So Maybe Some of Us Fathers Don't Go fishing...

It might be a different generation, there are some thing I remember doing w/ my parents growing up in the country that I don't do w/ my kiddoes raising them in the city.  But I was actually encouraged by this article,     Video games encourage family bonding, mostly b/c I do play computer games w/ them.  As a parent I share what my likes and passions w/ my children just as my father shared what he liked w/ my brothers and me.  He had thing for gardening, fishing, nature, and sports (I think he like too much tv though!  3.gif).  Part of it though is that my kiddoes and I do do other things such as go to various museums, parks, and city festivals, etc.and that's probably key.    So, new generation or old school in a new package?

Well if your not in rural area its not easy to do

the fishing/nature hike thing with any regularity.

Ture nature that is not a park/camping area.

There is nothing like fishing to get you relaxed, that is if you find a quiet place

not over run with speedboats. Quiet is good for conversations.

You know I think of Wii as today's "Twister"! (not that I could see my dad ever doing that then either! 17.gif)

Ill have to give Wii credit for some of the things they came up with.

At least the kids not just ploped down in front of the TV only moving the thumbs

Hmm.... you know, I wouldn't have thought of it given that the only involvement in video gaming my parents ever shared with me was my dad and Duke Nukem, but video games are before their time, they didn't have them growing up. Now there are young couples out there with young kids who played Atari and Nintendo growing up, so they're more into gaming, and thus are more inclined to do so with their kids.

And yeah, come to think of it, if there ever came a time where I had children, I'd probably be gaming with them, too...

Frankly, folks, i took my son sailing and taught him to sail.  He got his marine radio license at age 11.  He also got his White Sail rating on his own dinghy about then too.

The main bonding thing you can do with a son is something that gives him great responsibility.  Teaching him to skipper my 29 foot sailing cutter and letting him do the job, helped grow him up into the young man I am currently very proud of.

My dad beat my brother on the Wii , while playing Wii sports a few times, and he's never played a video game before. 3.gif

As for the things my dad and I do, we usually do work around the yard together (or, he pays, and I plant 3.gif).

Of course this does. Why can't we accept video games as something like fishing, where people socialize and catch up with each other?

Sorry, sold my boat about 10 years ago.  I am now an armchair sailor, which hurts because I live next to one of the busiest yacht basins on the Great Lakes.

Because were not supposed to be lazy. Which is kind of implied when your just siting in front of a TV playing games. weather thats right or wrong, i dont know just, pointing it out.

Plus the fact when your playing a game you kinda tune out

    everything else around you.

I remember fishing... back then when I didn't know video games, and couldn't speak english, lol...  But a nice big fish or a long hike in the country will give more family bonding than any old video game.  Now because of city development, there is less room for fishing and more room for video games, with family bonding 9.gif.

in my opinion, as long as time is spent together then it doesn't matter whether it's bonding over video games or bonding over fishing trips. i grew up playing video games, from atari, NES, SNES, PS, PS2 and PC. so one day when i do become a father, i feel that video games may be one way i'll be able to bond with my son/daughter. but, it's also important to pick up on other interests that your kid may have (like outdoor stuff). me and my dad used to go bike riding, my family used to go camping, and my mom used to play super mario on my NES (it was always fun watching her play). i guess the more things you have to share with your child the better. the time spent together is the most important thing.

You also do that when you're playing sports or hunting or fishing.

you guys were talking about fishing right, i get my own experience with it, i guess you guys enjoy and laugh...i had a little adventure with my dad... he lives in Brazil, 300 miles away from the Amazonas River, so we're on vacation, and decided to go fishing, no better place than Amazonas River to go, right?! So something mixed of fun and danger, happened with us that day... He got a biggest fish from the Fresh Water, they're called (Pirarucu) thats the excactly name in Portuguese... this took more than an hour to get done...and still we didnt get put the fish in the boat, so we thought.. what can we do now?!! lets use a roap and pulling it outside of the river...oh guys believe or not, that fish's weight was 322 LB, we had to load this in the car and bring home...hahaha...that day was great and a lot fun... passed couple mouths me and my dad separated, i came to US and him still live there, i hope see him next year when i go back home... ah other thing, if you are interested to know about PIRARUCU fish...search on Google, and learn something about it..

or the father wants to play video games because of the kids, in my case. however my dad still has trouble with the terms. for example, he calls my 360 "gamebox"
