Love the pic above, except for the small 1x1 residential lots in the middle of a bunch of 5-30 story buildings... I wouldn't want to live there! 4.gif

The sunset lighting looks great, though.

I think hotdogs just won the thread, although I really like UncleS's picture too.

shinkansen1, if I have the right building in mind that you refer to, that's one of prepo's magnificent creations (one of my favourite all-time artists on the STEX).

Great pictures, everyone! I love the bridge--and the on/off-ramps--and that city view is gorgeous.

I wish there were some way to have properly rounded streets, though, and the lots to line them.

That bridge looks nice, but realise that it is physically impossible. the lateral force on those two vertical poles would definitely not be possible to cope with. I would suggest tieing the cable that spans between each pole to the ground behind the poles. that would make it physically possible.

Yeah, I mentioned in the first post that I forgot to stay the bridge....it's quite a strange angle to stay it at too....not much land where it needs to be.

I always kind of felt that making anything other than a grid in Sim City was akin to trying to draw a circle in MSPaint...it always kind of had an aliased look to it. The region view of the final result always looked nice, but it got annoying trying to reconcile all of those intersections and awkward turns. I hope SC5 takes a note from City Life in that regard.

But I digress. Here is my offering.

Phoenix in particular is pretty much consistently a grid, even in central areas. Even the downtown of Phoenix follows the same ol' "boring" orthogonal grid layout. Pretty much the only deviation from the grid is wherever there is a natural obstruction, like a mountain.

Is it possible to have closely spaced skyscrapers on a diagonal road/street/1wayRoad/avenue?

I have a city with a few diagonal 1wayRoads downtown, but they're too few to have a major impact on skyscraper construction, and also, they have an industrial zone between them, and I haven't seen any industrial skyscrapers yet.

I haven't played this city in a while, but it was my first deliberate attempt to go anti-grid.

I love grid but try to avoid it when doing residential areas. I adore symmetry in my cities so that's why I like grid, but I also use a lot of diagonal roads/avenue, have a look
