Well Frogface...I saw many CJ threads, but yours is ***** the first I went from A to Z !!!!

DEFINITELY OUTSTANDING !!

From the first page I knew that will be something. Because already on the first page of that masterpiece presentation you shown that you feel the spirit of the Middle East Culture and that you know how to arrange the city. And how it grows. I like everything that makes your region:

1) The presentation overall - background story, maps, screenshot comments, graphic method of hilighting important events in the Emirate.

2) The huge work you put into arrange details in so many cities - it is really visible.

3) Choice of buildings - all but some of them are perfect in mideastern city.

4) Arrangement and solutions of the road network - every single street has the reason. Every avenue plays an important role in the city.  3 level crossings smoothly solved. Amazing.

5) Airports - you place a lot of them, I see you must like aviation, just like me. But you really do know how the airport look like. All are realistic - no 747 cluttered somewhere among the endless terminals with one runway with no taxiways 4.gif

6) City layouts - very realistic and actual as in arabian country. I have been to Egipt, so I know how their cities are arranged. As I said, you feel that spirit.

7) I see you was inspired by Dubai, great reflection of it's characteristic solutions, a specially my favourite Sheikh al Zahed Road  (whatever the correct spelling is) just a palm island is missing 4.gif

Of course, your cities have some dawnfalls, but they are so little in comparison with a magnificence of your master work, that they don't really matter. I mean the different textures of road coming toward tunnels and the tunnel entrances, but this is really the detail.  Maybe a bit too many small airports, I am just not sure if the aviation is so common in that part of the world, but as they are, they are really good.

As a summary, YOU ARE THE ONE TO LEARN FROM HOW TO MAKE CITIES. And how to make a professional CJ. Let me please draw the inspiration from your presentation to build my regions. Don't worry, I will not copy, I have my own style. I will just put your gorgeous work as the standard to chase.

If there was a contest for the best CJ and the best region, I would definitely vote for yours.

Kind regards

chavez

    OrdinarySC4Fan:Thanks for the comments

KingTitan:Thanks, I thought i'd write something to give a bit of background detail.

    Amerikaner:Thanks!

panthersimcity4:lol, i'll let you off this time 3.gif glad you liked the map.

penguin007:Thanks, also glad you enjoyed the map 2.gif

bokrif:Thanks, good questions, the title of Emir like most monarchies passes down through the son, though it does make me wonder what would happen if there was no son, a queen maybe? 3.gif the Khaled region is much more conservative because it is much more isolated, khobaris are much more liberal having been a trading port for centuries while this region has been landlocked and generally less contact with the outside world until today.

Also while the Emirate might have less stability the cities and oil producing regions are usually considered to be safe areas for investment, you won't see much western investment in a much more rural region which is more instable. usually the benefits outweigh the dangers 2.gif

also education is a good question, in the main cities : Abha, Khobar, Khaled City I think you can expect a good standard, the Emirate has been wanting to increase its investment in education as one of its future resources but I think as in most countries its more lacking in rural areas. Its a key area  I think the coutnry wants to improve on. 2.gif

anyway, always a pleasure to answer questions, that must be one of my longest replies 3.gif

Khaled City seems to mix the styles of many middle eastern citys. It reminds me of Dubai And manamah at the same time.

whoa, all those homes are almost hypnotic... idk if the royal palace should be so close to an airport; that could be a big security risk. oh well, it doesn't really matter, it is still an awesome update!

Great pics. Those zoomed out overview shots are really neat. Khaled has like a billion avenues! Especially in those suburbs. I didn't realize how obsessed Khaledians (sp??) love their cars. haha. What's that huge complext just to the top left (2nd last pic) of the diplomatic quarter? Its huge!!

Thank you for the long reply. You answered a lot of question. And you seem to be very aware of the middle east, and also Khaled is different from the other states. My next question is, how big threat is the religious fundamentalism in Khaled?

and by the way your new update looks good, how does the city look like from the space? 4.gif

Good ol' Liberty Islands! Someday, I'll repost my old CJ.

    MEBslum2-1.jpg

    MEBslum1.jpg

    Unedited version

Sorry for the short update but just showing the latest MEB bats. These are low wealth slums are for more undeveloped cities, I made them specifically for the the less developed rural regions of Khaled (and maybe another CJ i'm planning 2.gif ) , but I think they will fit into many other kinds of cities.

nazaguy:Thanks, I based the city set buildings off some buildings in Manama so I can see the relation 3.gif

Dsrwhat316:Thanks, the airport is strictly an airbase, the military is also stationed there so on the contrary its one of the safest places in the city 3.gif

    suplado!:Thanks!

    ajay_law:thanks, glad you liked it

    cleaner475:Thanks!

panthersimcity4:Thanks, the street tree mod is made by jeronij and is on SC4Ds exchange

Za:Thanks, it'd be good to see another one again!

Giligone:Thanks, yes tons of avenues but all needed to keep the traffic going, Khaledis love their cars and its quite car dependant, unfortunately this means there's not much alternative transport 14.gif the large complex I think you mean is a university, Khaled city was quite a challenge though, i'm not used to building on a large scale like that 3.gif

ilikehotdogsalot:Thanks! that would be goo,d Khaled is on the lookout for more countries to have diplomatic relations, i'll be doing an update on the quarter next 3.gif

    penguin007:Thanks!

skyscraper:Yes, glad you noticed its quite similar in layout ! 2.gif

bokrif: Thanks, I like to keep updated, its a region I find interesting so I'm thinking to study about the Middle east at university 3.gif sadly fundamentalism is a problem mainly in the rural areas, but as more people move to the cities in search of work it increases in the urban areas too. also there are some other rebel or anti government movements active in the country.

texanpride786:Thanks, the palace is near the base mainly for security, but i'm sure there is a night curfew there so the Emir can get a good night's sleep 2.gif Dubai is also pretty cool, I will be passing through there in a few days 44.gif

    Mike the Mayor:Thanks!

Whoa. The first shot was probably the best shot I've ever seen of SC4. The Khobari update was pure awesome too, but the palace seemed a bit... unrealistic.

HAHA so nice my friend, I LOVE coming to this CJ because even if I have already seen it I always enjoy just looking at the pictures and finding things that I had not noticed before. Your attention to detail is so great and that is what I love about this CJ. But is Khaled Shi'a or Sunni? I have always wondered that and you may have answered that but I just was not paying attention 9.gif

Nice little rural area. What crops are they growing? Great work on Khaled City. Sometimes a challenge is just what we need to expand our repertoir of city buildingness. At least I find that to be the case. Looking forward to more! 9.gif
