Awesome airport...what's that hotel next to the Doubletree? I really like the set up and the parking lots are awesome, though I frown upon cessna's taking off from the same runway as a 747, but that's just nitpicking, I really think GA should stay off of large airports, leave it to the big jets.  Anyways...awesome airport, the infrastructe is great, I give it a 5/5!

That's a very creative and realistically presented airport there, seemurray2!  Nice work!

Also, you'll want to look out for one of mine soon. 2.gif

seemurray2 - Very awesome airport. My only suggestion would be to consider extending the taxiway on the left-hand side of Runway 9R, parallel to the highway. It's not a huge deal, though.

Patricius Maximus - You should probably work on your runways a bit. Spread 'em out a little more, make them longer, and have more taxiway entrance/exits. Also, you probably need more space between the terminal piers, as it doesn't look like there's enough room for a 747 to taxi to a gate. Try to go for a greater variety of aircraft types as well. Other than that it looks like you have a fairly decent start.

Excellent work on that airport, good attention to detail, the only problem is spacing, the terminals(concourses) should be spaced further apart, as well as the runways, both of which, or at least one, should be extended.

The use of the lights, and the markings on the runway are very well done.  Except they should be in a different order, the aiming point is after the numbers.

I believe it goes like this

"L" "R" "C"

"Numbers

"Triple Lines"

"Aiming Point"

"Double Lines"

"Single Lines"

"Single Lines"

"Single Lines"

I'm not sure though.

Hey guys,

I do not have a complete airport.. this will be my first attempt at one, so here is what I have planned out:

pheonoiainternational.jpg

Ok, not much, but I would like some feedback.  The Runways are currently just placeholders.. where I plan to place the real ones...  any suggestions?

bighaben -   Thanks, that hotel is the Holliday Park Plaza Hotel, by Bixel:     https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?p=results

I like your idea and will probably make another smaller runway for GA only to use.  Thanks!

pilotdaryl - Thank you, and I am looking forward to seeing your airport!

The_Hutt - Thanks, and that is a good idea - extending the taxiway left of runway 9R.  I am going to do that, I was thinking about putting some economy parking there, but there is enough parking already!

SIMplMn9: First thing that strikes me is the hill towards the top of the runways, that should be flattened ASAP, otheriwse it renders the ILS for those runways useless... Same with the trees on the left hand side. Other than hat, the length looks good for up to A320/ B757 size (I think). Other than that, as long as you built a good terminal, it'll look great!

SIMplMn9: Nice start, as somebody said here before, flatten the hills, but i think you don't have to destroy all these trees, just some. After adding taxiways and terminals you will have a great airport.

waway625: really great looking airport, just one question, where are these great cargo planes from (I think DHL &FedEx).

feliwi: The site is http://homepage2.nifty.com/tabinohito/newpage12.htm

You will need the Lot Editor however, as the planes are props.

waway625: Nice airport, I like how you've utilized the small space available. I also love the first perspective shot showing the whole port area. Very realistic and nicely done. I don't think people appreciate how difficult it is to pull off well.

waway: Thanks!  But A320s cannot fly Transpacific lol

krbe: You'll have to ask hyped_up_boy for that.  The planes were rendered by him for his CJ.

Just thought I'd post this picture of a terminal that I've been working on before I tear it down and then reconstruct it 8-12 tiles to the left.

Suggestions on improvements for the new terminal are welcome, but keep in mind that I am working with limited land, and I want to keep the general layout of the terminal complex the same.

This a wonderful thread. Just what I was looking for.

I'm at work so I can't create any image links from here. But I'm attempting to make a small airport linked to (gasp) a spaceport, using Somy's objects! It's so the shuttles can land there as well as take off. But I'm making it so it can handle smaller jets too. At least, I'm trying to do that. And it's all on reclaimed land in a mid-sized region. I hope I have enough tiles for the runway....

Coyote Seven: For a Space Shuttle runway, you should have at least 220 tiles of runway length at your airport. That can also just about handle a 747 aswell 4.gif.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.  3.gif

Oh well, I can always move the main city to a new region and start over!  The spaceport, not the city I've been working on, that  is.  If I'm gonna make a runway that long, it might as well be a proper international airport!

EDIT: As well, from my quick and dirty research on the subject, a runway that's about 3,048 meters long should be enough for any aircraft.  That works out to 190.5 tiles.  Scale isn't a perfect match for the real world in SC4 though, so I could probably go as low as 150 tiles and it should still look ok.

I have to work out what the taxiway for the shuttles would look like though, to take them back to the launch tunnels.

I think it's the ingame prop; Dash 8's are only boarded in the front, and without external stairs.

No, the ingame prop is the ancient DC-6

one time i took a 747 from manila to davao, after landing, it stopped somewhere in the middle (or just a few hundred meters from the middle)

DVO has a 3000m runway and maybe we only used 2000m of it

waway: It depends on a lot of factors, such as amount of PAX, amount of fuel, weight e.t.c.

yeah i forgot to note that the plane that was supposed to be used for that flight was an A330, it was almost full (based on the check-in counter status where we were to choose our seat) but the A330 had problems so we used the B747 so there were some vacant seats 4.gif (PR A330 was 2-4-2 but the B747 was 3-4-3)

anyway a little OT..will the airlines save more by using larger planes but less flights instead of using smaller planes but more frequent flights? coz in my city (davao) Philippine airlines uses the A330 (and sometimes the A340 or B747) for the Davao-Manila flight (around 1 hour and 30 minutes) and cut the number of flights to 4-5 a day for that route

Its not only the passengers that count. an A330 or a B747 will be able to carry far more underfloor cargo than a standard narrowbody like the 737 or A33/340. It's the same thing here in Europe e.g. on the Frankfurt-London Heathrow run. BA and LH regularly deploy A300-600 or Boeing 767 on that route, and it's not necessarily because of the passengers or the available slots at the origin and destination. Underfloor cargo pays the bills. Every passenger seat will most likely produce extra income.

regards

Thomas
