I am a student at this school, Concord High School, located in Concord, New Hampshire. Last Saturdays dance was a complete disaster. About a dozen kids were...well, you can just read the story and watch the video here. This new station interviewed me and my fellow classmates across the street at the pizza place during lunch as the Police were called to keep the news off school grounds. kids are considering a "revolution" so to speak against the administration. By the way, vote in the poll on the website please. I don't want any debates here, just your thoughts.

They've been doing that down here for quite some time in both the suburban and city schools. Not all of them, but a good number. As happened at your school, the number of attendees dropped drastically! Some kids said they liked it cuz they didn't feel "threatened" and pressured to get into the whole sexual thing, but the majority thought it was ridiculous and showed their thoughts by not attending. Supposedly, the DC area is considered to be pretty liberal as far as progressive thoughts on sexuality. This proves otherwise, though.

In New Hampshire? 47.gif I'd expect this kind of crap in a red state, but New Hampshire is about as blue as they get....

And guess what.... there is absolutely nothing wrong with "grinding" as it were. Nobody is doing anything indecnet and all parties involved are consenting. So what if they're moimicking a sexual act. It gets done in music videos all the time, so naturally it leaks into common teen culture.

And if a parent objects to it, they don't have to let their kids go to the dance! Wow!

This is a prime example of people in a position of power attempting to force their beliefs on everyone else. "I personally don't like this so no one should be allowed to do it". Blech.30.gif

(Insert image of me giving the finger to this school's administration here)

I guess I'm out of the culture loop; I don't know anything about the dance.  I would hope that when my daughter is that age that she would be mature enough to understand the reasons against engaging in that type of entertainment if it's too lascivious.

Ever hear of Purdy, Missouri??  They have a city ordnance . . . NO dancing at all in the city.  No high school prom, no square dances, no Texas two-step.  Nothing.  Its a very, very, very, small town.

Is that the town that the movie Footloose was based on?

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

A Ban on one type of dancing ir ridiculous and if you ban one sort of dancing then you will have to eventually bann all dancing as it gives teens the chance to mix with the oposite sex and we cant have that now can we? lol

But seriously this shouldnot happen in and country that has a some concept of freedom and especcially not in "the land of the free" or you will end up being just like the Taliban. They banned everything that was fun.

According to wikpedia it was Elmore City, Oklahoma.  Can't verify that, but I know there has been more than 1 town in this country that tried to ban dancing and\or rock & roll.  It never works out to the good of the community though.

yea...lets not give the kids something to do...let them roam the streets by themselves...that should keep them out of trouble...:S

every generation seems to believe that the younger generation "dances" are going to go wrong, corupt their minds and cuase them to do things they shouldn't and make them go bad...from the jitter bug and the charlston to Elvis the pelvis to Beatles to Led Zeppelin to Nirvanna...them dances will corupt the kids...you think would have learned by now...it's not the dances that cause the problems...it kids with no outlet vent their youthful energy...:S

ahhhhh....shock dancing. It is very sexual...not sure why you would put quotes on it. Now whether it is wrong or not is another story. Honestly, I don't care.

That is a good point Indisguise...

It is good to be simple

It is good to be free

It is good to be

Where you ought to be...

Dance, dance wherever you may be

I am the Lord of the dance said he ...

Well, there's dancing and then there's dancing.  When I want to school dances Tango's were not allowed.  The school board thought they were "Navel engagements without loss of semen".

Well this is issue has reached new stations as far as Boston! We've had news crew after news crew swarm the school. Our Principal is hating the publicity. And our school of 2,200 students is not trying to find a solution. The problem with this is it is sort of a double standard. Say your were a dad, any dad you talk to doesn't want a senior bumping and grinding his say freshman daughter. But say your the dad of the senior, I don't think they see as much of a problem. But there just going to give in, and be more leaniant its whats happened with every style. You just have to accept it, there is obviously a line that needs to be drawn somewhere, but heres not the time or place. You can't possibly fight this. Our principal tried to fight it, and guess what. He kicked 12 people out, about 200 more followed. Went to nearby Whites Park, started partying (dancing some drinking) there, cops came, kicked them on, then they went to the student parking lot, same thing went on, cops came and gave them the boot. Then they went to another park, except this time the Senior class president gave a speech told everyone to settle down and all this. Then the cops came, this time arrests and they sent everyone home. So kicking these guys out was a stupid move, they would ahve been better off bumping and grinding in the gym like they were! There were adults there so it wouldn't become anything more. Its just ridiculous.

Ahhhh Oklahoma, a big Southern Baptist stronghold.

Southern Baptist dont dance, Its part of the tenents of thier religion but im not sure how strictly they adhere tho that policy any more, there were actualy  school sponcered  dances at Baylor Univeristy ( A  private Baptist University in Waco TX) a couple years ago.

Yep! Definitely a double standard to me!  I would want my son to be as a much a gentleman with self control and respect for women as I would want my daughter to be a lady and demand respect.

I don't blame the principal for being embarrassed, it sounds like extremely poor planning and leadership.   The article makes it appear like  the parents and the students weren't involved until it became a crisis.  All should have had more of a say from the start to work out differences, and make accommodations or concessions to start.  If difference were irreconcilable then separate proms in a more organized manner would have been better than the chaos that resulted.  If the principal had problems with this, I would be questioning the leadership in other areas as well along with their understanding of teenagers and wonder about my children's education.

Just one more comment on this:  The current view of obscenity depends on the mores of the community.  As any judge, and that's the answer you get.

If this is a Southern Baptist Community, remember that one of the tenets of their faith seems to be hyprocrisy.  Most of these nominal tee-totallers drink like fish.
