Hi!

Since I'm back again I would like to place my nation on the map. If the brown area at O-16 is free, I would like to use it.

Hey simzebu, I think I found a discrepancy in the map. If you look at Foxenburg, the river that is supposed to flow south into Schnabo stops at the border. I think it used to be a branch off of my major river (I wouldn't be opposed to it being re-connected to my river either). Just thought I'd bring this to your attention. I posted this over in the NS forum too.

p.s. - sorry for the double post.

Our great holy empire of Vartorgan will give you the honor to welcome us into Simtropolis. May the blessing of the gods light your paths.

.Demontra IV

(This empire is totally controlled by the local church, this is why it's so.. like this xD)

It's the first time i play to this, still a bit lost, i'll try to find my way.

Would be nice if someone tell me everything i should do, i do not want to miss something important ^^'

If possible, on the map, if it's still free, i would like to build my holy chuch city in the yellow region near the ''N. canal zone Met Hou''

Shasta: Ah, I meant to fix that. It'll be taken care of in the next update.

Maal: Welcome to Simtropolis! Feel free to request a spot on the map.

Thanks for the quick reply... looks like someone else just snapped up the area below me now, so I've gone with the expanded land and islands ... I hope it is suitable to everyone else part of this community.

Simtropolis Region Map

I've still gotta pick a spot for my Capital, most likely the Eastern Coast and some one can add a few more rivers in if they like. I've added a few large lakes to help in the process.

Hi!

Do you think you could add some islands outside the eastern coast of Schnabo? Doesn't really matters how they would look, aslong there is a few of them.

Schnabo: Sure. Do you want to draw them or do you want me to? I'm fine with either.

sc4portugal: Welcome back! That'll be in the next update.

WARNING: Long, involved post ahead!

So I got to thinking about establishing where Simtropolis lies as far as north and south go. We've basically figured out that we're in the north Atlantic, but not really where. I'm thinking that we could make the south edge of our map be at about 30 degrees, and our northern edge 66 degrees.

Pros: This is better than being further south, because this placement allows for more climate options.

Plus, nobody has to be in the Arctic Circle (though some are close)

Also, there would be few places in "horse latitudes," so colonial navigation in the gulf would have been possible. They would correspond to about 17.5 and south. The major places in this area are Audland's Hamilton River Delta, and the southern rivers of Schnabo).

Cons: The northern countries would be really cold.

What does this mean for climates?

In latitudes north of 35 degrees, the prevailing winds move toward the northeast. I would imagine this would make the southern rim of the gulf relatively cool and dry, due to rain shadow from the mountains. However, if nations like Met. Hou. and Foxenburg want warmer climates, warmer gulf waters could contribute to higher coastal temperatures.

Southern Schnabo would have a climate similar to the Mid-Atlantic US, since it's a similar situation geographically.

Northern Schnabo and non-gulfside Foxenburg would be about like New Jersey to Boston, but with a little less rain.

TDN, Uytland and that area would be quite a bit like Europe, but maybe a little bit warmer.

Goobergunchia and the north coast would be cold, probably similar southern Sweden, maybe northern Scotland. Vartorgan, your area would be about like north-central Canada

Macania and the western rim would be cool and dry. Costal areas could be warmer due to the gulf.  I'll guess Poland and that area, maybe?

As for the unclaimed western places. That top yellow one would be quite a bit like Alaska. I would imagine that the rest, depending on mountain formations, would imitate the American west coast.

Of course, all of this is guessing. I'm not an expert, and the factors aren't all figured out yet. So this could all be fudged quite a bit to make your area's climate more to your suiting.

I know that was a long, involved post, but what does everyone think of this?

Sounds like you got it all figured out, Simzebu. It provides for a wide range of climate areas in the region. Surprising enough, if this land really existed, it would be very much like you described it. Especially the Gulf. I'm sure a branch of the North Atlantic current would split off and enter the Gulf to warm it. I'd place it's temperatures around the range of the northern Gulf of Mexico (maybe a little lower). I would also suggest considering the Rio Seguin Delta in Met. Houston as a major city in the area. It's the major seaport on one of the longest rivers in the region.

Yeah, I put quite a bit of thought into that. Thought that should have gone to my history paper. 22.gif

Anyway, here's the newest update to the map.

I've added some rivers in a few places, and removed the names of the few nations that CTEd recently. If you want a spot, feel free to ask!

Simzebu is sitting at his desk, having fun playing SC4 and surfing the Interwebs. Little does he know, a dark being is sitting in the shadows. Suddenly, the screen turns white, with a blinking cursor. The dark being is now hanging over simzebu. He looks at the screen, and notices there is no text. He realizes there should be ten pages of it as the dark being crashes down on his poor, unsuspecting, body. He struggles to type it out letter... by... letter..........

In case you didn't guess, RL is slamming down on me right now. I was smart and put off my history paper until way too late, and now it's burying me. But one way or another, it'll be done with by day's end Saturday. I'll update the map for y'all then. In the mean time, feel free to do what El Burro did, or just post here. And in case the post at the regional board disappears, Western Mithgard requested the pink area on the Southern continent, next to Metro. Houston. (more to remind me of it than anything else)

Wish me luck!14.gif

Ok, y'all. I made a NationStates country a while back before I saw this Simtropolis thread, and I am now a part of the region Wysteria. I regret to say I am not going to join the Simtropolis region... sorry... I have made good friends in Wysteria, but I was wondering if any of you would still be kind enough to answer some questions for me. I have an issue in my nation that looks like this:

Auto Industry Struggles Against Foreign Imports

The Issue

Cheap, foreign-made cars are becoming increasingly popular, causing concern in Nexexen's automobile manufacturing industry.

The Debate

"Unless this government does something, Nexexen won't have an auto industry for much longer," says auto industry union boss May du Pont, in a rare public appearance alongside management. "These foreign companies employ people for a few changements a day. The only way to level the playing field is to raise tariffs. The government would make more money, too, so it's win-win."

[Accept]

"For once, I agree with my grubby colleague here," says General Chassis CEO Max Frederickson. "Although I have to say, tariffs aren't the only answer. A more effective solution would be to abolish minimum wage laws. Now that would level the playing field. And we'd be able to employ more--argh, let go of my throat!"

[Accept]

"I think we need to face facts," says noted economist and chat-show regular Konrad King. "We live in a global economy now, and automobile manufacturing just isn't Nexexen's strong suit. There's no point taking money from taxpayers in order to line the pockets of a few greedy workers and corrupt managers in a doomed industry. Let the market takes its--argh, let go of my throat!"

[Accept]

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recieved this issue and I wonder how each resolution would affect my nation. Any ideas? Any answer is great. Also, I recently seemed to do something that made my high income people have to pay a whopping, communistic (which I don't want), 100% tax. Would the third issue change this? Thanks for any answer... Also, how would each issue affect my economy. Thanks you for any help. If you know anything, please reply... Thanks!

^I'd say the third might help with your taxes, but the first would move your economy toward more capitalism. That's just a guess, though.

And here's the new map, hot off the press!

Only 9 spots left!

Hey Simzebu, you might want to consider expanding the region map when you get the chance, as there are 21 nations in the region, but only 19 spots on the map.

CowboySean, if that 100% tax is really eating away at your soul, then go with the third choice. Otherwise, go with the first one. More capitalism might end up having a greater effect on your nation's economy in the long run.
