This is the Laval International Airport, desserving Laval (900,000 inhabitants) and Hochelaga-Boucherville (400,000 peoples)

Commuter rail link is provided to the downtown of these two cities, but most travellers use the freeway to reach the airport: both acces from Laval (Next city to the west) and Hochelaga-Boucherville (Two cities to the east)

Nice airport!

But if you want to look more real, your diagonal taxiway configuration is improper to today's standards.

You should invert the diagonal taxiways to point in opposite directions. You have a V setup where upper end of the V is touching the runway. Actual airports today use a ^ setup where upper side of ^ is touching the runway (or the lower side of V), that is if I am explaining this well 1.gif

The diagonal taxiways were originally designed to allow jets to clear the runway as soon as possible so that ground controllers can unlock the runway for another aircraft. So, as soon as aircraft touches down and slows down as it rolls down the runway while landing, you want it to steer off of the runway while it is still in the process of slowing down, instead of waiting for the aircraft to come to a nearstop on the runway itself. This also applies for take-off process, the aircraft should be able to take a soft turn to quickly enter the runway from the adjoining taxiways.

So the diagonal taxiway should join the runway in a way that aircraft can simply take a soft turn and enter in both take-off and landing situations, instead of a 180 degrees angle turn (which is what is required for an aircraft on your setup).

Hope this helps 1.gif

They are some very nice airports!
The question I want to ask though is about the transport connections around the airport.
I just have a standard Large Municipal Airport in my city but I don't see sims using it.
Sure the stat says that its working, but there isn't any traffic from the airport of people coming / leaving. Shouldn't an airport work like this or did maxis leave this out?47.gif
The only sims coming / going are working there...

HR186s: That's normal, there aren't any people moving to or from my airport either. Apart from the people working in the buildings and in the office buildings around it.

Bit of a bumpy runway and airport you have there. I recommend using roads or PEGs leveler tools to flatten that terrain out.

Here is the Thulan Airport located in the Myon Tropics area.

Where do you get the airport pieces with the curves and diagonal tarmac pieces?

Leech Labs: Where weird stuff is made. Your results may vary.

The Budget Terminal is for budget airlines. It is air-conditioned and it is rather samll compared to the other bigger terminals which means that the airport tax is lower.

jeronij, that's an excellent airport. Same goes for Blahdy.

Anyhoo, here's my contribution. It's not quite finished yet, but it's near enough to complete in order to post it...

wginternational3kc.jpg width=800 alt=Ima

wginternational25hu.jpg width=800 alt=Im

Now, that may or may not look like much, but I just spent 6 hours trying to finish it up!

In total there's probably a complete 24 hours work in that. What made it take so long was that I had to plop a LOT of lots... And then there was the various rearrangements...

Here's my little project, it's not finished yet but I'm close:

James A. Preston Columbia County International (PCX)

PCX is a real-scale 16m-per-tile 'small international airport' I constructed for my region, Columbia County. The airport grounds extend across portions of 5 cities. I took inspiration for the runway & taxiway layout from New York La Guardia. The main runway is 2.64 km, which could accomodate real-scale takeoff runs by the 767 automata if they were modded to do so. I'm not done with the road & rail networks outside the terminal yet, but the stubs are in place.

This is a 7-image composite overview. Bigger image here (836K). All 7 pics were taken at zoom level 2, but I had to cut file size so they look like level 1.

pcxcomposite2kq.jpg

One thing I've seen most people forget when it comes to making airports is general aviation. You'll find GA facilities at almost every commercial airport in North America, even the biggest. I put a small terminal and parking space for private planes on the east end of the airport. It can be accessed via the perimeter road. I used davidlinyj's weather station for the ATCT and Nat'l Weather Service.

gaarea3hz.jpg

I love the smell of avgas in the morning...

The terminal transit system features a mini can-o-worms. Elevated avenues and monorail stations provide two-level direct access to the parking garages from 3 of the terminal concourses.

mainterminal1kr.jpg

I used some extra real estate to put in ALS and PASI lights with molibdo's extras pack. My runways do not have the flashing centerlines on purpose - I save the flashers for approach strobes.

alslights2mi.jpg

I intend to renovate and expand PCX to state-of-the-art runways and terminals when SimWings releases the next airport pack.

Here's the airport that I worked on for about an hour today. It's small compared to some of them here, but I like it.

The mother of all airports is back!

As seen in BRAC community thread, these are construction images of Pakkusena International Airport (PAX/KPAX). You can find complete storyline and images on the Pakkusena city journal thread at: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=66448&pageNo=7&num=30

The airport resembles a look of Denver International Airport, but will not be a replica of it, as the airport layout will be modified to suite needs of the region.

I'm still doing a lot of building around Amherstburg, but I have just finished Amherstburg International Airport.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Amherstburg%20International%20Airport.JPG align=baseline>

As you can see Amherstburg International is located out beyond the suburbs. It is linked to the metropolitian area by two highways and a monorail line. The airport's cargo facility also has its own dedicated rail link.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Main%20View%20Airport.JPG align=baseline>

This is the main view of the airport. The cargo depot is located off to the right. You can see a line of fencing keeps the airport grounds free of intruders and animals that could endanger arriving and departing aircraft.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Main%20Terminals.JPG align=baseline>

Here are the passenger terminals and monorail line. Atlantica's former Prime Minister Miller sits atop the column at the bottom since it was his government that provided the generous subsidies that made the airport project possible.

Parking.JPG

Just below the terminals is the airport's major parking facilities. Passengers can park and catch a shuttle bus to the airport terminals from the central points around the parking lot or they can walk along the carefully tended wide pathways that follow the main road. Note the fencing and airport police kiosks that keep wandering passengers from interferring with airport operations while still providing access for staff. You can see in this photo the radar dishes and weather station to the left and right of the parking area.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Cargo%20Facility.JPG align=baseline>

Finally, you can see an area of the airport that few passengers ever see or notice: the cargo depot. The cargo depot is located beyond the airport's main terminals and has its own rail link to Amherstburg and the rest of Atlantica. Employees who work in the cargo depot have to drive significantly farther than their co-workers in the passenger terminals.

So that's Amherstburg International. It's a busy airport that serves a still growing region of 6,000,000 people. In the future, it won't be so isolated as suburbia is expanding Northward from the central city.

I'm wondering this as well since all I have to use is the straight tarmac pieces and there are places around my airport where a curve would look much better.

spa, you need Thalassicus' Airport Pack 2, which was never posted on the STEX for some reason. Paste this URL in your browser:

http://www.freewebs.com/thalassicus/Airport%20Pack%202.1%20BETA.zip

For anyone trying to get this file, I can sympathize! It's a little hard to find. The version 2.3 listed on the STEX is a typo, it's the older 1.3 pack by Joerg. Clicking on hyperlinks to v2.0 never works (reloads the page), and even right-click-Save-As doesn't do it (you'll get a file, but it's just the webpage where the link was, renamed to .zip). Also, the filename says v2.1, but the readme says v2.0, I'm not sure which is right but it works fine.

Thanks so much! I entered the link and downloaded the file it and it's working great. It's too bad that the STEX just has the old version. I'm sure their are many people who would appreciate the newer files but either don't know where to find them or simply don't know they exist. Anyway, much appreciated. So I guess Amherstburg International isn't quite done yet.
