A hypothetical attitude of TM and EA

As any literate person here knows, there is a lot of backlash over the concept of SCS. The lack of zones, power, and transportation options is pissing a lot of people off and TM is bearing the brunt of the ire.

Over at their forums there is a thread showing off how the community made SC4 their own. Big, beautiful cities with a lot of custom content.

Now, TM seems to be taking the attacks pretty well, but perhaps they're tired of hearing about it. I have a hypothetical attitude that they may have. There are not many features in SCS that we are familiar with, and we boast a powerful custom content base. In fact, that's pretty much our pride and joy.

Does anyone perhaps think that TM and EA are just going to release a barebones SCS with editing tools and just say to the community, "Since you people are so good at making custom content, make your stuff yourself. Subways? Make it yourself. Power systems? Make it yourself."

It is perhaps a more pessimistic view, but entirely possible given some people's attitudes.

You want a pathfinding engine make it yourself , what happens if no body makes one , what happens if nobody makes nothing for SCS , why should we/they . You cant rely on the fans to finish the game . Anything that is added comes as little bonuses and shouldnt be an essential feature . imho .

I Think that they might be trying to do something like this....

They release a game with nothing in it, and then start making expansion packs. With this theroy, EA will ultimatly make more money.

They might have a build you own building thingy, but the chance that they wan the fans to finish they game seems a little far-fetched....

Well, they already mentioned they were going to add some possibilities to introduce custom content, so I think an editor of some sort will be likely. Everything else is speculation.

However, IMHO it is highly unlikely that this will allow to add anything that changes anything fundamental of the game. If there's only one transport network (more for eye-candy purposes than for function, as it seems), then you probably won't be able to add multiple networks, a pathfinding engine and anything like that.

I guess it will be possible to add more buildings, maybe even different road textures, but that's about it.

It's a different game - face it. The fact that a chess simulator comes with some editing tools doesn't mean you can turn it into an ego shooter.

Nice work Anaxamenes! I have been lurking on the forum for a while now, but this is my first post. I have finished both campaigns on hard and was about to give up and go on to play something else until I saw your post. I haven't had time to play the whole scenario yet, just the first couple of years, but from what I have seen, it is very well done. It's obvious that you put a LOT of time and effort into this. User content like this may keep interest in Caesar IV alive long enough for TM to release an actualy patch and fix some of the problems with the game. I'll post some screen shots later on after I have finished the scenario.

Judging by some of the posts on the TM forums you just might end up having to finish it yourself. You want a patch to fix all the game bugs , meh make it yourself

Well, I don't think they're gonna release a barebones version of it, but they might make it possible for us to strip it down and make it different. Hopefully they'll do that after seeing us riot over it.
