To me spam will always come in a small can with a key that inevitably breaks off.

If you really want spam take a look here. Catchy music or what? 17.gif

If someone pays a compliment or simply says "well done" then that can hardly be considered spam (imho). Not every post needs to contain something constructive, though sometimes it would be nice to be told why someone things something is well done.

Spam is the posting of advertisements, abusive, or unneeded messages on Internet forums. It is generally posted by automated spambots.

Spam prevention and deletions measurably increase the workload of forum administrators and moderators. The amount of time and resources spent keeping a forum spam free contributes significantly to labour cost, and the skill required in the running of a public forum. Marginally profitable or smaller forums may be permanently closed by administrators. Forums that do not require registration are becoming rare.

This is from Wikki! Thought i would point out the "meaning" of Spam is more based on advertising one's self etc.

I would say that any comment concerning a CJ that is ment to be encouraging and supportive or even constructive falls in line with a "needed" message and is not Spam.  On the other hand someone that posts -- "Hey great job -- good pics -- now go look at mine at www.simtropolis.com....... yaddy yaddy"  -- Now that is Spam.

Most of the time I don't think I'm spamming but other members do. And then those members tell other members which then gives me the title of spammer. See what I mean. It has happened before.quote>

I would say you spam an awful lot in your "Biggest CJ Ever" (a title hardly deserving of the thread), by alot i do mean heavily. For instance, you haven't posted one image at all but you reply to every single comment with a post. I'm going to cut through the hand-holding here (because I know fully well that a few of you are thinking exactly the same but wont say due to reprisals or what not).

There is nothing wrong with making comments such as "nice work" or "good post" etc, but its bad when you do not post anything at all and yet reply with the same old nonsense. If you don't have the proverbial goods in your CJ you do not deserve to reply. You push everyone elses updated CJ's down the list, that's why I object.

As long as there is a point to your post and not simply bumping your thread constantly, you'll go far. Continue on your present path and I can assure you, many will regard your "worlds biggest CJ" as nothing more than a joke, if they haven't done so already (for weeks of promising the goods, yet failing to deliver).

Don't worry Its not called that anymore and I only reply to certain posts when they ask a question otherwise all th e posts just ask it as well. You'll have to wait and see what comes of it I haven't updated as I haven't played Simcity 4 all week as I have been out most of the time and you can hardly call answering questions spam.

Then I'm sure if they are indeed questions, you can respond via PM, instead of bumping your thread and letting people who do update a position deserving on the first page of the CJ section 4.gif

I feel you, Cleaner. As someone who has gone from posting quite a bit to passing on responding to posts due to the fact that some seem irritated at the number of posts, I no longer feel as comfortable responding spontaneously to threads that catch my interest. As far as you posts, I have never consider you to be anything even CLOSE to a spammer. I don't think a comment like "Nice job" is spam at all. If I had a CJ or BAT and someone posted that, I would be quite appreciative and delighted. I agree that the tone of some responders to comments such as that has gotten, well, hostile might be too strong a term, but it's what comes to mind at the moment. You're not alone in sensing this. I used to comment on every BAT that I downloaded, even if it was just a "Nice job" response, but in the last two months or so, I haven't commented at all. Thinking about it, that's probably unfair to the BATters, but after seening other posters getting heat for something similar to what I was going to post and reading comments about "wasting bandwidth", I decided to cut back on my posts.

If you (or anyone, for that matter) has something meaningful to post, however short, I say by all means, go ahead and post it. I consider "Nice job" to be meaningful. If someone has something negative to say, unless it's done in a constructive manner, or someone wants to whine and complain, then please, don't waste the bandwidth.

Keep on posting, Cleaner! I, for one, am interested in what you have to say.

I don't think people should worry about spam too much, as long as people don't post every 2nd or 3rd post in a topic, or advertise their CJ in a place other than their sig.

I agree - but what about bumping up your CJ? If you get no replies doe sit matter if you just bump it up? I don't mind it if people do it once but some people do it every few posts which is really annoying.

I was once told that as long as the post has some new information or is a response to comments, it is not bumping.  So just make sure that you are adding something new (even just an update without pictures) with each post.  Do not type "bump" or say something like "no comment?"  That will be frowned upon.

Only say something if you have something to say.  Don't post for the sake of posting.  Don't post just to participate, only post if you have something meaningful to say.  If you keep that in mind, there won't be any problems.  But don't be afraid to post.  1.gif

    Be afraid, Be very afraid...

For every time an unneeded comment is posted the spam monster comes a step closer. You don't see him for he lives in those posts that aren't read, those comments people ignore and the STEX comments which request new BATs.

If these comments are everywhere, the spam monster is everywhere and one day he might just... leap out... and get you.

    @mjig_dudy... lol 3.gif

I don't really see "great job!" and "well done" as spam, I mean some times this is all that keeps a thread alive.  But some good hard criticism is always healthy and wanted so that one could improve.  So unless you move down the cj section posting the same comment over and over again, don't be afraid to post.  If you are, be very afraid 22.gif...

    Just my two cents...

I'm not going to name names, but there are users who are obviously posting in CJ's to boost their post number up. This isn't a game, guys. If 2/3 of your 3,000 posts are "nice job good work" there's obviously something fishy (and annoying) going on. Respect isn't earned through post count. Sometimes it could be the opposite.

I agree - I respect lots of people that only have 50 posts - I respect people by quality and not quantity although some people do post 'good work' but not for post count. But there is a barrier between being a very active member and a spammer.

I know a few people that in my view do it for post count and its probably not the ones you'd think I'd say But I'm not going to name them now.

I'm sorry but how the hell does posting a compliment count as spam? That is ridiculous.

Some people think that something like 'good work' counts as spam because it is to shoprt and not dexcriptive but I wouldn't normally count it as spam. Mostly I'd count it as a compliment.

If thats what you mean but I would never count a compliment however small (unless to letters) as spam.

well personally all replys to me our wonderful, it dosnt matter, at first ill say yes cleaner you kinda annoyed me with you good job posts everywhere and all your talk in the forums...i didnt think it was spam (mr ham) ehm but it just seemed like you were trying to get a point count, that and the post everywhere else in the forums, but you settled down a bit, and now your post are much more elaborate, so now even if you think they are fake, they still mean a lot because me and other people on the other end dont know that...so i wouldnt worry about what other people think...or if your a "spamer" look at jacky she has like 20,000 post but never EVER would somebody call her a spamer...i enjoy her coments the most probably...spaming is just when youpost on 100 peoples CJ's at once bumbing the newer ones to the bottom and the older ones to the top...that's what annoyed people so much i think...so to cleaner keep on posting!!!!!
