Hello. This is both my first BAT, as well as my first post on Simtropolis. But this isn't about saying hellos, this is about this BAT I'm working on.

I'm designing it to be a floating hospital. Floating in the sense that it's on water, and can only be built on water. Well, this isn't exactly my first BAT, but my first one blew up in my face (didn't texture right for some reason, and was literally floating above the ground), but I was never going to release that one anyway.

Anyway, here is a picture of what I've got so far.

I think the helicopter pads are a little to big for the building. Anyway, please, give me suggestions, as I would rather not get "flamed" when I post this. Eventually.

Hello, welcome to ST, and good luck with the BAT!

The idea of a floating building is definitely cool, but highly unrealistic for a hospital IMHO. Accessibility is key for a hospital - not only for patients, but also for visitors. So I'd probably choose a different function, but a floating building? Heck, why not? 4.gif

However, unless you have already mastered the BAT's basic features, I'd recommend you start with an easier building to get a hang of modeling and -most importantly- texturing. Many tend to be over-ambitious and pick first projects that they cannot really pull off satisfactorily yet for simple lack of practice and experience with the BAT. Of course, the choice is entirely yours - I just thought I'd mention it.

Anyway, have fun and enjoy your stay!

I don't know, well I mean, accesibility is key and all, but isn't it as key to boaters, cruise ship passengers, and NAVY officials as it is to "land dwellers"?  It's a neat idea, just be careful; people on the STEX are "critics down to the very lot itself", so to speak. And if you haven't already, check out this Omnibus article.  It's been extremely helpful to me.

Keep calm and take photographs.

    I'll look at that, thanks.

As for transportation, are you talking about in game or if this was a real building? Because if this was a real building (which it isn't of course), then the Helipads should be more than enough (as there are 5 of them), and I might add those marina boats as to make it a little more interesting.

If you meant the game, then I have no clue!

looks like a great start. might i suggest making this a building that comes out of the ocean? that would be pretty awesome.

well if it was a special hospital for victims of a hyper contagious disease with an uncertain cure, or perhaps a facility conducting various "experiments", then being on water and having limited accessability would actually be a good idea

I'm going to remake the hospital in BAT (I designed it in another 3D modeler) or start from scratch in my current modeler, as I have learned how to make windows properly (heh). I would like to ask if anyone has a free source of textures, as I can't find my camera.

There are may textures on the stex.  Otherwise search google for the type of texture you are looking for (such as: window texture) and you will find bunches!

All the textures I've seen on the stex are locked for some reason (I haven't been here long enough to know the back story of this place). I'm going to try to hit Google, but I still wouldn't mind a zip or something.

    EDIT:

I'm re-making my hospital in BAT (not my previous modeler, as I couldn't figure out how to make windows in the same or similar ways that the BAT can). After a few hours of modeling, I've noticed that it's quite shorter now (now being 15 stories), but at least there are the starts of windows.

I think I may have gone a little crazy with the array button.21.gif
