Good stuff, I like to see the variety in the different way people do them.

Shingure, for some reason I can't click to see yours bigger, not sure if it is just me or a problem with the link...

Shingure Thanks for your latest additions to the thread.

TheSixCents I like your map - and in particular the re-outlined M in black circle logo.

Very nice, bomb_123. Reminds me of Buenos Aires metro map.

There have been some changes to the elevated rail map for my city of Eloff. A couple of name changes, several infill stations on the existing track, as well as 3 new stations as part of existing expansion plans. Also, sims complained about the legibility of the names so a new font is in use.

I was a bit bored today and wanted to work on different ways to do curves, so I took the liberty of practicing by making a more diagrammatic version of bomb_123's map. Hope you don't mind.

I tried to use a circle cut into pieces, and had mixed results.

I just read this thread earlier today and was floored by these amazing maps. I just had to make my own:

And the city:

Mentarman, thanks for the compliment. I would love to map out my entire city in the future, probably will end up being section by section as i get to it and am motivated and have time, and when the area is actually finished 4.gif

Oh my gosh! That's amazing, mentarman . . . I'm really humbled by your effort to update my map. I think it's pretty damn impressive.

Benedict requested that I add transit stations to this map, so here they are

All these maps are so good! You make mine look pretty weak in comparison.

Benedict made this awesome map off a much messier version that I made a while ago. I've added the station names, however.

That's funny, mentarman, I had the same idea. I was just a bit slower than you... I like the colors and size of lines better on your version. I was trying to see if I could minimize the number of line 'breaks' in my map - apparently they distract the eye and make maps harder to read/use. Who knew!

Hahaha. Awesome, well done.

You've definitely done a better job of representing the physical geography (the rivers and such that I discarded) and did a better job of spacing out the stations on yours.

But more than the differences the similarities are the most surprising.

By line breaks you mean changes of direction/curves?

And just to reiterate to bomb_123 I don't think our versions mean yours was poor in any way, rather it was just interesting enough that it inspired me (and Benedict as well it seems) to mess around with it a bit.

thx1217 Nice work, I like seeing the in-game pic for comparison.

waway625 Nice new entry. Looking forward to more.

Yes, that's right. Someone ( I forget who) was lamenting the current state of the London Underground map, particularly since they included the wheelchair symbol to denote step-free access to stations (look at the mess around Waterloo station). But since the lines have become more complex over time, and things like the DLR and Overground included, it's pretty much impossible to make it any simpler. Apparently each time a line changes direction it's another piece of info for the brain to handle.

What I do like about the 3 maps is that they are all easy to read even though they are different. I didn't have much problem fitting station names in, either, which is often a nightmare. I really wanted to do the circle line as a circle, but the light blue line at the top prevented that - so I went with something a bit more geometric that fit the geography.

Im so happy.

This is my second map from Photoshop and I think it looks nice. It took me hours to smoothen up everything and place everything the way I wanted it.

I've cleaned this up quite a bit and shown Bridge Station more accurately.  Previously, it was not obvious which way the train would arrive at the platforms at Bridge, this allows users to see if transfers depart from the same platform or the opposite.  A few more station names have been finalized.  Some still show a * signifying the name is not final.

Sweet tutorials. I may have to translate it a bit for my program (photoshop elements), but I definitely think this will help me out.

This may sound stupid, but I don't think I've ever turned on the grid before. 43.gif

Yeah, I've tried it out and it certainly does help.

Thanks again for the tutorials. The only thing I do differently is use the shape tool instead of the marquee tool to create the lines etc. Not a big difference really. It saves having to fill every shape though.

Bomb_123: I recognized a lot of the points on your transportation map are also neighborhoods in Chicago (specifically the south and west sides). Is that one of the places that you took your inspiration from?

Mentarman, there is often more than one way to do something in photoshop. I did the 'circle' tutorial as a lead in to a tutorial on using paths - with the ultimate goal of showing how to do 'perfect' (or close to perfect) diagonal curves, since it seems like that's what people ask about the most.

Can someone hack this thread apart? It's becomeing more a tutorial than a 'show us your...' thread.

Thanks.
