The senators who introduced the bill were immediately arrested after it passed...no, just kidding.

but don't we have to get our priorities straight? why waste time persecuting the people wasting government resources (because persecuting people for wasting government time and resources is just stupid because it ends up wasting more resources), we should just tell the people making bomb jokes at the airport and doing these annoying things to just shut up and go hide in their basements or something and go hunt down the real terrorists.

"mis-use of government resources" is already something that government employees can be fired for.  That includes accessing sites like this one.  and we have lots of people who registered using a .gov email address, putting their jobs at risk.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Ooo, mandatory self regulation. Like this'll fix anything. They don't have to follow it. They're the government, remember? There's nobody above them to make them follow it.

hehe, reminds me of X ineffeciencies... anytoot thats true in the fact that they waste more money enforcing this compared to allocating the resources to something of real value ^^.

This law is going to be more about screwing with innocent people than it is about government agencies policing themselves

Talk to any urban photographer about what its like to take pictures in our "post 9/11 world"

Up next a Senate bill that the Sun will from now on revolve around the Earth. Government is the same everywhere. Two weeks ago here in Canada the House of Commons bilingual committee had the head of Hockey Canada before them asking him why they picked Shane Doane as captain for Team Canada when Doane allegedly made an anti-french comment to an official two years ago! Do they have nothing better to do?

I agree that the main target should be the government itself. Representatives in the House often earmark projects from their respective districts to appeal to their constituents. Bill Clinton during his second term, before Congress stripped him of the line item veto, struck many ridiculous appropriations.

Earmarks include, but aren't limited to:

- $286,000 for research to enhance the flavor of roasted peanuts

- $250,000 for pickle research;

- $500,000 for continuation of a study of livestock pollution (cow dung) at Tarteton State University.

Though, my personal "favorite" was the $320 million "bridge to nowhere" - the one that connected two islands of the Alaskan archipelago so that the 50 residents of the Island of Gravina wouldn't have to pay $6 for the 15-30 minute ferry ride to Ketchikan (Ketchikan might actually not be part of the archipelago, it might be part of the Alaskan mainland. I don't know much about Alaskan geography. The bridge is nonetheless ludicrous.).

Talk about some great side entertainment here indeed.

Governments like anyone else can waste resources and time

even New Zealand's Fiscal Responsibilty Act 1994 to minimise this "wastage" can run afoul of governments wasting fiscal resources in god knows where - like $30,000 on a tiolet seat...

People responsible for creating such legislation should be required to pay for the full implementation of it.

One of the biggest problems we have is Parliamentary immunity.  Those idiots can do anything and not have to do the time for their crime as long as they do it in the House.
