haven't got picks yet but these are figures (made up but reasonably accurate) on how big my airport is

Capacity: 50 Million (the airport is pretty big)

Terminals: 7 Large International terminals, 1 Domestic Terminal

Runways: 10 Runways

Major Airline Hub for: V Australia, U.S Airways, South African airways, emirates

Distance to Downtown: 23kms (approx 15 miles)

it takes one medium square grid so it is pretty chaotic however. Pretty much the regional hub.

@CraigKingOfIreland: Great airport! Really realistic setup as well. One especially good thing about your setup is the spacing between the gates and the taxiways. After all, the planes need room to turn around and pass on the taxiway without destroying their wingtips. Wonderful! I also take note of creative use of the CID Headquarters building.

Roger51: There's no 2x1 runway pieces (that I know of), so you'll have to either lot it yourself or move the rest of your runway one tile to the side. On another note, you need to put more space between the cargo (?) planes and the taxiway, as other planes would be bumping into them 3.gif I think another taxiway parallel to the sigle runway would look a lot better, make traffic move more easily. Where you have the few buildings, I would lower the height of the ones nearest the trees as they kind of look like they could be blocking the ATCT from views of the runway. This is a very nice airport though, the problems are only really minor ones (:

Thanks for the advice, I will add a second taxi-way to the side. As for the buildings I will see which ones I have that are smaller and fit in the space. The cargo bay area has been downsized and fits better.

I will see how well I can use the LE and see if I can fix the problem. Just wondered if anyone had a solution or knew of one.

The SWAP airport package has a 1x2 RWY piece (with dirt edges), which can work if you're not into lotting yourself. Generally the airport packages add a lot of clutter and it's hard to find just the right textures, especially with the prefab airports installed.

Nice airports, everyone!

I'm starting a whole region full of little cities and I'm wondering where you got that one blue/brown tiny airport terminal. It's used at the end of Page 57 and, well, page 57 half way up, too.

Wow... so I don't mean to offend, but there is a lot wrong with that airport. The runways are too small, and configured in dangerous positions and directions. One of them also has a dangerously steep slope in the middle. Too many 747s gates that would be impossible for the planes to get to. The terminall building looks too small for the number of gates the airport has. One of your air traffic control towers in being blocked by a dangerously tall hotel. Convention centres should not be part of the airport (unless they're before check-in, customs etc.) Also, I don't think there should be that many trees near the runway (wouldn't want animals running in front of the runway XD) You also need more taxiways, and those yellow lines that lead up to the gates. There really shouldn't be cargo out in the open where planes need to drive past.

Hope you see this as constructive criticism, because you do look as if you have the capability to put the work in to making a more realistic airport... =/

I would have to agree with Craig on this one, with a bit more time spent on the airport it can look much more realistic. However, it is good to see you get used the idea of a custom made airport. If you have any doubts about making an airport, just spend some time and look at the nearest airport near you and you will get idea's on how to build an airport.

Thanks for the constructive critisim. You're comments help me make better airports. Next project: Navorni County Regional Airport.

I could look at my hometown airport, but it's an 8 gate regional. Perfect for the next project, but not big airports like this.

Thanks again,

A contribution of my own to this fantastic thread: Redford Airport, a single runway airport, serving the northern cities of my region Victoria and West.

Airport overview, looking south - Not the biggest of terminals, but nevertheless expanded several times.

Redford_Airport_Overview.jpg

Arrival of KLM from Schiphol, Amsterdam, one of the latest destinations added.

Redford_Airport_RWY.jpg

Terminal 2, the latest expansion to the airport. This was necessary due to larger planes put in traffic by international carriers.

Redford_Airport_Terminal2.jpg

The cargo terminal is separated from passenger traffic and is located on the north side of the runway.

Redford_Airport_Cargo1

Close-up of the cargo ramps, facing north.

Redford_Airport_Cargo2.jpg

Finally, every aircraft needs fuel. These tanks do the trick.

Redford_Airport_Fuel.jpg

That's it for now. I sure hope you had a pleasant flight - withouth me killing your bandwidth..
