Like, say I wanted to merge the four city tiles outlined in the below picture into one large square...

Is it possible, and if so, how?

If you cities are not built, you can use SC4Terraformer

step1 load the region in SC4Terraformer

step2 export the region as SC4M

step3 exit SC4TF

step4 use your favorite image editor to change the config.bmp to get the new layout ( 1x1 full red = small city, 2x2 full green = medium, 4x4 full blue = large ) further info here

step5 delete every sc4 files from the region folder

step6 load the region in SC4Terraformer ( this will bring you a flat region as no savegames are present )

step7 import the SC4M

step8 save ( CTRL-S )

and voila, you can play it again SC4

Nota : if some of the cites are already built ( but not the 4 to be merged ), you have to carrefully delete only the 4 savegames in step 5 instead of all savegames

Hope it helps

PS : make backups !

wouanagaine: Sorry, I'm very new at this, but how do you export the region?

wouanagaine: Sorry I'm being stubborn about this and obviously are completely oblivious of how to do some of this stuff, but the thread you linked to to show how to make a config.bmp does not help me at all. It might as well be a foreign language to me because I don't know exactly what to do. Very detailed help would be appreciated. Again, I hate to keep bothering you, but I'm just an idiot when it comes to this stuff.

    hey cityhawk

To merge those tiles all you have to do is follow my steps, if you dont you will get flat land for those 4 tiles when you change the size:

    1. Use SC4TF to create a .SC4M file of your region.

    2. Open the regions folder you want to change.

    3. Then right click on the config.bmp and open with...paint.

    4. In paint edit the picture. (make sure red is 1x1, for small map... green is 2x2 for medium map... blue is 4x4 for large map)

In your case count down to where those tiles are and change that 4x4 area to blue instead of green. (back up your region first incase you make a mistake)

    5. Then save your config.bmp and go into SC4TF load your region, if you have any cities already created LOCk them when loading!!!

    6. Reload your .SC4M using the import image in global tools.

    7. Then hit file-save and your done. Go into SC4 and you will have the SC4TF terrain colors until you enter and save each city.

jplumbley, wouanagaine, or anybody that can help here: How do you make the squares and color them? I mean, here's the original config.bmp:

    89bd46f142.jpg

Now, I'm able to color a few of the blocks (with a slightly different light blue shade than before):

    21f4f65a44.jpg

But when I go to color the square outlined by the yellow circle, just about the whole thing fills up with blue:

Oh man, I need help here please! I would like to get something out in my CJ before the end of the weekend, but I can't do that until I get this problem fixed.

Ah, I understand. You're using the "fill" tool (the paint bucket). Instead, use the "paint" tool (the pantbrush), and select the middle square size. That should be a 2x2 square... and just use four of them in a square pattern to make a 4x4 square of blue in the place you need. I hope that makes sense.

    Oh, good.

I was reading the other thread on this and thought you needed Photshop or something else besides good ol' MSPaint.

Now, to make my cities NOT tini-weenie.
