Does anyone have an effective way around getting high traffic noise rating in their downtown areas?

Well, high traffic noise basically means that there's high traffic in the area. So the short answer would be too lower traffic in the area. If you have streets, upgrade them to roads, and if you have roads, upgrade them to either one-way roads or avenues, depending on the space provided. The carpool ordinance can also lower traffic.

Mass Transit...the use of this will eliminate some of the cars also on the streets...tree and or parks...speacially the flower parks (or any that soak up a lot of pollution) help

if your willing to use radical methods there are many super parks and/or mods and modded building that will reduce pollution a bit more , some that even eliminate it altogether, depends what your willing to do personelly to eliminate the pollution.

Ralphealninja's Radical ordinace version 2 in the modds and and download section, very radical and includes many other very radical mods as well...4.gif

I build, teardown, and rebuild all the time so I can get my neighborhoods to look as unique as possible. One of thie things I do is go to the traffic congestion screen and rebuild and rezone my city so commercial areas can take advantage of high traffic areas while I move the sensitive residentials away. The result for me is a lot of main streets with commercial and big low to medium wealth residential buildings with lons of side branches that have low density residential and big medium to high wealth buildings with an occasional branch that's an industrial park. The traffic fom sims going to industrial jobs is harnessed to increase traffic flow in front of the commercial buildings which increased their # of customers rating.

Thank you all. The only thing i can do (since i've done MT, ordinances, et cetera) is to make the streets one way. I hope it doesn't jam up other stuff! I will probably re-lay my subways as well so that they follow the exact same routes as my streets. My current strategy with subways is to place them next to the large buildings so the bulk of the traffic will be directed underground. My subway routes must be longer than the driven route 15.gif how stoopd.

baertooth, I like your method of using the congestion map to rezone your cities.  I'm going to start doing that.  There's nothing more annoying than seeing a large comercial building with low customers.

Uh.....everyone's suggested to turn all your streets 'n roads into avenues.....here's a problem. Most of my traffic noise occurs ON the avenues. I mean, I got Cobb's Altura Tower grown in my downtown area (after much hard work 'n patience, I got that buildin', btw) and every sim-month or so, it always turns grey from traffic noise, then goes back again! And it's located right along an avenue diagonal from a hospital and QUITE the metropolitan Downtown area, full of commercial offices towerin' to the sky! But seriously, traffic noise on the avenues when everyone replaces with them? Uh....help!

Put plenty of mass transit like bus stop to reduce traffic noise and pollution. City ordinance to give incentive for using mass transit. Car pooling maybe (I read somewhere it doesn't contribute to reduce car actually, is it true?).

    Regards,

    Arto.

The grammar Nazi strikes.  Polling means counting.  Did you intend to say pooling?

Intensive is an adjective.  Did you really want a noun?  Incentive?

Well, I think his English is just fine for a secondary language.

You might want to consider downloading some of the highway noise reduction walls on the STEX. I think they reduce noise pollution, but I have had no desire for them, and therefore, can not tell you for sure. Search for them and maybe they'll provide you what you're looking for.

Wel, I must say that the advice I found here was pretty useful.....but I emphasize "was." Believe it or not, I have a whole area that WAS high-class/high-density residential, and all of a sudden, they wouldn't go past one to two $'s and now they're pretty much blank lotted zones. I think this traffic noise bug is spreadin' like wildfire.

Also, I tried the ordinance ideas, except for one thing: ALL of those ordinances are already bein' carried out! I don't get it, these buildin's are drivin' me nuts, and once my population was ove 150k. Now I'm lucky if it stays on the 100k mark. Please, help me. More advice is a MUST!!!
