NHP has just released two new SC4TF maps to the STEX.  Both are re-visions of two older maps by blade2k5, Khatari and Tropicana and were re-terraformed using SC4TerrFormer.   They now look the way they were envisioned by blade2k5 to look.

    Tropicana

Tropicana was born from a cataclysmic volcanic event which ultimately created the large central island of the region's island chain. The ravages of time and weather worked hand in hand to carve this new island into the landscape seen today. A variety of rivers, coves, channels and bays were formed as rock and soil gave way to the incessant pounding of the sea. Tropicana's volcanos have lain dormant for two milleniums but no one living in and around the area is ready to pronouce them dead just yet.

Tropicana features a large central island dominated by a large centrally located dormant volcano. The west side of the island features four small rivers cutting their way towards the center of the island. The large number of small islands surrounding the central one will give developers a wide variety of choices for development as well as ferry and bridge connection possibilities. The central island features a large expance of low lying land along the perimeter of the island which can be easily developed. Moving towards the center of the island, there are rugged highlands rising towards the volcano.

Tropicana, a developer's jewel in the rough.

Tropicana is an old map, re-terraformed with SC4Terraformer and made to look the way I originally imagined it would . I raised the elevation when I opened the originals' greyscale jpg with SC4TerraFormer and dotted the surounding body of water with some islands and atols. I also raised the mountain range a little higher with a couple of peaks standing above the rest. I smoothed the above and below water terrain up to the base of the mountains on all of the islands. By not smoothing the mountains, it gives them a more rugged and natural look in game. I also added in a few rivers along the western side of the main island with steep river banks in the foothills and leveling out on the plains, a bridge builders paradise. Of course, connecting the bigger islands togther also gives bridge builders more to play with.

Thanks to Legs-R-Us for the regional storyline.

    tropicanacolor04qo9.jpg

    Khatari

Khatari wasn't always as tranquil as it looks today. There was a time that the region breathed fire and brimstone over the land. It's many volcanos belched prodigious amounts of ash and lava which covered everything. Those days have long since faded into the mists of time leaving the dean stumps of the once mighty volcanos dotting the serene landscape.

Khatari is a peninsula region, scattered with islands and a great deal of flatland suitable for development. The numerous islands will give the developer a chance to tie the region together with a series of ferry routes and, in some places, bridges. The mountain range running down the spine of the main island will undoubtedly offer challenges in tying together the two halves of the island.

Khatari, and island paradise ready to be developed.

Khatari is an old map, re-terraformed with SC4Terraformer and made to look the way I originally imagined it would. I added in a taller spine of mountains along the peninsula, raised some islands in the surrounding bodies of water, then smoothed all except for the mountain spine and those on the western edge of the region.

Thanks to Legs-R-Us for the regional storyline.

It's about third on the list right now. The data is in and it'll take about 15 minutes to complete. It's just getting around to it at this moment is a little tough. Check back in a little bit!!

Well the Kerguelen Islands project has hit kind of a wall. The issue is with the remaining terrain after being reduced in overall size. The elevations (maximum elevation - 1830m) look like blades of ice jutting out of the ground - not very realistic at all. Actually it looks downright terrible. To retain proportions, the elevations would have to be reduced, leaving a featurless terrain, also not conduitive to productivity.

At this stage, I would like to ask you what you would like to have out of this map. 1/4 scale works the best with SC4, 1:1 scale is not happening, elevations need to be referenced to scale as well, being 1/4 the height.

So let me know, or we could just forget this project and I could do a British Columbia Project for you, of which I am a master!!

    ah, homeland BC bores me

though I wouldnt mind a map of the town I live; Squamish =P

    anyways, back to the island

well, how about then mabye can you do just part of it at full scale

I did this little map thing here, like obviously the bigger the better, but just like, cut it up if its too big, y'know

    632pxkerpeninsulaszt9.png

    think it could work?

or was the resolution too low for a quality landscape?

    Edit:

Wait, im an idiot, of course thats the problem

yeah, what was it? 1/4 sized? thats not what I want but thats fine if thats the best can be done =P

thank you for trying at least ^__^

Dahu, China is an approximately half-scale rendition of the peninsular portion of the Ninghai-Dahu region.  The region is 2305 x 2305 [or 9x9 large tiles], in size and the config.bmp is 36 x 36 pixels in size making for a very large and detailed region.

beskhu3epnm gathered the dem data, processed it and once having that done, worked on it in SC4TF.  Originally the region to scale was twice the size it is now and would have been too large to be usable.  Instead, it was determined that the map would be accurately scaled for elevation and 50% of it's original size.  Once beskhu3epnm had spent several hours over a few days time, made sure the scale was right, he made the sc4m file and sent it to me.  I then began to touch up the below sea-level elevations with SC4TF and I spent roughly 10 hours over a few days to do the terraforming on that task.  When finished, I began the opening/saving of the 81 city tiles in game and below is the final result.  The six tiles in the south-easterm corner [2 tiles north-south by 3 tiles east-west] are all water, but unfortunately, SC4TF cannot cut those tiles out so we had to leave them in as is.  The 'storyline' was written and researched by Legs-R-Us, thanks Vandy.

You can click the image to go to the file page if you want to download this map.  Any comments, questions suggestions or requests are welcomed.  Thanks for looking and enjoy.

OK world... Since we are coming to life here.  I thought I would show off a sneak peak into my HUGE project... This is only a tiny piece of it.  I have used SC4TF to terrance a nice little waterfall and then have gone into SC4 and used PEGs Pond Kit and CSX Woodlands to make this river come to life.

I will start with the SC4TF view.  This map is large and has alot of different scenary as you will begin to see in later updates for this map.  I have updates ready for show but will release them slowly as this map will still take me quite some time to finish.  I will explain more about it at a later time.

    waterfall3cm7.jpg

Now I will show the SC4 view with PEGs Pond Kit used to show the river.  And then the 3rd pic is of another view showing it with CSX Woodlands.

    sc4waterfallxa5.jpg

    sc4waterfall2zh9.jpg

Hope you guys think this will be an interesting development in the world of mapping.  Please leave some comments.  Thanks for looking.

    Hello ST,

I thought I could elaborate on my latest release a little more. Those timy region shots barely do it justice (that is, unless you don't like the map!!). So I included a few more images for your browsing pleasure:

    Mount Rainier Summit:

    mtrainiersummitig3.jpg

    Some of the Surrounding Terrain:

    surroundingterrainun5.jpg

Some SC4TF shots, the first is an overview:

    mtrainieroverviewaf1.jpg

The last shot is of Mt. Rainier in 3D form.

I hope you consider my map for download. It is available here:

    Map_This_NHP.jpgMap This! - Cartography Services

in partnership with New Horizons Productions

    Hello, All.

I would like to announce the availability of a new tutorial entitled "Using SC4TF wihout SC4".

As you know, SimCity 4 Terraformer (SC4TF) is a regional terraforming application developed and written by woanagaine of SimTropolis.  This application allows you to create, manipulate and general terraform a complete region without SimCity 4 (SC4) running.  You are no longer required to terraform only one city tile at a time – rather, SC4TF allows you to terraform across the entire region!

I own multiple computers but don’t want to have SimCity 4 installed on each of them.  I would still like the ability to create new maps and SC4 regions on these other computers.  Since SC4TF functions as a stand-alone application, I can install and use it on any computer I wish and create region maps to my heart’s content.  So can you by following the steps in this tutorial.

Follow the below steps in order to successfully download and use this tutorial.

    1)  Download the attached zip file entitled "Using_SC4TF_without_SC4.zip and save it

to the sub-folder of your choice.

    2)  Extract the files in the zip archive ensuring you use the "Use folder names" option.

    3)  Highlight and double-click on the file entitled"  Using_SC4TF_without_SC4.htm"

    4)  Enjoy the tutorial.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about this tutorial, please post them in either the SC4Terraformer Support thread or in the NHP Support Thread.

    Enjoy.

    Regards,

    Vandy

    Hello dadyrghluv,

You need to make sure that the file of the same name  CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParametersForUseWithCPT_No7TreeController SNOWCAPPED.dat is removed from the file. There can be only one instance. Also, if you have other plugins like the Middle European Climate Mod installed, they will have to be removed as well. If those items are still persisting, send me a PM and I will get a solution that works properly!

thnx beskhu for the tip, however i don't have a file thats named: CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParametersForUseWithCPT_No7TreeController SNOWCAPPED.dat except the one that is provided with the map.

these are the files i have for terrain:

    CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParametersForUseWithCPT_No7TreeController SNOWCAPPED.dat

    CP_Columbus beach cliff.dat

    CP_columbusrocktextures.dat

    CP_terraintextures_no1

    CP_diagnonalfix_snowcapped_lower.dat

i tried to remove the last file but nothing changed when i opened the map, still covered in snow. and the first file is the one that came with the map.

    thanx for the help

    hmm, okay.

Try this next. Clear the folder named: Columbus Terrain Mod.

Re-install the mod. Go into the folder and replace the file (again). Try it to see if it works. When you are re-installing, select "High Snow Line" from the list.

If this does not work, you must have a conflict from another plugin... Try above suggestion first!!

thanx for the help beskhu, great work! keep the killer maps 'a coming.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital as well as the largest city of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is one of the three Malaysian Federal Territories. It is an enclave within the state of Selangor, on the central west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Within Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is commonly referred to as KL.

This map is scaled accurately. It is 28 by 20 km. Thanks to blade2k5 for the modification and making of the SC4M file. The original map was completed in November 2005.

This map has been revisited. The original can be located here:  A Config is included in the package.  You can also find more maps by Mallow The Cloud here.

The Olympic Terrain Mod was used when opening/saving the city tiles in game, but any terrain mod can used to do the same
The PEG Crystal Water Mod was used when opening/saving the city tiles in game, but any or no water mod can used to do the same.

Any comments and feedback welcomed. Thanks for looking and enjoy.  Click on the image below to download map.  Please leave a comment and rate.
