Look Who's Arrived!

Hello, I'm Thomasine Heiberg. I won't tell you my real name for privacy reasons (it's best not to), but I do like Jens Juel paintings. Oh, and I'm just over 18, but I know well about the BBFC ratings a lot (I have a PDF about the guidelines), so this might be rated about 12A?

I'm also non-religious, and I have a Maths GCSE qualification. And it wasn't long since I started playing SimCity 4, but now I seen lots of new stuff for the game coming out. SimCity 4, as updated as Windows™ and the Sims 2™, that is!

It began in March this year, when I finally bit the dust on Civilization 3 forever, having being so bored with not being able to see the minute detail of the city. A few days later, while I was installing Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005 on a PC that I made myself using mostly old Dell components (note to self: great recycling), I popped into the PC World store and asked a shop assistant about city building games while considering Windows Vista Ultimate. This assistant recommended me a few games, including City Life, and SimCity 4 Deluxe itself. I went for both.

Once I installed the two games (took some time but well worth it), I found out in a few hours that it was harder to succeed as a mayor in SimCity 4, so I decided to check out some sites for cheats, tips and hidden stuff. After registering my copy on simcity.ea.com, I checked out the fan site directory for some independent and expert advice. You were ranked at the top of the list, so I thought of your site run by a person who knows everything about SimCity 4. After wondering around, I found the cheats in one of your threads in about twenty minutes, and went back to the game with better confidence in running for mayor.

I bumped into a person, a 17-year old girl on one sunny day in England and told me that she was in real trouble with another website in which her user name was... Constantine? Whatever the name was, she told me that she got tired of SimCity 4, leading me to think that the SimCity 4 craze was over and I wasted around £15 on a white elephant! That was later proved wrong. Moments later she said that there was some sort of project she stopped working on for unknown reasons, and wanted me to take over. All I did was ask for her MSN address for later reference.

So what followed was the discovery of the ability to customise the game, change the animals and another add-on called the Network Add-on Modd one night on the internet. I realised that SimCity 4 was actually alive and well, so I asked my new acquaintance on MSN to send me the file.

So on the next morning, this girl not only sent me the project file, she sent me a whole copy of one of her hard drives (It was virus-checked)! So I copied what's inside to my external hard drive (400GB), and merged the My Documents folder (In my case, Aphrodite folder) to that drive.

When I started the game, there was so many new stuff in-game, and I found it much easier to run. My city's highways are entirely of tarmac, and there was three new networks called the Rural Highway, Intercity Motorway and GLR. I don't know what GLR stood for, but it was certainly not the old BBC Greater London Radio (Later BBC LDN and latterly BBC London) on 94.9FM!

If you mean that I could create custom buildings for the game with gmax, I have two versions of 3Ds Max installed: 7 and 9. Autodesk say that are similar to gmax 1.2 by appearance but have more features. I use version seven for general modelling, and impressing my friends with those effects, but I use version 9 to experiment on Sims 2 clothing.

As for City Life, it was great too, and it inspired me to splash out on the Sims 2 and all of its extensions. Well, it was good, except for the Llamas; I don't know what are those kind of animals.

And now with a hard drive full of SimCity stuff from... Constantine? (I'm I thinking of the King of the Byzantine era or what?), I have interest in joining a BAT team. And since I now like this site, perhaps maybe joining a group to preserve the site's history could be of interest to me.

And to prove I'm great at faking real life physics in 3D, take a look at this picture of a few Danish and Greek banknotes on a table:

Very grateful for your help: you're experts for my favourite game aren't you?

Dirk: come and say hello to me please.

~~ Signed,  Mrs. Heiberg

PS: I just heard of a member called Jacky. Who is she?

Cool to see a real 3dsmax pro signing up to Simtropolis , and i must say, that if  you didn't tell us those notes were a rendering and not a picture  i would  have thought it was a picture!!

I use 3ds too( v7), i'm not exactly pro at it, but i guess my skills should do for sc42.gif

    nearcompletebackside.jpg

here's something i've been working on, i reckon this is like my 55th  building ( or BAT as custom buildings for sim city 4 are called)

    GLR:

Ground Light Rail, it's sort of like a tram system or even light rail suburban rail system.1.gif

Heh! I thought GLR was for a local BBC Radio station at one time!

And those notes were really renderings! You can't find a revision of the Series 1972a 50 Kroner note in real life. If you can notice, I've even changed the watermark.

I am actually good at banknotes. You see, you can tell how much it has changed. No more of those normal paper. Almost all of them in the world are special paper or plastic (like Romania).

By the way, scale in  sim city 4 is really weird, it's all over the place, for instance a sim is 3,5 to 4 meters high, so doors need to be arround that  a step is 0,2metres . And if you make a really high poly model, it doesn't matter too much in sim city, so by all means just go crazy with detail if you want, as the renders in sc4 are not actually proper 3d, they're sorta just semi-3d images. So polygon count is not something you need to worry too much about.1.gif

You've met Constantina?  Have you also met Anthens2004?

Constantina is also coincidentally a good person to talk to about currency.  She's made a few threads about it before.

She also has a similar interest in Sim City and 3ds max.  And your personalities, are so similar!  You'll get along very well.

And you just happened to bump into her one day in real life and meet.  It was meant to be.

Good luck on continuing her highway modd.  Don't be intimidated by the complexities of modding, I'm sure you'll do exactly as well on the modd as Constantina did.

Welcome! It's surprising that you've actually met Constantina. Well, I could walk to Yoman3's and DarkJedi's houses, but that's just me. Looking at those bills, I am pretty hopeful now. Wait Ryberg-Heiberg? Are you related..?

    Happens quite frequently, actually.

Believe it or not, just a few days ago, I ran into another user from here myself named MrTitanic.

Was kind of freaky, but he seemed like a nice enough fellow - though a bit goofy. Still, I might let him take over my city journals.

This message was created before the upgrade:

Ha ha ha! I never thought I'd hit the jackpot of a reliable SimCity 4 fan site before! 4.gif

Well, Glenni, I actually use imperial measurements. Most rooms should be 9 feet high, with another foot between for all the wiring, piping and some other thing. The doors should be 2 to 3 feet wide, double for double doors, and the staircases must be ≤ 42°.

It's not the fault of the architects: Sims haven't been taught how to live in our houses!

Oh, hello to Cjah, another great member who's done something for the site (see his signature). You just had my mind freshened up. That was in fact the girl I was talking about!

And hello to homeandaway. I see you might be a fan of a TV show, right? Wait a minute: you got a city journal for Rangoon, Myanmar? If so, sounds interesting to me. The real Rangoon isn't up to scratch recently: The Times told me that Myanmar has relocated its capital... which is banned to ordinary members of the public!

And now I just spotted a leader of a BAT team at last! This site is literally a madhouse already with so many members. As a guest, I've seen the total creep up every day. It might not be long to the 200,000 member milestone! There's millions of members in the SimCity site, but nearly all of them aren't using the BBS regularly, with others paying attention solely to SimCityScape and downloads. And what a shame that I couldn't connect to that from Deluxe Edition.

Oh, and here's your image as I promised...

    Image not loaded yet...

Jason, I met Tina, but I don't know Athens2004 (there wasn't a Anthens2004 in the user search). But well, she's Greek; I'm the Dane, and either way currency collecting is a huge multi-million dollar hobby, covering all locations worldwide.

You see, you buy crisp uncirculated notes (of almost any country that has a slow or inverse inflation rate) from a travel agent (they are almost inclined to do so: after all, they are trained to be friendly!), and then, you trade those to any good banknote dealer with a certainty of a reasonable profit. You see, new crisp notes are actually worth more in the banknote collecting market, even if they are in circulation in that country. Meanwhile, Seems a cross-section of members agree with Jason!

Hi GingerBlokey! I'm wondering if your avatar/signature is actually a part of a important document? And I've been confused about rumours too.

One moment Tina said she would quit and the next moment she wouldn't (just before my bedtime). It drove me a bit around the bend so I told her by MSN to make her mind up while I slept (my MSN is thomasineheiberg@hotmail.co.uk: not to be used for e-mail please.).

Meanwhile, it is worth distinguishing the differences between me and Tina: one of them is that she may be smart at HTML coding, But I'm terrible at that. However, I use some specialist application like SharePoint or Dreamweaver to create pages. That's how I overcome that problem! She has trouble understanding that sometimes you have to make assumptions in mathematics. But I don't.

On the weather, however, sounds fine, but expect putrid conditions for Ten Tors in 95%, no, 75% of all cases. (hah, I'm not doing it after all! Indian Takeaway planned for that day...)

... but just as I was about to say how less strict the dress code is in modern life, now Tina's finally made her mind up here; that's very shocking and sad.

Okay, having said that a few paragraphs before, the party may be virtually over and it's wise to say farewell to Tina and outline my future plans. But a few more words: Assume me as a female: Thomasine Heiberg, from that Jens Juel painting... brought to life. But remember, there's no superman/woman who could, well... do everything for you.

    Well, thanks for the introduction.

Sorry to say that this is one clone I lost my patience with, especially when it comes to inviting the same person to join BLaM twice! As a result neither clone will stay in the team, so I must ask Constantina to remove the BLaM name from their signature here, and not to upload any more material using the BLaM name.

You may ask how do I know this is the same person. Simple ... as the administrator and owner of SimCities I can track IP addresses. If these people only met in passing then they must have formed a very strong bond to actually log on from exactly the same IP address!

Anyway, that's all I have to say on the subject, but I'm sure some other people will add their own 5 cents! lol
