Ahh good-o the old embarassing job thread.

Wait for it.

McDonalds. Im a "crew member" at the weekend

I normally work either the 6am-Midday shift, the Midday-6pm shift or the 6pm-Midnight shift. The 6pm-Midnight one is worst on Sunday when you have sixth form at 8am on Monday

There's nothing shameful in working with a fastfood restaurant, or being a clek, or being a janitor, or a delivery route, or doing farm work , etc.   These jobs build skills and responsibilities that carry over into potentially more desirable careers down the road.   I'm proud to say I've done all of those, and also add shoe shiner and golf grounds keeper, and maybe even more if I could remember, as a yute.

Back on subject, I am a supervisory clinical social worker.  (Now you can laugh. 2.gif

There is nothing shameful about it, But I cant help but force my opinion's on others. Fast Food is Evil. No, not because it is "bad for you" I eat at Diners all the time, and thats just as fattening and unhealthy.

But because Fast Food represents Imperialism, That is America forcing their culture on the world. There are no multinational sushi chains from japan banking off the USA, There are multinational curry houses from India banking off the USA, no German sausege chains ect., than Why do we force Hamburgers on the planet?

Just wondering . . . how are we "forcing" hamburgers on the planet?  There may be hamburger chains in many places but no one is forcing anyone to eat there.  People in Japan, India, Germany, or wherever can choose not to eat there or not.

But, getting back on topic, I had a fast food job while I was in school, along with a rather odd job printing sheet music, and working as a math tutor.  My adulthood jobs were various forms of computer geekdom.

My last, and next, paying job is as an election judge.  Nothing like a 16 hour work day, mostly on your feet, that pays less per hour than the neighborhood 13 year old gets for babysitting.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. Hell No. If anyone, It would be Ron Paul, I may disagree with him on many economic issues, but he is the one who will definatly shrink Government and bring back individual rights.

I also don't like mainstream socialists, As most of them are blind Marxists and see the State as a means to impose socialism. Yes, Big corporations are bad, but big government is worse.

Currently working two jobs for the summer, to save up for tuition payments, books, rent, etc when I go back to school. I'm a cashier at Sobeys (grocery store) and work as a summer intern for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, as a GIS Assistant.

My job certainly is not sexy: I work on the freight team for The Home Depot. But, it pays the bills quite well - and I consistently work my behind off.

Other times, I get some extra money with some writing projects here and there.

I work at a Quizno's, as a Shift Manager. Not all the time though, sometimes I'm just working as a regular team member.

I pretty much can do anything that they need me to there.

It's not great, but it's money for college. I'm hoping that I can get a job in a lab in college, as I'd eventually like to work in research.

But that may take a couple of years.

I know how that goes.  I'm an office assistant at a local company, and while I technically am supposed to be filing paperwork, I pretty much do whatever they need me to do, which is everything from assistant network administration to paperwork filing. 3.gif

I'll be damned, I agree w/ Terminator about big gov't being the worse of the two. Common ground about anything is precious hard to find sometimes.

No shame in fast food, all the Fortune 500 companies see McD's exp as a plus if you did it well! My own wonderful wife was a manager for 2 1/2 years and performed excellently.

Was in past: Fast food drone, medical courier, telemarketer(what a friggin' nightmare), bicycle messenger, cold caller at a stock brokerage (selling Amgen! lol, manimal) etc. etc.

Now; Structural fabricator taking it easy in a production environment, working for a company owned by the German conglomerate Karcher making water treatment systems for gov't agencies and corporations worldwide. Some truck-portable systems get parachuted to troops in Iraq, for the civilian water needs. Good motivation to make it right; little Iraqi kids drink water from purification machinery I help make.

I'm a lab assistant for 11 different labs in a university (actually, I think my official job title is research assistant now). My main job is to wash all the glassware, but I also sterilize everything, help with experiments, go to the library, order supplies, defrost freezers, fill jillions of pipete tip boxes, check the labs for radiation spills, get incoming packages and bring to the labs, and many other things.

I work 6 days a week trying to keep up with everything, and I rarely get to sit down. Been doing this for almost 17 years now. Im getting too old for all this running around.

Over the summer, I work for my older brother who owns a business making after market parts for Volkswagons. I do a bunch of fabrication, work with machines, powder coat and clean. I think I clean more than anything. I work with guys that are nearly 30 and they do not know how to clean up after themselves.

    I really couldn't have a better job, it's fun! 5.gif

As of right now I am unemployed, but I hope to get a job working in the IT department at the college I attend.

Previously I was a clerk at an ice cream shop, clerk at a convenience store, night stocker at a grocery store, and a kitchen aide in a hospital. I'd say the convenience store clerk job was the worst job I've had thus far...dangerous and you get paid just over minimum wage starting out.

"Why do we force Hamburgers on the planet?" = People wouldn't buy them if they didnt want them and I know that because trust me people where I work do want burgers.

Also there are plenty of alternatives. There is a Pizza Hut over the road, Boots sells sandwiches and salads (where I go for my lunch) and Tesco is a supermarket.

I dont like McDonalds as a company but they are good enough to employ me and pay me minimum wage for working.

"There are no multinational sushi chains" = Ok, its not international but it is very big in the UK Yo! Sushi and itsu. Also Marks and Spencer, Boots, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Waitrose, Asda and Wh Smith all sell Sushi in their food departments, especially M&S who have large selections in their Food Court.

And a further point there are plenty of foreign companies operating in the UK, and Im sure in the US. For example HSBC (Hong Kong), T Mobile (Germany), Aldi (Germany), Lidl (Germany), Netto (Sweden), Shell (Holland), BMW (Germany), Volvo (Sweden), Heineken (Denmark), Volkswagen (Germany) and so the list goes on, and on, and on, and on.

I work at a grocery store, Krogers. It sucks but im moving up and get 30 hours a week fit around my personal schedule and not vice versa. So its decent compared to some places

Used to work at freebirds, a mega burrito place like chipotle.

One other place I used to work that will not be named, the other employees liked to smoke pot and there were rats running around the kitchen. I would work bizarre 2 hour shifts twice a day and get paid on a 2 1/2 week pay period. That got old real quick so I left.

HamsterTK: I used to work in a welding shop were guys smoked pot openly, without attempting to hide it, and the boss smoked meth and left the baggies on the floor! Needless to say, calling in sick was not something one could get in trouble for. I left years ago, but that stuff still goes on and the new boss just comes in drunk!

GingerBlokey: Is the Aldi you refer to a cut-rate grocer? There is an Aldi's chain in the midwest USA and the food prices are crazy low, one could fill 2 carts with food for under $100 US. Not everything is low quality, most of it is made by big commercial producers and picking well was like getting free money.

I'm a kitchen worker at McAlister's Deli (probably very few, maybe even none, of you have heard of the place). I make sandwiches, prepare potatoes (spuds) and salads, prepare soups, wash dishes, take out the trash, clean the floors and walls, and more. It's not a bad job; I started when I was 16, so I've been there for a little over a year now.

That's the one. I wouldnt say it was that cheap but then youve got a selection of bulk/cheap retailers like Makro, Lidl and Netto. I dont really venture into Aldi very much, Im more of a Lidl man

My main job is a real estate appraiser, but I do a lot of related work as a consultant in the real estate and financial fields. Since I have my own business, I can take anything that comes along that is within my areas of expertise as long as a) it pays well and b) I don't mind doing it!

I've also played bass professionally for many years.
