Well, I guess its been there long enough now:

Jones, while Smith had had "had had", had had "had".  "Had had" had had the master's approval.

No one said it was one sentence, orly that it had to be punctuated.

ahh I got the last part sort of right...what's even scarier is that I actually sort of understand what's going on in the sentence.

I share your pet peeve. I can understand minor mistakes and some spelling mistakes (especially because I can't spell for my life. Who knew that collaspe had two L's in it? Not me.) from native english speakers (such as spelling "definetly" wrong as I do half the time) but gross mispunctuation and unorganized sentences just annoys me. BTW, I found a missing colon, an "and" where an "or" should be and a slightly awkward sounding sentence in your post. I'm good at finding other's grammar mistakes. 4.gif

Ok, that also annoys me -- my fingers never seem to work the way I tell them to... or did I just think too much about spelling it correctly? Regardless, I did say that I can't spell.

[Edit:] I edited to correct "annoy" and I spelled it wrong again.

One of the real surprises is the lack of a double L in canceled.

Oh my gosh I didn't even know how to spell that until a few weeks ago...I couldn't believe it only had one l...I also make this typo a lot: ahve instead of have.  I don't know why, I just do and it makes me mad 15.gif  Lol.

Dyslexia takes a lot of work to overcome.  Keep working on it.

It can be spelled both ways, like grey-gray. Canceled-cancelled.

I agree with all of you. I hate trying to find out what people mean. But I'm okay with some very occasional mistakes. We are humans. We make mistakes.

Then there are homonyms.  How do you feel about the multiple uses of the word peer.  E.g.

Can the peer peer down the pier?

Inability to spell is, at least in some cases, related to the above. As for dyslexia or dysgraphia, similar searches for helpful resources will turn up plenty of results - not to mention success stories from such people as Whoopi Goldberg. Though I have never looked into the matter myself, I wouldn't be surprised if most of these resources were free, eliminating any possible counter-argument based on wealth.

i myself have severe dyslexia. (in case ya havent noticed, i dont capitalize, that just plain laziness i know, but at least i do use punctuation correctly)

the way i overcome my dyslexia is...reading Reading and READING. the more i read the better it seems to be. if i dont read a book for say 3 months then it gets pretty damn bad.

my twin brother on the other hand is completely color blind, se he has trouble just seeing the text.

but yeah the only thing is, i dont see the point in capitalizing on a public forum. if your a ***** to a game and you go to a forum to ask for help, then you should have the courtesy to at least spell properly and use the right puncuation.

Dyslexia is an interesting phenomenon. Personally, I am a southpaw... left-handed for those who don't know the term. I was also dyslexic as a child, but I overcame it with mental determination. My problem was learning how to write a "N", "b", "d", "3", "E", "5" and "s/S". Notice how most of them are isometric. But I learned (by myself, my teachers were useless) that there are tricks to doing them correctly, and as stated above, I read A LOT.

Anyhow, for those who have problems, I just memorized that a lower case "b" faces the same direction as an upper case "B", "3" is left, "E" is right, so on an so forth. I know it is more difficult for those with severe dyslexia and I don't pretend to know everything. But it helped me. I also think that being dyslexic helped me to be a good speller. I seldom have problems with spelling words since I read all the time and came to understand the idiosyncrasies of the English language.

Funny about the spelling/dyslexia thing you mention, Barbarossa. My ex was dyslexic...she could win any spelling bee, but writing the word correctly was another story.

It's ok if the user is from other countries besides the US/Canada/Britain...etc., I can understand that (I wouldn't last a minute in a French forum). Also, instant messenging (ST chat, AIM, Yahoo, MSN messenger) requires fast typing, so in those instances I really don't care about punctuation, but these are the Simtropolis forums. It's far from quick (there's lag), so please at least attempt to consider English rules when you're typing! I think it's even an ST rule...

I needed to get this off my chest. Please discuss this pet peeve of mine.

    "Becuz i want 2 c wat u guys tink."

P.S. By the way, re-reading what I just wrote it also seems I've just broken a few grammar rules. Please discuss how I am a hypocrite as well.

    Dearest Eddie,

I could shred your post fixing all the grammatical errors 4.gif.

Edit: I mean that in a nice, comical (as a joke per se), non-harmless way 9.gif

Personally, it doesn't bother me too much if people forget to capitalize or skip a few punctuation marks; however, it does bother me when a post is completely shredded, or an improper spelling and capitalization is used to "make it cool."

In conclusion, just try to make sense (especially if English is your strongest language).

Is there a particular reason why punctuation is spelled wrong in the forum title? I found it humorous.

Oh, I'm sure the spelling in the title was intentional - a jab at the practices it's about.
