The Detroit speech was a few months earlier and follows the same, "I have a dream" format. Also, the I Have a Dream section of the Washington speech was not planned. Near the end he departed from his planned speech and added a I have a dream section, some of which was improvised and some of which was the same as the Detroit speech.

Obviously the DC speech is a a tremendous moment in American history and the Detroit speech is one of many great speeches he made, but the I Have a Dream format was developed for Detroit and the DC speech was written without a I Have a Dream section.

Amazing stuff guys! Wow! I LOVE the 1001 Woodward building.

I've never been more then a casual fan of SimCity, but in the last week I"ve started working on building my hometown of Holland, MI. I don't suppose you guys take requests?

    Thanks guys :)

Yeah we don't take requests. You'd think we'd have done more buildings throughout the state by now, but since we live in south east michigan (except for Todd anyway) and because there are so many buildings there to choose from that's where almost all of them have come from. So it's not very likely that we'll ever do anything from Holland, but who knows. :)

I still hope/dream for the day I see a Grand Rapids building done, despite the lot size issues cited in the past. A little creative license to make them fit on SC4 lots wouldn't bother me any ;D

Wow!!! You guys have done TREMENDOUS work here, I am absolutely amazed at how great these buildings look. I am from Detroit, have been a long-time Sim City fan (since the original DOS version), and can't wait to use all these Detroit buildings. Please let me know when the Brewster-Douglass projects are finished, they are my favorite buildings in the city. I like them so much that I feature them in the logo for my new house music record label Groove Hustler:

    Groove_Hustler_Detroit.jpg

Once again, you guys have done an AWESOME job with all of the buildings, keep up the great work!

Hmm, a fellow Michiganian who does House music work? I'm gonna have to poke around and find your soundcloud methinks. Edit: I can't find a soundcloud or a facebook, just a website. I has a sad.

    [belated] thank you. :)

Those projects have been in my hands for a long time now. In order to do the lot right, custom ground textures will need to be made and I never got to making them.

I've given up hope on the Hudson's department store project by Wolverine (last update March 2011), but why not try to focus things common to the Michigan landscape? The one thing I noticed in Michigan was lots of Dairy Queen stores, but unlike the run-down red-roofed Brazier stores in Texas, all were seasonal walk-ups, and not a single "DQ" in sight.

And a gift! I found the old project list from BarrySandersProject.com.

ahhhh, I remember that, lol. That was the first incarnation of the BSP, which nofunk and I inherited. I think it's pretty telling that even after all these years, out of that entire list, we haven't done a single one, except for the Penobscot Building which if it was released might be one of the longest WIPs in SC4 history, lol

I can absolutely guarantee you that I will never BAT a Dairy Queen, ever, lol. And I don't want to speak for nofunk but I can say with a strong degree of confidence that in the unlikely event that he would even do an ice cream parlor, there are several ice cream parlors that he would do before doing a Dairy Queen.

If you want to know what kinds of BATs we will be doing in the future, you can just look at what we've already done because it will be along the same lines, and I'm sorry to crush your dreams, but we've never done any big box stores or Dairy Queens. :P

I figured that most of the things on the list would never, ever get done. I know I've made a list of BATs I've proposed but never got around to. Sad that today's BAT supply doesn't seem as vibrant as seven years ago (at least, that's how it seems to me). At least today's look better.

The Dairy Queen thing I don't have a particular attachment for, but I figured "hey, it's Michigan, looks easy, and can probably tide people over".

SimCity 4 is just getting older, and the franchise is going nowhere, at least, nowhere good.

Yeah, the BSP list of the past does NOT represent current trends of today. No stadiums, no chains, very little overall.

That being said, if you come up with a decent looking model for any of those, you probably could publish under the BSP label, but I'm not sure.

I can easily figure in my mind Michelangelo being told from a street thug about what he should paint...oh well, can't say wheter it's amusing or disconcerting - i can only issue a disconcerted laugh.

Speaking on the behalf of the author on his own thread, and more than likely without his agreement or permission (second statement of the post i quoted), makes for a very fitting conclusion to the post, an icing to the cake, i'd say.

I noticed had that there appeared to be a guest BAT (bigskelding) so I wasn't sure if one could get permission to publish the under BSP label or not (hence, the "not sure"--plus some of the first generation BSP models--like the Borders Books & Music, are good but look a bit dated today). I wasn't "speaking on behalf" of anybody--don't try to twist my words.

On the off-chance that anyone wants to nominate the BSP for favorite team:

    1. Think of a random user name that you don't plan on nominating for anything. We don't have a team account but if you use our individual names you won't be able to enter them again afterwards, so use some random name instead.

    2. Make a note in the "Why do you think they should win this award" box that this is for the BSP.

    3. Finish filling out the "Why do you think they should win this award" box, and continue with your nomination as usual.

Apologies for the low BSP output this year. The only consolation is that we delayed our projects because we have big (but also secret ;) ) plans for 2013 and it's been taking a while to get everything together. :D

Looks like it will be a demanding model, although I have no doubts that you'll be all over it.

Thank you for deciding to make that model, I hate where Detroit is going. There destroying buildings for some damn parking lot, how stupid and why not make a parking garage. :(

Because of Detroits failure to have there historical buildings it makes be want to join BSP. :)

:O  The whole Detroit downtown has been mostly reduced to parking lots, and they're demolishing something else?! I doubt even in the weekdays they're all that full.

The City Hall of Detroit should keep old buildings, it's an historical building, even if they are abandoned. Destroying that building for parkings lots, it hurts my heart ...

Great decision, immortalized this building if he's condemned

So rumor has it the owner of the 108-year-old Charlevoix Hotel near Grand Circus Park will be applying for a demolition permit soon to turn the site into more surface parking.

Because the area clearly needs more surface parking...

    PpOCZns.jpg

So I guess I have a new Detroit BAT to start working on!

    bP0Z7r4.jpg

Acck! Poor Detroit! Once buildings like the Charlevoix are gone, you can never get them back. It's sad to see how much surface parking there is already around it in what was obviously, at one time, a very desirable part of the city. Looking at that sea of parking (which looks like it's hardly even used), it's hard to imagine undoing the damage that was done, but it's possible. Urban renewal and the flight to the suburbs never got nearly as bad in Canada, but I have seen shots of Downtown Toronto in the lates 70s and early 80s and it actually looked similar! The number of vacant lots was staggering, but today they've almost all been replaced with condos. I don't know how you get that started, but getting residents seems to be key. In an era of business parks, most companies won't locate Downtown anymore for prestige. They will still come Downtown though to be near people, both customers and potential employees. It's going to take decades to reverse the madness that has been done to many of America's cities, but I guess there's always hope.

In a strange twist, I notice from the Bing aerial shot that since so much of that area is parking and since you've already batted the Park Avenue Building next door, if you bat the Charlveoix, you'll have recreated the whole block in SC4.

I don't post often (like ever), but this topic caught my attention. While it is horrible that many of these great historic Detroit buildings are being torn down, it is sometimes a necessity. This and many other old buildings (looking at you Wurlitzer Building) are literally crumbling into the streets. There are covered walkways on some streets because of falling materials. I avoid certain sidewalks because I don't want to get hit in the head with decorative stonework. A parking lot might not be sexy or super useful, but in the case of these beyond repair situations, the only option. Again, I hate to see beautiful buildings destroyed, but how long can we endanger pedestrians while playing the development waiting game?

I look forward to posting here more often!
