I like those photoshopped RL pics because the words on the signs don't look like they were photoshopped at all! Nice expressway system as well, although the two-digit ones should keep going out of the city on the opposite side of where it came in because those are the ones that link the states.

I also notice that your using those new Big-Dig signs that were released a few days ago, just like I'm doing!

The airport pictures are really nice, and those homes right beside the airport are in no need for a wall because I'd imagine the residents are already near deaf anyway!3.gif

As for Part 1, sorry I missed it, but I still noticed it, and all the pics are really nice, especially the swirley one! Hope you didn't look at it too long!46.gif

I'm anxiously awaiting part 3!29.gif

Christmas Update 3 of 3: Custom Content Database

Remember when I said I was going to create a database for the custom content showcased in Roselle? Well, SUPRISE!

I've compiled a couple dozen BAT's so far to show you what they are and where exactly on the STEX to get them.

    So, let's begin, shall we?

First off, hats off to one of ST's most realistic BATers, Simgoober!

His fantastic creations are nothing short of a miracle.

To get to the download page, simply click on the picture!

Simgoober's (most anyway) BAT's out of the way, since he is my main source of custom content.

Wow, awesome CJ you have there. I like the small town feel a lot... nice use of custom content there. I like the combo of old business buildings and modern retail stores (boxes 4.gif), that's a very nice touch. My favorite picture was Downtown Roselle, a true gem.

Also great work with the database, that's a very interesting feature. I've already spotted some must-haves 4.gif.

    Keep up your great work.

    Hey Kippis:

Never bothered to visit here but the custom content database looked intriguing, so I'm here. You've done a very good job meticulously linking everything. I've downloaded pretty much most of those BATs at sometime or another, and I'll probably be checking out those that I don't have that are appropriate for small towns or suburbia.

    Update 12: The Roselle Gazzete

After some deliberation at whether or not I had enough time to put together a newspaper, I say, "Why not?"

So, here it is, 'The Roselle Gazzete' gives you the latest and in-depth coverage on news in and around the Roselle Metro Area,

as well as important national news.

    roselle5-3.jpg

Authorities say at least 9 dead after a fatal plane accident on the Bloomingdale-O'Dell Expy. yesterday morning.

Full coverage story on page 3, after the Gerald Ford review.

This is still a developing story.

    Gerold Ford dies at 93.

Only unelected president healed nation’s wounds

    December 28, 2006
    BY JEFF WILSON Associated Press

‘‘My family joins me in sharing the difficult news that Gerald Ford, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather has passed away at 93 years of age,’’ Mrs. Ford said in a statement from her husband’s office in Rancho Mirage. ‘‘His life was filled with love of God, his family and his country.’’

The statement did not say where or when Mr. Ford died or list a cause of death. Mr. Ford had battled pneumonia in January and underwent two heart treatments — including an angioplasty and a pacemaker implant — in August.

‘‘The American people will always admire Gerald Ford’s devotion to duty, his personal character and the honorable conduct of his administration,’’ President Bush said in a statement.

    Longest living president

Mr. Ford was the longest living president, followed by Ronald Reagan, who also died at 93.

Mr. Ford was an accidental president, Nixon’s hand-picked successor, a man of much political experience who had never run on a national ticket.

Minutes after Nixon resigned in disgrace over the Watergate scandal, Mr. Ford took office and famously declared: ‘‘Our long national nightmare is over.’’

    1101731022_400.jpg

But he revived the debate over Watergate a month later by granting Nixon a pardon for all crimes he committed as president. That single act, it was widely believed, cost Mr. Ford the election in 1976, but it won praise in later years as a courageous act that allowed the nation to move on.

    In office 895 days

The Vietnam War ended in defeat for the U.S. during his presidency with the fall of Saigon in April 1975. In a speech as the end neared, Mr. Ford said: ‘‘Today, America can regain the sense of pride that existed before Vietnam. But it cannot be achieved by refighting a war that is finished as far as America is concerned.’’

Mr. Ford also earned a place in the history books as the first unelected vice president, chosen by Nixon to replace Spiro Agnew, who also was forced from office by scandal.

He was in the White House only 895 days, but changed it more than it changed him.

    GeraldFord90thBirthday.jpg

Even after two women tried separately to kill him, the presidency of Jerry Ford remained open and plain.

Even to millions of Americans who had voted two years earlier for Richard Nixon, the transition to Mr. Ford’s leadership was one of the most welcomed in the history of the democratic process.

‘‘I was deeply saddened this evening when I heard of Jerry Ford’s death,’’ former first lady Nancy Reagan said in a statement. ‘‘Ronnie and I always considered him a dear friend and close political ally.’’

At least 9 dead in fatal plane accident.

    December 28, 2006

    BY PATTY ANDERSON Associated Press

The afternoon weather was calm and clear. The preflight check went smoothly. And the engine reved up just fine on the ground at Bloomingdale Regional Airport.

But "not even 30 seconds" into his training flight Wednesday, student pilot Casey Mattuck and his instructor knew the Piper Warrior four-seater they were flying just wasn't performing like it should.

"We weren't getting full throttle on it," Mattuck, 18, said of the plane's only engine. "We leveled off at 300 to 400 feet off the ground and decided to swing back to try and land" at the airport.

In the end, Mattuck and his instructor, John R. Vashko, didn't have the power to get back to Bloomingdale Regional. But Vashko did find another strip of concrete: the nearby Bloomingdale-O'Dell Expy.

The emergency landing didn't go smoothly -- the Piper's right wing clipped a light pole, flipping the plane and sending it careening down the pavement upside down, hitting 5 vehicles in the process. Though both instructor and student suffered only minor injuries, 9 people on the ground lost their lives.

"It was pretty crazy," Mattuck, a Patterson High School senior who lives in Roselle, said in a telephone interview Wednesday night. "It still hasn't clearly sunk in yet."

    xl.jpg

The Piper, sitting upside down after the crash late Wednesday morning.

    ALMOST DOWN 'WITHOUT A SCRATCH'

Vashko, 62, of Bensenville, works for Northwest Aviation, a flight school and aircraft rental company at the Bloomingdale airport. The company's owner, Mark Clements, praised both Vashko and his "advanced student" for bringing the Piper down carefully.

"They were only four feet away from having a perfect landing without a scratch," Clements said.

The pair had taken off westbound from Bloomingdale Regional about 10:35 p.m. Wednesday. "When we knew we weren't going to make it" back to the runway, "my instructor took the controls," Mattuck said.

Shortly thereafter, Matt Keefe -- a builder heading back to his Park Ridge home from a job site -- spotted the Piper out of his windshield as he was driving his black Ford Explorer east down the Bloomingdale-O'Dell.

    yun_1679.jpg

Several cars were struck in the plane's landing, killing a confirmed 9.

"I looked up, and there was an airplane less than 100 feet above my head," said Keefe, 35. "I thought I was seeing things."

It didn't take long for Keefe, himself a recreational pilot, to figure out what was going on.

Just a few seconds from touchdown, the plane's right wing clipped the light pole, said Keefe. Then, "the plane turned over upside down and skidded about 50 yards," he said.

The airplane clipped several cars on the road in the process, killing 9 people, the identies of whom are still being with-held from the public.

    FAA ON SCENE TODAY

Built in 1985, the plane came to rest in Hanover Park west of the Turner Park Road/Springinsguth Road exit, near Bloomingdale's minor league baseball stadium. The Federal Aviation Administration will be at the airport today to investigate the crash.

Clements and John Vashko's brother Robert Vashko said Wednesday marked the first time in John's decades-long career as a flight instructor that he was in a plane crash. John Vashko, who was hospitalized with a head wound until late Wednesday night, could not be reached for comment.

"He's very, very experienced," Robert Vashko said of his brother. "He always told me, 'Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.' "

Mattuck, who just began taking flying lessons in November, said the crash has done nothing to dissuade him from his dream of becoming a Navy pilot. He has applied to the U.S. Naval Academy in hopes of fulfilling that goal.

"Our deepest sorrow goes out to the families of those who died here today..."  AP
