Schulmanator:  Well that would be interesting...  I wonder how you could work that into Schulmania?

politicman:  Thanks for looking in and thanks for leaving a comment!

abcvs:  Not bad... for a Maxis fest.

Schulmanator:  Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards... kinda like parallell parking.

WackoJak:  Favourite CJ? 43.gif...  Well this was one of my very first cities of course but the improvements are coming slowly.

jacqulina:  I was playing my first ever city last night... (after the tutorials) man that city has been through some interesting phases...  18.gif

NMUSpidey:  "Sunny day... everythings A.O.K. ... friendly neighbours that where we meet...  can you tell me how to get..."

gabry85:  Your personal post is served.

abcvs:  You tried to get rid of a landfill with a volcano?  45.gif Gotta give you points for trying!

crazyyaya:  Well this is still very much the basic "Big City Tutorial" layout...  It would be interesting to see some other peoples tutorial cities... to see what they did with them.  As for the menus, that seems to be the only way you can show the transport views and education views etc...  when you minimise the menu the detail disappears.  I only show the menus if I want to show something about how the city is running.

If anyone wants to chuck one of their big city tutorial pics in here you are welcome... I would like to see them.   It would be interesting to see what other people did with that city tile.

Landfills almost NEVER go away! I was trying to completely wipe out pollution in my city (it's impossible, trust me) so I began dezoning my landfill. I sold all the garbage to my neighbors, even though for some reason I don't think there was even a landfill in the neighbor, and I issued super clean air ordinance. As the city slowly grew, however, I found it completely impossible to get rid orf pollution in a city the size of San Francisco only 2 Sq. Kilos.

Once I got bored with Big City Tutorial so I decided to unleash tons of disasters. Mwahahahahaha!!!!! Unfortunately I put the Mayor House and University on that tiny island and it took forever to get there... ugh... then when I tried to destroy it The mayor house wouldn't go away! It was on fire... and practically floating above water it was hit with meteors so much, etc.

BCT is a failed city now. And so is my 750,000 city. Total ancient history, fortunately, since I didn't like those cities that much after I started getting 20 minute load times.

PS this is my first post in this CJ, I think.

I've tried Timbuktu, Berlin, and London... and all of them failed! I also did 8 or so of my own regions, which I mostly deleted.

London actually succeeded... for a while. Due to playing Joetropolis for too long, though, I basically can't start a city without gridding everything, using tons of money, constantly terraforming over the water, and building random skyscrapers and having 150,000 or so jobs before the residential. None of my newer cities are doing well now, In My Opinion.

BTW, up til now I've said almost nothing about this actual CJ so: Good Luck!

Digs though regions folder... blows off thick layer of dust..

    *cough* *cough*

    bigcitytutoriallz9.jpg

here is all that is left of my big city tutorial, some old ruins. I had built it up long ago, and wrote about it for a school project, (my first CJ?) then obliterated it. (And added the crater upstream) When I started New Chicago, ruins were discovered where the city once was.

zelgadis:  Yup it was a real fixer upper.

gabry85:  My advice is free... implementing it may have its costs.

Joetropian1:  Landfills can be got rid of, you just need to be patient and give it time.

Schulmanator:  Berlin?  Never played that region.  Go on show us a pic... it can't be THAT bad.

Joetropian1:  Well eventually you find something that works for you...  hey if the grid works...

Leech10:  Brilliant!  Well you can't exactly call it BIG City Tutorial anymore...  that tile across the river which is all farms, is the one I built my first ever solo city on...  I have been playing it again  this week, man it is a mess.  It is actually a very steep bit of dirt to play on.

Hester:  Well unfortunately the volcano did not work, the landfill remained - they are completely lava proof.

    KingTitan:  Leeches?

Simtastico:  Well I like to chuck in a few RL pics everynow and then.  They actually come in handy when I have not had time to play the game.

Big city tutorial? Here it is!

I never stopped working on it. 9.gif Furthermore, I used the cheat to rename it "Caronia."

    caronia2dy0.jpg

It is now a bustling city of 330,000 sims.

    caronia1uc7.jpg

In fact, it's the location of Berengaria's primary subspace communications array. 4.gif

Schulmanator:  Lovely of course... but where is the roundabout that you cut of all other road access to, so the poor sims could only go around...  and around.... and around...  I have my sources and I know this to be true.

zelgadis:  Wow that looks really Carpathian...  pink rocks and everything.  The only thing that looks familiar is the shoreline and one of the diaganol roads along the shore.  Oh and I think everyone probably put a bridge there...  I did...  it kind of has "build a bridge here" sign there...

So has anyone else got any BCT pics to show...?  or do I have to go back to making my OWN updates again...  I thought I was on to something here, a "self up-dating" CJ...  18.gif

Yes I did notice that, I was was just trying to be sensitive and to not draw attention to your "bridge problem".   I know you find them irresistable.

Hmm maybe I could psyco-analyise that...

You are someone who strives to reach out and cross the great divide,  to bring together separated and marginilised communities to all live together in harmony, ebony and ivory, the cyanoticly covered cranials... those without proper access to quality hair products...!  a drawing closer of cities ripped asunder!

    Many cities!  One community!

Believe me, you don't want to see my FIRST city ever in SC4! No plugins, no site, nothing. Air pollution, water pollution, garbage, crime, fires... I have 3 pictures if you want to see. But you won't like it.

Great idea btw Craig! Can't wait for your own city.

And I have 5 bridges crossing the river, but there is nothing on the other side except some ruins and a couple farms...

    Indeed...

    For New Chicago:
One grid to rule them all! - Check. (Where grids could be built)
    Chiseled mud! - Check.
Rows of Maxis repitition! - The BATs had begun their advanced by that time... but Check.
    Sickly blue water! - Check
Piles of festering garbage, ripened by the noon day sun! - and Check. All in one city tile, named "dump." (Or something similar)

Where exactly are the other tutorials located? I think the getting started ones was on the peninsula over the big island, I actually have a city there...

I am told the Schulmanator has a mean habit , that of making the poor SIMS drive around and around and around endlessly...chuckling at their misery.  Imagine if you will what it must be like never to get home to your SIM wife and children..have dinner...etc,  And besides, how can you get fuel for your SIM car of you are endlessly driving round in circles?  Good you blew the lid off this terrible thing!

OK, this is a great idea, so here goes. I actually played the Timbuktu region after I had hand-terraformed and established my primary region, Ellis Valley. It probably looks a bit better than it would have if I had started there.

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It has an OK downtown, much of which is now spread along the freeway in a crescent shape. There is an arty district between the university and the freeway. The only major thing I did is to do some terraforming to allow for an airport to be built (I tend to feel sorry for the sims, so rarely demolish zones that I've already built).

And yes, I do want V to show his version!

Show the pictures, show the pictures!!!!!

    We must see!!!!!

Great Big cities, mine always end up growing to about 31,400-something and then the game crashed. Finally I hadto start Joetropolis... which became 400,000... and after the super demand mod, 752,000... on a medium tile.

Voulpioutis, post them, post them, post them!!!!!

Schulmanator, making Sims endlessly drive will make REALLY bad getting-to-work commute LOL, but it is fun.

Benedict, no bridges????? It's perfect for one, though!!!!! Oh well, I only put three or so.

As for any pictures I have, none. I didn't even read the boringer-than-boring manual and found out about the camera before I jumped into the game and went totally bankrupt and failing a trillion billion dozen times. By then my game had crashed about 3 times.

Brilliant! A self udating CJ... now all I need to do is work out how to get it to reply to itself! Then I can sit back, relax and bask in my eternal glory.

Seriously... Thanks to everyone who has posted their pictures... I am willing for more, it is facinating to see what everyone did with their early cities.
