The more I read about Simcity: Societies, the more I'm convinced this game would fit into The Sims franchise better.

Would it be better if EA and Tilted Mill changed the name to The Sims: Societies and have it promoted to The Sims fans?  Should we try to convince them, the hardcore Simcity fans, that this is a The Sims game?  How do you feel about it?

---------

I grok what you're all saying.   Maybe SimSocieties is better, as UrbanSprawl suggests?  Would it be useful to try to convince EA and Tilted Mill it would be better for us hardcore fans if they didn't try to push this as a Simcity or The Sims sequeal, but rather as a new franchise in the Sim universe?

Simcity would be the urban simulator

The Sims is a personal life simulator

And SimSocieties (SCS) as fantasy city-builder

This game is not a Sims game or a SimCity game. Sims players expect a doll house. We expect an urban planning simulator. Societies is neither, it's a nation simulator limited to city-states like Tilted Mill's other games. It should just be called SimSocieties and they should add trade, military and war options with neighbors. It is a whole new game and they won't have to try to fool Sims or SimCity players. The name SimCity leads us to expect certain fundamental features like RCI zoning, which is the heart of SimCity since the first version.

As a Sims II player, I don't think of myself playing a "doll's house". Granted that many Simmers do play out stories, but the Simtropolis City Journals suggest that many Sim City fans do too. TS2 is more of a life simulator w/ a certain amount of Will Wright whimsy. I play The Sims II for the same reason I've always played Sim City: I'm curious about happens next in my game! I guess I reserve judgement on Sim City Societies until they release more information.

Again, no one knows what the structure is like. I don't think it will allow you to be a resident and walk around the city at random. SCS may not be a Sims-type game, and I must say that the Sims is not like playing in a doll house.

I like the name.

"SimSocieties" (as to a society simulator). It sounds like a totally new sim game that does not ruin the name of the SimCity franchise.

edit: Somebody post this idea on the TMill forums. 4.gif

This is a pretty good idea. SCS is neither a city sim or a dollhouse. This might sell even better if they take a middle way and make this into its own series. Let's watch and see what happens.
