Virus affecting Simtropolis members

Many here have gotten a virus via MSN. Please do not click on it. Your friend will accidentally infect you by sending an IM reading "*link* r these your pics?". When you click the link, it will ask you to download the "pics". DON'T DOWNLOAD IT! My dad read the coding (because he's in the software business) and he said it's from a Russian who made a virus which infects not your computer, but your email. Your email and your friends email will be sent to spammers and spam-bots. It's a brand new virus so anti-virus protectors may not work yet.

Edit: Merge this with the one in the Current Events please. 3.gif

Indeed, the virus went around last year, and I got it.

It seems like its going around again, as several members on ST just accidently sent it to all of their contacts.

    So, yeah, any variation of

Hey is that you in this picture? 43.gifLINK

Also, I've just heard that in the last few minutes, up to 100 members got it at the approx same time, as they were in a large MSN convo.

If you get it, uninstall MSN immediately, and run a virus check.

Although I didn't want to move this to Off-topic, I'm merging it to the virus thread there. The staff convinced me because it's not a current event, but a general warning. (beebs 3.gif )

(Sorry if it seems selfish that I'm moving it to my own thread...)

This is good to know. Thank you for sharing this with everyone. Fortunately, I have not received anything like this via MSN or any other program.

I suggest that before you all get over excited deleting MSN off your computer, that you update your anti-virus, anti-spyware programs and do a full disk scan of both. This should tell you whether you have a problem.

Up to date anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are essential as washing your hands after going to the toilet. Along with sensible common sense precautions. If you are chatting to someone on MSN and they tell you that they are sending you something then it should be OK - ping back and say "Did you send me this?"

If something random pops up then exercise caution.

    Breathe folks, breathe.

you know, I must somehow be cloaked or something, I've never gotten a virus on MSN from a ST member even though I log on often and only have ST members for MSN.

I also have never been IMed something like that even from the people who apparently are infected...kinda weird 3.gif
