First i want to apologize my terrible english.
my question is that recently i found out that one of  residence building as shown here.
the population of the building was originally about 5000
but when it turns to gray (means decrease of the symbol $)

the population become 10000.
what is the problem about this?
does it means i need to building more residence building or just improve the building?
Again, i really sorry for my bad english.
thank you.

Well I don't know what it says because I'm from the US, but if i'm looking at the right building, I'd say your sims are abandoning it.  Or the rich sims are moving out and the poor ones are moving in and they trash it. 9.gif hope that answers your quetion.

when $$$ buildings turn to $ more people can fit in it because the poor are compacted into the buildings.

It turns from $$$ to $ because of many reasons, to little demand for $$$, pollution, crime, etc

by the way very nice suburbs

Welcome to Simtropolis powerhands!
Your english isn't bad! No problem understanding what you are asking, and your picture says it all 2.gif

When your city developed, you had more $$ and $$$ buildings appearing (maybe due to your tax rate) than $ buildings. Since low-wealth residential buildings never are built on tracts (lots) where the building value is higher, and all your empty tracts have developed (no free lots in your city), there is no possibility for poor sims to move in. Yet, your industries and offices still employ poor people, so the need for them to move in is still there.

When the need for lower-wealth residentials is high enough, they will simply move into an older higher-wealth residential building, kicking out those rich sims and maybe dividing each large apartment into two smaller (poorer sims cannot afford to live in the same size of apartments as the richer ones).

In game terms this is called dilapidation, and is quite normal for the game. It usually goes in stages, $$$ -> $$ -> $. If the need for middle-class and rich sims is still considerably lower than that for poorer sims, those buildings will probably stay dilapidated until new R$ buildings might be constructed on the site.

1 question about rich sims moving out. Will they move again in when demand will be high again and poor sims will get their own houses?

    Welcome to Simtropolis, Indipuk!

Yes, Indipuk, the building can go back up in value and richer simps can move in. It sometimes takes a little while, though, because the poorer simps have to move OUT first. (Unless the building in totally empty, then it's not a problem) This is why you will often see new buildings being built for the richer simps even though there are depreciated buildings that you might think they could move into.

A lot of times, I'll just go ahead and bulldoze the buildings if I don't want to wait or if I don't like the building. This is just my own personal choice, though, and a lot of people don't do this.

hate to spoil the fun but yes, the value of the house can go back up, but rarely and tip I've learned, don't bulldoze, set it on fire, saves you the couple of extra dollars.

I have found that buildings that fall into neglect--ie, turn gray--have other issues, health being chief among these.  As long as higher education and gainful empoyment  for your more affluent sims have been taken care of, check your health map.  A big red spot or patchwork of big red diease ridden zones can take up to 200+ years (no joke) of adequit health care.  De zoning and re zoning  help as the health of any given tile tends to be related to other specific tiles on the map.  Doubling needed health care won't help very much, not as much as suplementing your large hospitals with smalller clinics.  Play with the funding and you can afford anything--as long as you have educated your sims!  A properly adjusted college is one of the most cost effective items in the game and will help you gain all of the rich citizens you could stand to see, and these sims in return will produce tall buildings that do not fall into neglect.  Just watch thier health.  A new zone has the poorest of all and can infect neighboring areas if the red color deepens to a scarlet hue, you may very well have an epidemic that can last for sim centuries.

Based on a city called Crowne Terraces that is 1100 yrs old with 80% wealthy residents in good health.
