Some thoughts on this problem:

  1. Most of us are not having it.  I am not, dirk is not.
  2. There must be some common ground among you and we need to see what it is.
  3. Please answer the following survey by posting in this thread:
    1. What is your line speed?
    2. What is your line protocol?  Are you using PPoE?
    3. Who is your ISP?
    4. What operating system are you on?
    5. What browser are you using?  Is it set to save files?
    6. What time of day do you download? (What is your timezone?)
    7. What version of the Java Run Time do you have?

EDIT:  Question on Java added thanks to paulus.

Stickied for a month.  NOB.

Locked 20/06/2007.  People continue to post messages without reading the thread.  So be it.  NOB.

well, i downloaded about 10 NDEX buildings from the STEX, and everything was fine, but when I was opening 3 buildings on winzip, Winzip said it was a corrupted file, and I had to download them again, one tower, I had to download 4 times before it actually worked. Also, when I browse around the STEX, many of the pictures of the buildings don't appear or take really long times to load. I am using Mozilla Firefox and I was downloading these buildings at around 8:30 PM US Eastern Time.

I am having both the downloading (corrupt, invalid) problem and searching problem.

I am not very computer smart, I need to know where I can find the info.  I can anwser a few...

1.  ???? High Speed Cable ???

2.  ??? High Speed Cable ???

3.  ? Adelphia Cable ?

4.  ? Windows XP ?

5.  IE 7.0, when I started having this problem I tried Mozilla Firefox and continued to have the problem using that...  I guess it's set to save files as some file downloads work???

6.  Eastern Time Zone (America...)  From what I can tell it happens at all times of the day.

Other important info...

-I only have problems with certain files.

-I have gone to the Pegs site, as well as the SC4 Devoution site and downloaded any ones I've had problems with here that are available at those sites successfully...

-The search problem just started today...

-Reloaded SC4, Cleaned out Plugins folder, still have problem.

EDIT:  I just successfully searched, as well as downloaded one I had the error on earlier.  Yet I still had the problem on another file...

What is your line speed?

DSL

What is your line protocol?  Are you using PPoE?

???

Who is your ISP?

Yahoo, through AT&T

What operating system are you on?

XP-Professional

What browser are you using?  Is it set to save files?

IE6,  don't know

What time of day do you download? (What is your timezone?)

In the specific incedent I have in mind it was 2pm (PDT) last Saturday.  I tried multiple times to d/l the new NAM.  Each time the d/l terminated early after any where from2-8 mb downloaded.  After at least 10 tries I was successful in d/ling the entire package.

I have d/l'ed many times from the ST-EX with no problem at all, this was the first time.  I did notice that the d/l speed was much lower than I am acustomed to, and finally, when I was successful it was d'ling at more or less normal speed.

Hope this helps.

I was having problems opening the zip. files too, but when I installed the latest java update, and downloaded the files from the stex again, the files were suddenly no longer corrupted and installed normally. Don't know if this is the best solution, but anyway it worked for me..

Granto93:  I am sorry, but this is a technical thread and we need those answers.  Please make like Rickiticitavi, and run and find out.  We are trying to find our why some people are having troubles with the STEX.  If you know someone who deals with your internet, as him to help you.

diva613:  We are trying to find out why this is.  Please read the first message in this thread and find out the answers for us if you don't already know.  The time for asking us to guess what you have at your end is past.

ilikehotdogsalot:  Go back and read the first post and supply the requested information.  We need to know some techy things, and if you don't know them, get help from someone near you who does, please.  We will never get this solved unless we know more about it.

Flumes:  Thanks for at least trying.  We need exact information.  Can you go to someone who knows and find out for us please?

mqsim:  Please try with Firefox 2.0.0.4 and let us know.  Can you get answers for the other questions in this survey (first message on this thread)?

hamsterTK:  Thanks for trying to help.  Your question is apt.  If you are also having these problems, please answer the questionaire in the first message on this thread.

    \

Teamjusten2004:  Interesting but we need more help.  Please try to get the answers for the questionaire in the first message.

John-SJ:  Thanks for your attention to detail.  Now, can you get someone to help you with the balance of the answers please?

Joeynymets:  That's find as far as it goes.  Can you help us with the rest of the questionaire.  Please find someone to help you answer all the questions.

Paulus:  Thanks for that.  It could be a Java update problem, but we need confirmation on that.  Can you answer the rest of the questions at the top of this thread or get someone to help you answer them?

Mingraphics:  Thanks, we will look further into this.  Could you amplify your answer with the rest of the information asked in the first message on this thread?  We are trying to find the common ground on this problem.

Thanks to all who responded.  If you can, please get the answers to complete the questionaire in the first message.

    In answer to N_O_Body, sure.

Can anyone tell me what is the line protocol being referred to?   Where do I look to see what mine is?

What is PPoE?  How would I know if I have it?

Where would I look to see if my browser is set to save files?

    Thanks.

Look on the net for the Point to Point over telephone lines protocol.  Try wikipedia.  As for the rest, ask your machine.

I've had the same annoyances as many members lately, though I've been around ST for a while and had never had problems downloading before. Here are my stats:

In order: 6Mb/s; cable service WITHOUT PPoE; Earthlink (through Time Warner; Win XP pro; IE 7 (downloads enabled); various d/l times; JRE v. 1.6

    I hope this helps.

Did y'all see my response to another thread about this? If not, here's the summary:

To fix this, I just clicked download, and let Firefox resume where it left off. Repeat that until the filesize on your computer is the filesize on the site. Then it should open.

One thing to note: Each subsequent download will have a new filename, ending with (1) or (2) or so on. So you may end up with a lot of files.

This points to either a transparent proxy issue (I have Comcast), some other internet issue, or the server aborting downloads prematurely for another reason.

    Cable modem (dunno speed)

Not using PPPoE, just regular ol NAT

    Comcast

    Windows XP SP2

Firefox 2.0.0.4, and yes, if you mean does it automatically go to save when I left-click a file

    This was mid-day, PDT

    I don't have Java enabled.

how_deep:  I have JRE 6.1_01.  Check for an update and see if things improve.  I think they may have goofed at Sun.

Mhatheway:  Same as above.  Can you check for a JRE Update, please?

Paulus:  Interesting.  Not sure if your version of JRE is later than mine or not, but I am not having this problem.  I was hoping there would be common ground, but I can't see any as yet?  Do you notice anything I may have missed?

    Definition:

    PPOE

    = Point-to-Point Over Ethernet

This Ethernet protocol is often used by DSL or ADSL providers, especially if they are phone companies.  Bell Canada uses this.

Still looking for a common item.  Does anyone who has looked this over see anything?  The universe of discourse doesn't seem to be narrowing down.

Well, folks, the problem seems to be with lengthier downloads.  I suggest Flashget, and if you are using Firefox, the Flashgot extension.

This is a work around, and not a solution.

Sorry, but I think this is the best we can do for now.
