Hello. I'll post some pics of my bats in this thread. I'm not creating bats for a long time...that's why I look forward to some comments and suggestions1.gif

The streetball court I started some days ago is finished by the way. I was busy though but I try to upload it later!

This is my latest 'project' :  Palmetto Tower - a fictional tower.

I'm not happy about the night lighting41.gif I added the lights for the first time... I gotta improve.

What do you think?

Welcome aboard! Hope you'll like it here! and that you have patience enough to stick around!

What size is it?? Post Zoom5 render so it would be possible to see what we are looking at.

Generally it isn't bad! Not at all. One thing that looks a bit odd is totally black part of the tower "saucer" facing the ground in the day view...

Thanks for the comment. Whenever I choose the 'zoom 5 render' the same image appears (zoom 3, ...). The size is 800x5000 though (the zoom3 render is 150x1000 or something like that)42.gif

Remember that the tower isn't finished. It's not very detailed yet!

Look at the bottom right on the screen, and it will say "Grid = XXX", and that tells you how big your grids are. Before you start working on something, zoom in until it says "Grid = 1" so that you know that every grid equals one meter.

I got some bad news but also some good ones.

Bad news: i had problems with the export of the Palmetto Tower [ it took me 1.5 hours for 22% of the progress and then it just stopped moving]

Good news: i started a new building. It's a fictional store called Greg's Store

I really hope that i'll be able to export it. I'll add some details and add some better roof textures.

By the way the sign doesn't have any texture yet - it's not intended to be blue.

Sorry for the bad quality. I hope you can see it now, Jacqulina!

Btw this is zoom 5...is the building too small??

Looking good your improving fast. Might i suggest that yo try to make the roof texture a little less busy because it takes away the rest of the model.

    Thank you!

    Update:

    gregsstorenightjm6.jpg

    EDIT:

I just exported the building but there are some problems: the nightlights don't work and you can't see most the props (the streetlights are visible though)

    Update 2:

Your preview comes out so small cause it is scaled to fit the dimensions of your screen. If you have a wheel mouse you can click inside of preview image and rotate the wheel to make it bigger or smaller. Problem would, however remain! As Preview window doesn't have any save button, and any screen grab would, as name suggest, do just that - grab what is currently on your screen, and unless you have absolutely top of the range display system you wouldn't be successful in getting it t 100% size of Zoom5. Such a function could be scripted though... But 5000 pixels??  100m would be about 500pixels (497 pix to be precise) So you structure would be about 800-900 m tall?

Yes you're right. I definitely had some problems with the height...the unit setup was also wrong back then.

I started something new - it's a shabby looking multifuntional building (shops and apartments). I hope you like it.

And as soon as i know how to fix the problem with Greg's Store it will be uploaded if you like!

The car props, and some other props, aren't always there.  They come and go.

For Bayshore Hotel, I'd work on the design of it some more.  Try to imagine where the elevators and rooms and lobby and things are.

I think you might want to double the width of the Bayshore, it looks a bit unrealistic right now, but the design looks cool. Great improvement!

    Thanks for your comments!

    SimRabbit, i didn't forget the door/entrance4.gif It'll come soon.

Jasoncw, yes I'll work on the design. It lookks too plain right now.

    jacqulina, thanks!

    SimFox, it's not done yet.

XSpiderman, thanks and I'll do that.

    Shabby looking buidling:

    133pu2.jpg

I 'll upload screenshots of the current Bayshore Hotel later!

    EDIT:

I don't think it looks really good...but oh well... I'll definitely edit the entrance.

    1333333ko2.jpg

And you can also see that there are some texture problems (the roof).

Momo, did you see Jasoncw's response about the missing props? I've run into the same problem. Depending on which props you use, some of the cars are meant to be present during regular business hours, or school hours, etc. during the game clock. Unfortunately, the Lot Editor doesn't TELL you which are which.

Jasoncw, is there a way to figure that kind of thing out other than to just plop the building in-game and wait for the cars to show up during the 24-hour game clock? Maybe with the Reader program? There's gotta be a better way than just trial and error.

I've never done it myself, but seasonal props are commonly made.  It's probably not very hard.  Another way to find out, is to open Maxis lots, and see which props they use for office buildings.

I knew they had different schedules, but I didn't realize that they corresponded to business hours and things.  I'll have to pay more attention next time I lot something.

Sorry guys I won't continue with the Bayshore Hotel for the simple reason that I don't like it...5.gif

But here's a new one: it's an office building . There are offices at the top and some shops at the bottom of the object.

    Height: 108 ft (33m)

I recommend adding some peach to the wall texture.  In SC4, things tend to be more peachy than in real life.  After that, experiment with the color of the window frames.  I think having darker window frames would create more contrast, and make the building look better.

For the ground floor, try adding more blue to the textures, so that it matches the rest of the glass better.
