It's at about 11,000 population, and I am making money but the city won't grow.

I can't get any higher residentials buildings and most of my commercial areas are unbuilt.

Any tips? I'll post a picture later.

Also, I have a farm town in the same region.

What kind of cities would you reccomend building next to it?

It is a medium lot with one small residental town and the rest is farms.

maybe your city has reached a residential cap.  do you have positive demand for residential zones?  in order to relieve the cap, build parks, flower gardens, softball fields, etc.  park lots provide cap relief and allow more residents to move into your city.

that's up to you.  some people build industry only cities next to their main city.  others build a utilities city tile which provides garbage, electricity, and water services to the other cities.  while others build on a regional scale and treat neighboring city tiles as extensions of the main city.

If you have plenty of money, start adding all the extra amenities like libraries, parks, rewards, and landmarks.  Do you have an airport? A seaport? Train connections?  All these thing should bump up your demand.  Also, play with your taxes until there is more demand.  Good luck!

For your developement problem try waiting until your city hits about 26,000 people before going to try and build high wealth commercial/residential buildings.  Also, commercial developement can be a pain in the butt when trying to get development as far as avoiding repetition so maybe you don't have enough demand.  I advise to raise your population; zone some residential areas, and try lowering taxes in commercial district.  I hope I helped you, thanks very much.

Parks and plazas help. If you have other successful cities surrounding it, they should also influence your demands for certain things. The way I get certain industries and businesses in is by setting high taxes (20 percent) on the industries I definitely don't want and lowering the taxes for the type of industry and businesses I do want. I usually over tax the dirty industry because it messes up a lot of the desirability and contributes a LOT to the pollution. If you have a lot of industry, then they are most likely the problem.
