How would you rate this decade so far and why?

Well overall, I'll give a 6.7. Why? Despite the war, evily horrible cartoons, and bunches of other political  and social bs. It has been good for my family so far, we have more computers, cars, houses, knowledge and just becoming more blessed.

Well with 3 more years to go it hard to rate it.

But sofar not good, you had 9/11 another Space Shuttle Disaster, Columbine ( not just that one but the massive increase of those things)

Mid East erupts in War, Massive tidal wave Kills 200k people, record hurricanes ( at least in amount of dammage done).

I personally love this decade.

I'm starting college and having a great time, we had the man-parts to fight back against our enemies, the world has shown their philanthropy and fortitude in helping people from disasters like tsunamis and hurricanes, our technology is increasingly awesome, our (American) economy is doing pretty good (stock and unemployment wise), the fed rate has remained unchanged, people are finally getting into politics a little more...it's going pretty awesome. Plus there have been some incredibly awesome movies like The Departed, and Borat that have made my summer/fall so far.

Of course, I have to subtract from the score when the crime is increasing in Florida, plus the Taco Bells around here are full of incompetent people.26.gif

So...9.0 for me.

btw, thunder I love that avatar.

I would rate this decade as a 3.1. The 90s was truly one of the best decades when it came to my own personal family.

This decade in the world: Katrina & Rita, Spaceshuttle Columbia Disaster, 2004 Tsunami, Terrorist (9/11, London Bombings, Madrid Bombings, Bali Bombings, etc.), Middle East, Johnny Carson passed away, Ronald Reagon passed away, North Korean & Iranian nuclear showdown, Hugo Chavez, War on Terrorism, Political problems in America, Political struggle in Ukraine, Riots in France, horrible problems in Africa, Enron & Worldcom, and last but not least, we lost Pluto! (I'm sure there is tons I didn't include)

So, overall, I would have to say that this decade will not be remembered as a good one. In fact, I can't think of anything "good" that occured in this decade in the world generally.

As I said earlier, the 90s was the best for my family because my dad actually owned a quite large computer business. But after Enron, 9/11, and Worldcom, my dad's business went "down the toilet". The 2000s have been an interesting decade. I would have to say a major impact on my life was buying Simcity 4 and coming to this site. 4.gif But besides that, in RL, this decade hasn't been so great yet. Perhaps the 2010s will have something better to offer us.

PS: Btw, I know I'm making this decade sound grim; however, I am saying that I've experienced much better times.

Yes, that does sound grim.

My question about this decade is what will it be called?  We call the 60s the "sixties" and the 70s the "seventies" and so forth.  so the 00s will be called what?  I haven't heard anyone say "back in aught five" the way they referred to 1905.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I wouldnt worry about the bad things that are happening, IMO every decade has that to an extent.

We'll just wait and see i guess.

Easy Bakes: Sorry if I came off rude, I didn't mean it that way.

The_Family_Guy: Thanks!

Officially, I've heard this decade referred to as the "two-thousands," like the "nineteen-hundreds" was for 1900-1909. Will they call next decade the "two-thousand teens?" I don't know.  In my personal life, this has been the worst decade of my life, but since I've only been around since 1981, I guess this was bound to happen at some point. On the world stage, it hasn't been very optimistic either, for the many reasons already posted. The United States has become a country that makes its decisions based on fear, and for those who have seen Donnie Darko know, that is the bad end of the life spectrum, and Patrick Swayze doesn't like that. The 1990s weren't as bleak, but there were some pretty rough times in there, too: Genocide in Rwanda, Iraq War I, Bosnia, etc. With four years left, and two of those four still under the yoke of George W. Bush, I can see this going down as one of the more turbulent decades in modern history. 3/10.

Every decade has similar events/upheavals/disasters, not entirely unique to the 00's.

Lets look at the 90's

Hurricane Andrew, Mitch, Floyd

War in the Balkans

Israel-Palestine

Chechnya really rears its head

1991 Bangladesh cyclone (138,000 killed)

Mount Pinatubo

Kobe Earthquake

Rwanda Genocides

among many others. Disasters are fairly uniform in their distribution, its the amount of coverage they recieve that has given the illusion of "increased crappiness" AND where those disasters occur.  Unfortunately, a disaster in the United States is not equal to a disaster in, lets say, Uganda. There are many improvements this decade that were built on the previous.  Cell phones and other mobile technology has become readily available in just the past 6 years.  I personally can't and won't compare decades... they are quite arbitrary divisions in time.  Besides, despite the ill events that have occured in the past 6 years, China certainly has LOVED this decade as has Dubai and Bahrain.  If you are in the top 1% of the US earnings bracket, its been a mixed decade, you've either earned record profits, or got caught 3.gif

Too soon to tell.  Ask again in 2010.  Then it will be the last decade.

Umm...what's your deal with emos? In my opinion, metal people seem more depressed and violent than emos. Plus they dress worse too, probably influenced by MTV goths and such.

As for this decade, umm...maybe a 5. More bad stuff than good, but I bet that's just the media focusing on the terror in today's society and packaging it on TV as to show how bad the world is today.

For one Metalheads are more angry/violent/depressed and aggresive....this is a bad thing?

Its what makes metal a better genre then Wannabe Rock...thats all emo's really listen to...is craplike My Chemical Romance and Bullet for my Valentine....oh and Avenged Sevenfold...god i hate that band...

Anyway....Metalheads like Slayer/Metallica/Pantera/Iron Maiden and other bands which alot of people other then metalheads also like and listen to....

Emos cut themselvs/cry and always always say they are gonna commit suicide....not many metalheads go around writing poems about their own funeral and hang out at graveyards around midnight cutting their skin and wearing make up....

Look maybe Metal aint you but it is ME and thats who I want to be....now if I liked make up and wearing funny suits/girl styl dress suits,,,then yeh I'll go be emo....Also veryone knows Metalheads hate MTV due to its lack of Metal related programing/music vids...all they show is rap and emos...

I'd like to see your response....

*sigh* Hey dude, I respect your opinion and all, but you gotta quit the whining--YOU are beginning to sound emo yourself, and you wouldn't like that will you?

First of all, get over the fact that emo will be around for a long time as it gains popularity through the 2000's (yes, I'm staying on topic), while metal fades--as I can tell its happening now. Just move on with your life, and forget that emos exist, if that's what you prefer. Trap yourself in a bubble and listen to your Pantera.

Now to the point (this is the part where I agree with you on some things). My Chemical Romance is crap. Avenged Sevenfold is even worse. And Bullet for My Valentine is probably the worst music you can call emo--because it's not--it's crap too.

As for MTV. They only play crap. And yes, the emo they play--P!athedisco, FOB, and AFI--that's crap, too. Real emo does not get played in the mainstream. And they barely play rock at all on MTV.

Oh and for the emo stereotyping (crying, hanging out at graveyards) where did you get that crap? Not every emo cries or hangs out at graveyards (that's for metalheads). Have you ever considered whether people just actually like this type of music--and not engulf themselves in the culture? I mean to listen to a certain type of music (emo, metal, whatever), does not mean you have to dress a certain way or act this way or that. You can be normal and just like the music itself.

My final point, get over it and stop complaining about emos. Move on with your life and quit the whining. It's just music. I like it, you like it. Whatever. Listen to what you want or what you prefer, and let other people be.

Back on the topic of this decade. Yes, I loved the 90's--Michael Jordan really shone in this decade. As did OJ Simpson...well, under the helicopter searchlights. But as for this decade, no one can really predict the future, so once the decade is officially over...I might properly rate it then.

I give this decade a 1.0. Reasons being: 1) Bush is still president, we're still in an endless war, country is more vulnerable than ever 2) cost of living = WAY up, working hours are doubled, salaries are twice as low, 3) music is dead, honestly we have seen the death of all originality as we knew it (probably since Kurt died), 4) where the hell are hand-drawn cartoons? I'm sick of this comptuer animated crap with these idiotic animals and stupid cookie-cutter plots.

    Now I'm angry 15.gif

Actaully yes...Metal is fading...but only in America...although the Hardocre Underground movement is florishing....probably thanks to peeps like me who'd rather mosh then...umm write poems and listen to My Chemical Romance...but you kinda get me wrong...you think I hate the people that like emo music...hell no...to each there own,but I do hate those emo guys only cuase I feel they personally embrace their emo culture way to much......

Now your gonna tell me,but Cjah...metalheads are like emos too because metalheads embrace metal way to much...

sadly...yes Black Metal fans love black armor and spikes and high combat boots and it kinda is embarresing to metal...although back in the early 80's it was pretty cool seeing bands like Slayer and such sport the spikes...

Trap yourself in a bubble and listen to your Pantera. quote>

I might just have to do that if bands like God Forbid/Lamb of God/Chimaria don't start gaining more of a fanbase...I mean this is true American metal at its best and to me...it seems no one is listening...

Oh and for the emo stereotyping (crying, hanging out at graveyards) where did you get that crap? Not every emo cries or hangs out at graveyards (that's for metalheads).quote>

ummm Metalheads ...crying...why?did someone ban Metal in North America like they banned the early work of Cannibal Corpse in Germany...(Chris Barnes Rules!.....Corspegrinder Fisher never got his work banned in Germany!)

Anyway...I'm reminded of Funeral Thirst by Black Dahlia Murder...if your not familar with the music video..they headbang and sing a badass lil song in a graveyard.....ok so yeh ...maybe...just maybe metalheads like graveyards, but I've seen a thousand more goths and emos at graveyards then ordinary metalheads....

But yeh...I'm not bashing the ordinary non emos who love emos....or emo music or whatever it is called nowaday....I'm just bashing those who over do it to much....

I'm pretty opened minded...metalheads like more then just metal...

Personally the only music I HATE is country...(sad songs sung to happy) and Emo...(sad music sung way to sad....)

I love Jazz/Blues/smooth Jazz, rock and many other styles of music....
