I don't get the "creative failure" thing either. Since we seem to have a say here the region will come out as a conglomeration of  all our ideas. So you're saying we'll all fail??41.gif  Oh, and I vote mild. Can't wait to see you start!44.gif

I think the extreme option could be the most intersting but hard to do ...

That's why I vote for extreme...

Mild wins so far... Currently the city is being built into the year 2030 in which point the CJ will begin with a storyline - it will be told from the point of view of a citizen who recently moved in... Thats all I'm going to tell for now as I have to go... I wanted to post to explain that this C.J. has not been forgotten - however I'm just having troubles with RL...

Totally understandable... Kentworth had to go on an unannouced 3 week hiatus due to real life issues. I look forwards to seeing what you come up with.

Alright so far I have come up with a suitable story line - and basic parameters...

The town is on an large imaginary island in the Atlantic about 1,000 miles east of the Gulf - Coal has already been discovered in the mountain ranges and is currently being used to propel the economy...  Rail lines are the primary freight transit to the city's Seaport...

The CJ will begin in the year Sim Year 2030.

The CJ will feature a humble Farm / Industrial Town - destined to grow into a Metropolis once oil is discovered...

The CJ story line will be based on the United Nations on the brinc of collapsation due to a Peak Oil Crisis - the discovery of enough oil in this region to propel the Nations for perhaps another 30 years however leads the U.S. into purchasing this territory, americanizing it, developing forts and even an Interstate system to protect this region and economy...

    There WILL be depressions!

    There WILL be disasters!

    There WILL be war!

Rural Highways will be included in suburban areas or rural areas along with realistic interchange should it be a designated Interstate...

Intercity Highways will remain Maxis Default with Maxis Interchanges (unless we see otherwise fit) to conserve space...

Currently the city is sitting at around 80,000 residents...

I'm still waiting on a new PC before I begin as my current one isn't going to beable to hold up to the expectations I have of this CJ... ... Some time soon it will start - any questions?

That depends on what you mean by expectations

I will say this - The region is going to start off small and eventually expand to reveal more land - I'm open for CJ combining so anyone who is currently running a CJ can merge their region into mine should a feasble way be accomible... Should that occur then of course the CJ will have dual artists...

    My expectations

I have no population cap limit nor any desired population in mind however I will say -  this isn't a fly-by-night city... ...If you're expecting to see a sprawling metropolis in 5 days then you're in for a huge disapointment, this city is more geared towards progression towards perfection on a slow and steady basis... although I will promise that in time it will become a large metropolis...

Anyone who desires to "live and participate" in this city and who can BAT can of course create their own homes and ask me to download / add them into city and they will even be included in the story line... Currently I cannot BAT for myself however I intend on changing that as time progresses...

The same goes for Amusement Parks, Malls, Rewards, Ect... if anyone should have anything they desire to see in my city with their credits - I will be more than happy to add it...

All road and transit work will be performed in live time (no pausing simulator) so alternate routes and sectional blocks will be performed instead of waking up on Monday morning to a traffic jam on a two lane road and returning from work that same afternoon to find an all new complete highway has replaced that road... (and your house)...

As far as the city economy goes - I will use Oil Drilling and Coal Plant bats should they be available - if not then I'll find alternatives or be forced into creating my own...

CJ - Timelimit - The CJ will begin in 2030 as I've stated 3 times before and afterward it is started it will run primarily on the slowest speed setting or in other special occasions, the medium setting ... each update will promote the current date in that city - once again I'm not looking to splurge an entire metropolis in the matter of a month but rather to share a story and a colluage of memories as the city slowly progresses step by step -  in which before and after photo's will be shared after revitalization programs, new developments, upgraded transit networks, and even after disasters... ...And no, I'm not afraid to burn the entire city to the ground regardless of how beautiful it is... ALTHOUGH Thats not my intent - it's just to add realism...  Basically I'm saying, don't be surprised if this CJ takes until 2009 before it reaches its climax because it will be a steady but promising project in which I invite anyone in Sim Tropolis to participate in...

Sound very cool, I like your slow and steady approach. I'm pretty good with the BAT now so maybe I'll make my house (or my dream house, perhaps). Can't wait for the offficial establishment of this region!

Sounds great! I like that your taking it slow, I've seen many CJ's where they start out small, but in two updates they have a population of 100,000+. Unfortunatly, I'm not very good at BATing, so I might just have to pick a house that just comes up. Looking forward to the first update.

Well the CJ will start with a population of around 100,000 people basically because it was profound with an already established economy.

I'm also going to initiate a points system in which will allow posters to become investors in this CJ.. to beable to purchases from Estates, to Subdivisions and have them named after them, to beable to request the foundation of subdivisions, plants, anything you name to be biult in their honor when opportunities present themselves in the CJ and they will be displayed in the city and regional interface for everyone to view...

    Basically with points you can

    Purchase / Biuld Subdivisions

Purchase / Biuld and Invest in Industries or Industrial Complexes

Purchase / Biuld and Invest in Commercial Properties / Complexes

Rename a Street / Road / Avenue or Highway to your own liking

Purchase / Biuld a Toll Road or Transit system to invest in more points (X amount of Dollars will grant you X amount of Points)

    You earn points by

    Simply replying to the CJ

Owning a home and working in the CJ (Whether it's a default Maxis home / Job or you BAT)

Fullfilling Bat Request's for not only myself but anyone who posts a Bat requests in this CJ (I've definately got a few in mind - Ground Highway Ramp that transforms into a One way road, WITHOUT the merge into a Parrallel One way Road...)

For now thats all I can think of but I'm open to new ideas...

Wow, a points system? I'd love to see my next upload here (it's a secret)!

EDIT: You may or may not have seen my upload by now; it's the Module College Series, and I'd be simply honored to have it in your CJ!  No, rush though.1.gif

Yes, a points system in which will determine the purchasing of land, opportunities, subdivisions, offices, any kind of biuldings, infastructure or streets mainly depending on the land value and how much you're willing to purchase...

I.E. An Ocean front Condo Complex with recreational and beachfront property is obviously going to cost more points than a trailer park off the side of the interstate... but to keep things motivated and fun I'll keep things as fair as possible...

...Also in the space allocated for purchase, I will allow you to submit your design plans for subdivisions ranging from how you want the streets to network, to exterior mass transit (bus stop, train stop if a rail is near - that will cost points though) and you can even design the wealth factor... - adding parks / tree's ect...

I've been stalling for time awaiting a PC that can handle SC4 and a steady internet connection to post from... I've attained that now and the CJ will begin in a new thread called "Blue Hope" That is the cities military given code name. I am going to try to set it up today and have it running tonight but if plans fall through I promise it will be no later than Tuesday...

I have devised a Points system and for those desiring to participate I should ask you to copy and paste this into a Text Document for easy keeping and remembering that way you won't have to continuesly locate this thread...

The points system will work like this -

    To Attain Points -

Replying to the CJ - 1 Point per post - spamming will not count however...

Owning Residential Property - 1 Point per tile will be awarded per Simulated Month... ... Your home will also count so your participation is encouraged...

Owning Industrial Property - 1 Point per tile + 0.2 Points per worker will be awarded per simulated month...

Owning Comercial Property - 2 Points per tile + 0.5 Points per worker will be awarded per simulated month...

Owning a Utility (Power Plant, Water Pumps, Trash, ect...) - 25 Points per month

Owning recreation - 2 Points per tile...

Contributing a Bat - Bats will depend on their importance, they must also be fairly realistic (coal plants MUST pollute, no single power plant to power an entire region, must have a realistic price, (not to high but not to low either...) and must have an advantage over SC4 plants... (for instance a coal plant is probably easily enough to power a large city tile...) ... Also extra points will be awarded should you contribute a  Bat I - or anyone requests...  But any Bat, even your own home, will contribute points

    Transportation Networks

Road in your name - 0.1 Points per tile and length of road will be awarded monthly.

Avenue in your name - 0.2 Points per tile and length of avenue will be awarded monthly.

Highway in your name - 0.5 Points per tile and length of Highway will be awarded monthly.

Interstate in your name - 1 Point per tile and length of Interstate will be awarded monthly.

If the transportation network is tolled and they're also owned by you, then you will also be awarded 0.2 points for every 50 cars that travel on it per month...

Rail - 0.1  Points Times number of tracks per tile ('s) and length of line will be awarded monthly.

El / Subway / GLR - 0.2 Points Times number of tracks per tile ('s) and length of line will be awarded monthly.

Monorail - 0.5 Points Times number of tracks per tile ('s) and length of line will be awarded monthly...

Rail Stop - 0.2 Points per tile Times number of tracks serviced + 0.2 Points per 50 passengers will be awarded monthly...

El / Subway / GLR Station / Mono Rail Station - 0.5 Points per tile Times number of tracks serviced + 0.5 Points per 50 passengers will be awarded monthly...

Bus Stop - 1 Point per tile times 1 Point per 30 passengers will be awarded monthly...

Ferry Stops - 1 point per tile + 1 point per 50 passengers will be awarded monthly...

Basically it works like this, If you purchase a rail line, or a segment of a line and that line has 4 tracks for 30 tiles lets say, it will equate to 12 monthly points and here's why -

One Tile of railroad = 2 tracks thus

    0.1 * 4 = 0.4 Points for 2 Tiles of Track

0.4 Points is now multiplied by the length or distance of the line... 30 tiles... which equals 12 Points...

You will only be awarded for providing the line, NOT the stations, the stations will have to be purchased seperately to attain points from them... You will still attain points for rail lines that pass THROUGH stations however... and station owners will also recieve points for the actual rail that passes through it aswell...

    Freight and Business

Freight Station - 0.2 Points per tile Times Number of tracks serviced + 0.1 Point per 10 freight trains will be awarded monthly...

Seaports - 0.2 Points per tile / harbor area Times Number of tracks serviced + 0.1 Point per 10 freight trains and 0.1 Point per 20 freight trucks...

Airports - 0.2  Points per tile / property area + 0.3 Points per tile for Hotels + 0.3 Points per 50 Passengers...

    ___________________________________________________________________

    Using Points

This is how you use points, There is NO standard purchasing per tile cost for zones as they can be diffenteriate greatly... For instance it will be alot cheaper to biuld a residential apartment complex near an industrial area than it would be to do so on beach front property... Also convinience to commercial property will also drive prices upward aswell... You will find out the prices when you either...

REQUEST: You see a spec of empty land you desire to start a subdivision or an office park and contact me, I will analyze the land and give you a points price ... or you see a business you'd like to take over and I'll give you their net worth, which will be based on their customers and employees in and give you a points price... You can also request to purchase and name a road for it's full or a partial length... Just know that a state road or Interstate will not lose it's number designation..

or you can wait for a

SALE: I or other members in this CJ can sell property to trade points within the system, just notify me of the purchases and your points will be updated...  Pictures will show the lot or area or transportation network for sale... I personally will hold a sale atleast once a week in the CJ to promote business and buyers... you will also get better deals should you wait for a sale instead of buying it outright.

Streets will cost 0.1 + Wealth Value Per Tile

Roads will cost 0.2 + Wealth Value Per Tile

Avenues will cost 0.5 + Wealth Value Per Tile

Rural Highways will cost 0.5 Points Per Tile + 0.2 Points per Exit / Entrance Ramp...

Highways (Ground or Elevated) will cost 0.7 Points per Tile + 0.2 Points per Exit / Entrance Ramp...

Interstates will cost 1 Point per tile + 0.3 Points per Exit / Entrance Ramp...

Rail lines will cost 0.2 Points per tile + 0.2 Points per Freight Train and 0.2 Points per 50 Passengers.

El / Subway / GLR lines will cost 0.5 Points per tile + 0.4 points Per 50 Passengers.

MonoRail lines will cost 1 Point per tile + 0.5 Points per 50 Passengers.

Tolls cost 5 Points per tile...

Bus Stops cost 0.5 Points per tile + 0.2 Points per 50 Passengers.

Train Stops will cost 0.8 Points per tile + 0.3 Points per 50 Passengers times number of tracks serviced.

EL / Subway / GLR Stops will cost 1 Point per tile + 0.5 Points per 50 Passengers times number of tracks serviced.

MonoRails will cost 1.5 Points per tile + 1 Point per 50 Passengers times number of tracks serviced.

Freight Stations will cost 1 Point per tile + 0.5 Points per 30 Freight Trains times number of tracks serviced.

Ferries will cost 2 Points per tile + 2 Points per 50 Passengers.

Airport and Seaports will work slightly differently as with these, you will also have to purchase land rights before you can biuld or use the territory... then you will also have to pay for a structure aswell...

Seaports will Cost 0.5 Points per tile for land rights + 1 Point per structure + 50 points per pier.

Airports will cost 1.5 Points per tile for land rights + 2 Points per structure + 50 points per runway.

    Recreation

Parks will cost 0.5 Points per tile.

Marina's will cost 5 Points per tile.

Beaches will cost 7 Points per tile.

Sports (except Tennis / Skate Park) will cost 10 Points per tile.

With that covered, I'll give you alittle overview - Per Month means per CJ month, and the CJ will be run on the slowest setting so a month shouldn't pass very fast...  When you purchase something, I will deduct points per REAL LIFE month... You can also set up purchase plans in which you can finance me a downpayment and I will hold whatever you desire to purchase without selling it for a real life 2 week period... This is alot to keep up with, especially for someone as busy as myself, so I am definately open to those who desire to help me run such a large project and will give addtional points... EVERYONE who contributed to this thread will begin with 50 Points! Remaining visitors who view the next thread will begin with 10 Points... I will award points on the beggining of every CJ Month, also if you purchase something on the 15th of a CJ month or later, to keep things from being confusing, I will award your points to you on the FOLLOWING CJ month... When you own something, it is yours to request to do whatever you wish to it... You can rename it, request a project, ect... The only thing you can't do is take away it's Interstate or Route number as the state and federal government supercede you... You CAN also combine points and perform a group purchase meaning it's apart of a groups property rather than an individual... In areas of heavy traffic you can benefit a bus system to earn points or request a tollway and even design its route and I will biuld it should you have the points for it. Also for subdivisions, Industrial and Business parks, you must send me a template of how you desire it to look before construction begins... ...Of COURSE although the CJ is interactive, interactivity is only optional and the city will still continue to grow with a storyline behind it as time moves forward with or without your contributions... I just thought I'd share this information to those interested...

Should you have any questions or concerns, please by all means post away...

That is all... and have a great day...

Critterman:  I promise to keep it interesting

2nerdy4u: The first post will be in by no later than tomorrow - sorry for the delays, I had to transport the region into this computer an in process, one of the cities corrupted so I had to rebiuld it... Ironically this was the city that the CJ begins in...

SaltandVinegar: Late or not, your input is greatly appreciated and you'll be awarded points...

Yoshiisland: I'll see if I can surprise you 4.gif

Benedict: I will maintain everyones Points and everyone who posts from the beggining of the actual CJ via a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet - From there I will use the program itself to add points as necessary... I'll determine the areas I'm weak at after the CJ begins and apply for help when necessary...
