NationStates.net Newbie Information: NationStates.net (NS) is a website where you get to create your own virtual nation. As time goes by, you will get to shape your nation to your own idea of a good place to live..or not. You can join the UN and vote on UN Resolutions...or not. As the website says, it's really up to you.
It's quite fun, and you can always quit if you don't like it. You might want to try it!
Your nation exists in one of about sixteen thousand regions. In a region, you get to elect a regional UN Delegate to represent the region on aforementioned UN Resolutions, see who makes it to the top of several regional rankings (i.e. Safest Nations In [region]), and generally hang out with the other nations in the region.

All ST members are welcome, and invited, to move their nation to the region and play NS with your fellow Simtropolids! Though there is no password-protection or anything, I do ask new arrivals to please give your ST username, either here or in the forum at the bottom of the region page. It's just a security precaution, and so we know who you are.

This thread is for STR members to discuss anything related to the region: Welcoming new arrivals, introducing yourself, discussing region events, campaigning for UN Delegate votes, etc. etc. The forum on the region page only shows the last ten posts, so it's kind of awkward to talk about anything, hence this thread.

I PMed SkiGeek about starting this thread, and she said it would be OK. She also said that we can discuss the UN Resolutions and Proposals here, as long as we keep the discussion on the issues and NOT each other.

Oh well, they're just the UN Categorizing people, what do they know.

This is because it was created and is populated with people I know in real life.

NOTING the increasing trend for computer networks to be interconnected and to transcend national borders;

AWARE that the vast majority of businesses and most national and international economies rely on these systems and the information contained within;

ALERT to the dangers of allowing such a vital and grand-scale system to remain unprotected by international law; dangers which could cause massive economic, and other, damage to individuals, corporations and states alike through the damage or theft of computer systems or the information contained therein;

PROHIBITS the following practices:

1) The use, spread, and creation without proper safety precautions*, of computer viruses and other similar malicious programs including worms, Trojans, or any other program which damages, or otherwise adversely affects, computer systems; or destroys, damages, manipulates or steals information without authorisation. This excludes security specialists in their attempts to find new ways of defending against viruses, so long as they are creating and using such programs solely for that purpose, and do not use them without the authorisation of the owners of the computer system. They still may not spread them, and they must use proper safety precautions* (*to prevent spread and/or direct damage to computer systems or data in them without the express permission of the owners).

2) Computer hacking, defined as the intentional unauthorised access to, or unauthorised use, theft, manipulation or damage of information stored electronically.
