Strange Street Crossing Combinations

Hi everyone,
did you made the same discovery, that streets cross in different kinds, depending on the way you create them?

/idealbb/files/street4.jpg
The first intersection was made by placing the grey road near to the black.
The secent intersection was made by placing the grey road onto the black road.

Can you tell me, if the two different versions take any effect on the behaviour of my sims, or is it "just for the eyes" ?

Edit: [ sorry I saw too late, that questions don't belong here]

In the top intersection, the first tile off of the main road is also a road tile, the rest are streets.  In the bottom intersection, the first tile off of the main road is a street, as are all the others.  You can tell by hovering the query tool (either one) over the road/street tiles in question.  Since road tiles have higher capacity and faster travel speeds, it will have a slight effect on commute times and congestion.

The best reason for using the top style is that capacities are lower in and near intersections.  As traffic volume increases at an all street intersection you will notice that congestion first becomes a problem at the intersection and the first two tiles away from it.  Rather than upgrade all of the streets to roads to solve this problem, some mayors may only upgrade the intersection and a couple tiles in either direction.  Later, if the rest of the street tiles get over crowded, it may become necessary to upgrade them as well, however.

I use the bottom intersection if the traffic on the street isn't too great, that way the trafic on main road isn't slowed by an intersection. But like Ombedor said, you will probably end up upgrading most streets into roads. I start off with roads in many of my residential neighborhoods, but even if you use low density, you can only put so much traffic on them.

I prefer the lower one.  If you notice, the automata on the road will still stop at the lower intersection (in Rush Hour, not vanilla SC4 as I remember).  This defies the appearance of the intersection, though.  I've brought this up in the "Post transportation bugs here" thread myself a few days ago, since I don't know if it actually affects the simulation, or it is just visual.
