is Tuen Mu Highway, It's got a 16000 cars traffic flow now, much like the real.

That's it for today, there will be some zoomed in pictures on specific locations next time hopefully 21.gif

Nice region. I used to live in Hong Kong once.

Hey, can you show some other pics such as the subway system and Shatin? (I lived the first 5 years of my life there). And I noticed Shatin doesn't have a river...

    Thanks for your comments

The MTR Subway system's not very real so i'd rather not show it 5.gif

Although all the real stations are in their own places, there are alot of fictional stations. I had no option since the commute time will get very very bad if i didn't do it.

I'll start to work on Shatin very soon. The ShengMun River's quite hard to recreate since It's located at the boarder of 4 large maps. But i'll do my best 1.gif

I'll post some pictures of the homes of the rich guys soon21.gif

Carlching, I do live in Adelaide's eastern suburbs.

Hong Kong is a city that is one of the most interesting to me, since many of my relatives and parents came from there. I know it almost off by heart.

    Hi Carl,

I have built a hong kong map before. How many lagre map are you using now? Below is my post in the past:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=34739&forumID=36&catID=8&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={249A5726-6CC7-4B79-AC6A-2F566C16B9C3}

I am thinking to build a new one with rush hour and maybe larger in scale.

    Hi Chan!

I've seen your work, it's amazing, especially the road network. I can tell that you've spent alot of time on it 1.gif

Thanks for your region config files first of all~

Actually my hongkong's composed of 16 large cities as well

but the difference is that i've cropped the region jpg image, so mine is about 30% larger than yours

However the Hong Kong Island's still too small i think, It's quite hard to plan the streets.

If you do start a new project on Hong Kong please do let me know! I'll be looking forward to your work 2.gif

    ---UPDATE---

    Sorry for the late update

here are some pictures that would bring you closer to my Hong Kong

    VICTORIA PARK
    victoriapark.jpg
This is the largest park in Hong Kong, it has two soccer fields and a big open grass area (which is very rare in this "skyscraper forest"). It's been the gathering ground for various activities and political movements. Just before I left Hong Kong I participated a demonstration which was started in this park.

    KOWLOON PARK
    kowloonpark.jpg
A beautiful park with lots of facilities like themed playgrounds, indoor/outdoor swimming pool (which I could not recreate 23.gif). Just outside the park is The Park Lane, a very popular shopping street. The recreation of the surrounding of the park is very realistic, you'll know what I mean if you've been to the park 2.gif

    EAST HONG KONG ISLAND
    easthk1.jpg
The main residential area on the Hong Kong island. Very densed, mostly occupied by mid-wealth citizens (in real life and in game) while the rich live on the hills.

    RICHY RICH
    highcomplex.jpg
Heres a residential highrise complex occupied by the rich guys, a very typical complex includes several very tall buildings, swimming pools, club house, tennis court etc.

    THE POOR
    estate1.jpg
An estate on Tsing Yi. Here's where a typical poor Hongkongese lives, a public estate. It doesn't have any ... decent facilities and the apartments are so cramped up you can always see what your neighbour's doing in their place through your windows

    HARBOUR
    harbour2.jpg
Finally a beautiful harbour view. The development's strangled and I can't get more skyscrapers to appear 23.gif
Have to work harder I guess

Anyway... Thanks for your support 21.gif

Your work is very beautiful, looks like you've been getting exactly what you want (except for those skyscrapers you want). I love your city, and I specially love it because I'm obsessed with Asia, lol.

Good luck and happy city building.
