Ah, a fresh update, smells good 3.gif
Anyway, you've waited patiently enough, so here's my next update!

Just south of Roselle lies another town, Bloomingdale. Bloomingdale is a sprawling suburb of 21,350 people founded in 1833 (read history on pg 1)
with many shopping centers and other entertainment. It wasn't always this way, however. The town wasn't much of anything until 1982, when Roselle's second highway, I-55, was constructed bringing
economic booms one after the other. In 1993, Bloomingdale became the first town with a population under 3,000 to recieve the
Governor's Home Town Award, an award that signifies great city strength and economic prowess in any given region.

Bloomingdale is also home to Roselle's premier rich community, plus a private golf club, 4 hotels, and plenty of small town charm within a bustling
    suburb.

So, here are some shots from about town:
    Bloomingdale-Mar.jpg
20 years ago, this area was nothing but farmland. But thanks to the highway, it brought financial sucess and commercialization to Bloomingdale.

    Bloomingdale-Mar-2.jpg
The main freeway, I-55, cutting through the middle of town. After 3,500 petitons were signed in 1995 to find a way to cut down on traffic noise, Roselle
city officials began work on the contrete barrier walls that are now there today, all thanks to that one 86 year old woman who started the petition,
claming "It's so loud, I can't watch 'The Golden Girls'."

    Bloomingdale-Mar-3.jpg
Commercial areas are hot on the market as they now begin to claim some residential development for their own use. The average price for a
commercial zoned property in Bloomingdale (avg. lot zize of 1/4 acre, and/or 10,000 sq. feet of indoor space) is well over $100,000.00 USD.
    Bloomingdale-Feb.jpg
A typical residential neighborhood. Even though there has been exponential growth in the commerce of Bloomingdale, Mom&Pop shops still
    dominate many neighborhoods.
    Bloomingdale-Feb-1.jpg
The corner of Oak and Barrington (Rte. 59) roads. An infamous corner thanks to the 1993 Christmas Eve Massacre, which claimed the lives of
13 innocent people, when a serial killer Mark Malone took them hostage on December 24 during a bank heist at Bloomingdale Bank & Trust.
    Bloomingdale-Mar-1.jpg
    Sunrise along the freeway.

    Bloomingdale-Feb-2.jpg
A quiet neighborhood on a typical Sunday morning.

    Bloomingdale-Feb-3.jpg
The Bloomingdale Historical Foundation is bent on saving the town's historic and important sites, which is why many of the buildings here predate
    1950.
    Bloomingdale-Feb-5.jpg
Ah, Taco Bell. One cheesy gordita crunch, please... What? A narrator has to eat, too, you know 2.gif

Hope you enjoy the update, next one coming soon 4.gif

Ive never noticed this CJ before, but thanks to your comment in Levante, I now have and Im glad. I read all three pages, and I must say your portrayal of the tornado disaster was fantastic. I love Bloomingdale as well, with the little facts you throw about the towns a nice addition. I'll definitely be following.

Yes.. for some reason or another, I keep taking screen shots when the simulation is paused, hence no traffic. It is a very busy freeway though.. At one time handling about 13,000 cars and buses and what not.

    Hope that helps 4.gif

Hi everyone! Whew, it's been a real *insert suggestive term here* of a week, with 2 school projects plus a presentation, it's finally over, and a new update is finally upon us 9.gif

    So, let the update begin...

History of the Bloomingdale Golf Club

Bloomingdale Golf Club was once the site of Glendale Golf Course. Opened in 1924, the original course designer, Tom Bendelow, was also an integral participant in the design of Medinah Country Club.

When the village of Bloomingdale purchased the 72 year old Glendale Golf Course in 1996, a commitment was made to create a challenging course with outstanding amenities within a country club setting. In the fall of 1998, the village brought on the golf course architecture firm, Lohmann Golf Design to handle this task. To make the course more challenging, four holes were re-designed and strategically placed ponds, sand bunkers and grass mounding were incorporated throughout the course. With the renovations complete and now a par 71 golf course, don’t let the distance of 6251 yards from the blue tees fool you. If you enjoy challenging greens and a not too overbearing of a course, you have come to the right place. Bloomingdale Golf Club offers an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all levels.

So, enough with the history shpiel, here are some pics!

By the way, this pic below this line was a real pain in the butt.. 3 1/2 hours of photoshopping, but here it is...

First of all, the course map:

That concludes this update, please comment, as they are what keep me from dying inside 3.gif j/k

3 1/2 hours of photoshopping!! Man, you're dedicated!! Hey, it's a very nice result, and the golf course itself looks great! Oh, and concerning the update at the top of this page, the town looks really nice and pretty with all the green, and I'm thinking you really are crazy, what with building a five-way street intersection (just look at the first or third picture at the bottom center-right)! Anyway, I look forward to more!

Christmas Eve update 8: I.. am an artist...

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates recently, but RL has been so hectic with Christmas and school projects and, it's been a living hell for me getting through this last week. So, let's get this update underway, shall we?

Well, as you all may or may not know, I am an artist. Art facinates me everyday. So, what's this update about then? It's about taking random shots from around town, and messing around in Photoshop to make them all.. ahem... arty. So far you've pretty much seen everything; Tornadoes, destruction, death, holiday lights, all sorts of shots from about town, golfing, etc. You've seen alot of what the Roselle Metro Area has to offer (although there is much more to do than you now know of 2.gif

So, this, which is Part 1 of 3 updates being posted in the next couple of days, will show you my more creative, calm side, and some suprises and facts, and other fun stuff, so stick around.

Also, as the number of minutes dwindle into the early Christmas Day that I'm sure everyone will be celebrating, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year's.

-Kippis05, Mayor and Alderman of Roselle Township

    LET THE SCREENIES BEGIN 3.gif

    Medinah-Mar-6.jpg

This will be a part of Part 2 of my 3-part series of updates, explaining my interstate system, and how important

it is to connecting and getting people places who live here.

    Part 3, well that's a surprise...

    NO PEEKING 26.gif

    Roselle-Jun-15.jpg

Kinda wierd looking, huh? This is a grouping of rowhomes on the city's west side.

    Picture done in colored pencil.

    Roselle-Jun2-1.jpg

Southwestern area of Downtown. You can clearly (somewhat) see the Larkin Administration Building, designed by the head honcho of architects,

Frank Lloyd Wright himself. Also pictured the Jordan Inn & Suites and the BP of Halsted and Olcott Streets. Done in watercolor.

    Roselle-Jun3-1.jpg

Ah, colorful isn't it? I call this one 'Linda' er.. anyway, this is a peaceful ritzy neighborhood in the Cabrini District of town. Done in something colorful,

maybe colored ink and embossed.. or something...

    Roselle-Jun4.jpg

This is one of my favorites, more or less a classical mid-century neighborhood on the city's

near South Side, or the Robert Taylor District. Done in crayon.

    5.jpg

Here's a favorite: One of Roselle's newly installed survelance cameras in place on every street light, stoplight, highrise, anywhere you can think of,

there's a camera there. The Stratford Square Mall had even installed cameras in their changing rooms to check for, ahem.. "shoplifters."

    7.jpg

AH, A SWIRLING VORTEX!! Actually, my computer's screensaver 3.gif

Taken during the summer of 2000, this is a picture of the Rockwell Gardens Townhomes.

    8.jpg

My favorite place to spend the weekend (and my girlfriend's favorite place to spend all my money..) THE MALL! Remember when

I told you about those changing room survelance cameras, well, here's the Mall that implemented it: Stratford Square Mall. 3 major department stores,

(Marshall Field's *now Macy's*, Sears, and JC Penny, as well as Nordstrom and over 200 specialty shops and restaurants)

    9.jpg

A heavily pixelated picture of the North Side of Roselle, don't know how this got in here 4.gif

    10.jpg

Another watercolor done by me (and photoshop) of my favorite place for breakfast and that fresh cup of coffee for years.. Dunkin' Donuts!

    Mmmmmmm, breakfast sandwich 3.gif

Well, this concludes Update 1 of 3 for Christmas...

until next time (tomorrow, I promise 2.gif)

Thanks for visiting and please comment, it's what keeps me from driving over a cliff 3.gif

    And from me to you..

You have skills for Photoshop, the mosaic-type picture (little squares, like old bathrooms-walls [bathtubs specially]) is great, The ST art gallery, lol

Christmas Update Part 2 of 3: The Crossroads of America

Ah, the American persuit: Driving. Sounds like a great adventure. But, how do you get from one place to the other that isn't easily accessible by

regular means, like a street or road? Simple, by the freeway. Think about it. You get behind the wheel, you get stuck behind some 60 year old bald man who's

going 15mph in a 30mph zone. You see a sign for an entrance ramp to Interstate whatever.. You hop on, and.. ZOOM! You're flying faster

down that stretch of pavement than that time you ran to the bathroom after you ate that bad meatball. Freeways are the backbone of American society, as well

as the rest of the developing world. The Big Dig, The Autobahn, El Autopista Los Libertadores, they all have one common goal: To get you anywhere fast.

So, that's what this update is all about. I will explain the Roselle Metropolitan Freeway System and where they go, as well as new developments

for a faster, safer future for the citizens of Roselle County. I'm also going to explain briefly the Roselle Intl. Airport (O'Dell International)

    History

In 1956, after Roselle had exceeded it's city limits, and suburbs began to sprawl out towards the horizon, Roselle's engineers had a decision to make:

where and how to build a new innovative design for travel between destinations. Freeways weren't always a part of American society, and really weren't

implemented until the mid 1940's. The original use for this new system was strictly in case of a nuclear attack from the USSR (Russia) during the Cold War,

to get military to major urban centers during an air raid. At that time, the Roselle Transit Authority (RTA) along with city planners, engineered

the new freeway system for the county:

    Untitled-2.jpg

This is the current setup for the county's Interstate system. (major roads and thuroughfares not shown)

In the late 1980's, planning began for what would be the one of the most controversial decisions in Roselle history: The construction of

The Bloomingdale-O'Dell Expressway. Route 20 (Turner Park Road), even after a 2 lane expansion widening the road to

6 lanes across, the area was still experiencing snarl-ups, bottlenecks, traffic accidents, you name it. Construction began in

Spring of 1991 and was completed two years later, in the Fall of 1993. The proposed highway now carried commuters 15.7 miles from

Interstate 55 to Interstate 80. The expressway was a huge success. Traffic really hasn't been an issue since.

    untitled-2.jpg

The beginning of the BOE, starting at Rohlwing Road (Rte. 53) in Bloomingdale.

Imagine if you will, taking the picture yourself. Behind you is the I55 interchange.

interchange, Gary Ave. and Turner Park Rd. (Rte. 20)

The Roselle Road exit. (mile marker 8)

Now, some other images taken from the WROS chopper showing the other major interstate highways in the area

(sorry for the lack of traffic, but the simulation was paused.)

Due to implications of policy since the September 11th attacks in New York City, all images were taken over open farmland.

"Airport Avenue" as it's commonly known as around here, is because it provides a direct link into the

    O'Dell International Airport Terminal 2.

    IDOT Underground Expressway Expansion

In 1990, after the inspiration was sparked from Boston's Big Dig project, Roselle decided to expand it's highway system underground to

preserve some green space. So now, over 49 miles of highway are now tunneled through the earth thanks to the Bostonians' intuative design concept.

The project is about 95% completed, with another link between I-210 and I-80 coming within a year of completion.

    RoselleInternationalAirport-Dec.jpg

The entrance to the I-210/I-80 link (still closed)

side note: special thanks to blahdy and the countless sleepless hours for the BAT's for the Big Dig 44.gif

More updates to come on the progress of this project.

    O'Dell International Airport

The airport was constructed in 1942-43 as a manufacturing plant for Douglas C-54s during World War II. The site was chosen for its proximity to the city and transportation. The two million square-foot (180,000 m² for you metric people 3.gif) factory needed easy access to the workforce of the nation's then-second-largest city, as well as its extensive railroad infrastructure. Grove Place was a small pre-existing community in the area, and the airport was known during the war as Grove Place Airport/Dougals Field. The facility was also the site of the Army Air Force's 803 Special Depot, which stored many rare or experimental planes, including captured enemy aircraft. These historic aircraft would later be transferred to the National Air Museum, going on to form the core of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum's collection.

Douglas Aircraft Company's contract ended in 1945, and though plans were proposed to build commercial aircraft, the company ultimately chose to concentrate production on the west coast. With the departure of Douglas, the airport took the name Grove Field Airport. In 1945, the facility was chosen by the City of Roselle as the site for a facility to meet future aviation demands. It was renamed in 1949 after Lt. Cmdr. John "Skies" O'Dell, a World War II flying ace who was awarded the Medal of Honor.

The first commercial passenger flights were started there in 1955, and an international terminal was built in 1958, but the majority of domestic traffic did not move from Midfield Airport until completion of a 1962 expansion of O'Dell.

O'Dell Airport is municipally connected to the city of Roselle via a narrow strip of land under the I-80 Interstate. This land was added to the city limits in the 1950s to assure the airport was contiguous with the city to keep it under city control. The land was condemned then annexed instantly by the city before surrounding suburbs even knew what happened to keep them from interfering with the city's plans for growth at the airport. The aiport handles around 20 million passengers per year, making it the 2nd busiest airport in the region. (Second only to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago)
