    Welcome to Page 3! 39.gif

    fortfolleyu4bre4.jpg

The images in this update might be a little out of order, but I did them in the way they opened in Photoshop. So don't be surprised if there are houses then a railroad track then more houses. Anyway, here goes Update 4!

    img022qc9.jpg

You might recognize that as part of deadwoods' new Sunken Plaza set. It's across the street from the power plant.

    img023hv1.jpg

Three blocks away from the new plaza is this also new residential complex.

    img024fo3.jpg

This tight little strip between the freight line and the C19 is very wealthy, as you can see from the sidewalks.

    img025ms6.jpg

A neighborhood next to Lake Folley. The statues are in memory of troops in recent* wars that involved Fort Folley.

    img026yu2.jpg

The "down & 'dirty'" part of town. (Get it? Dirty? Next to a landfill? Some crime? 18.gif Uggh, I give up. )

    img027xu8.jpg

Some houses nearby the ones in Image U4-4.

    img028ng0.jpg

Wow, this update really is randomized.

    img029gf6.jpg

The East Woods, on the eastern (duh) part of town. It's usually a pretty quiet area of town.

    img030qx8.jpg

This is the reservoir that lets the residents of Fort Folley drink. It is lake water that has been piped through a filtration system to here, where it is stored.

Nine pictures in one update - phew! I'll be taking a break for a while! But I hoped you enjoyed this one; see you next time.

*Recent includes wars back to the Civil War.

Very nice town. You've got alot of trees (I like trees, although too many make me feel sort of claustrophobic).

Well, close enough. It's the weekend, what do you want from me? 3.gif

    fortfolleyu5bwa3.jpg

    img031ev7.jpg

It's a group of farms on the other side of the river. (I'm sure you always wondered what was over there, so I made an update all about them for you.)

    img032vj4.jpg

All of the 100-some residents in this section of the city live in this little subdivision. Most of them work at the farms; the others work out of town.

    img033dt8.jpg

Some fields. You can see a railroad near the border, however, it isn't the FFRR.

    img034bk9.jpg

More fields. The roads swerve around the property lines so trucks must use caution.

    img035ue9.jpg

All of the trucks bring their cargo here, to this station, where trains bring it to other parts of the country.

    img036so7.jpg

Of course, the neighborhood doesn't provide itself with power. It gets it from the main city.

    img037ob6.jpg

...and the other end of the lines.

That's all folks! See you next week!

OK, I haven't done this for a while, so I have a feeling there will be quite a few people to get to!

@All: Thanks for posting in my CJ! 9.gif

@simcitystar1167: I try to make all of my cities as realistic as possible, even if they're not part of the CJ. It's just the way I do my cities.

@City2TheMax: I like trees... LOTS of trees... And I'm whatever the opposite of claustrophobic is, so lots of trees makes me feel warm and cozy.

@jacqulina: How do you find time to post in so many of these CJs? And how can you keep them all so constructive and nice? 44.gif

The farms are courtesy of Nardo69, for his wonderful tutorials on how to make them efficient AND practical AND realistic. Very realistic. Thumbs up to you, Nardo!

See you on your next visit to Fort Folley!

How the crap taco does he make those residential areas? I want mine to look like that!quote>

Here is the update for the people who ask that same question every time.

    fortfolleyu6bnm0.jpg

Here's the update you've all been waiting for: the 'How It's Made' update! I'm going to show you how I make my suburbs! First, I choose a nice, big open space surrounded on at least two sides by a big thoroughfare road, like an avenue. Then I randomly draw down some roads:

    img038fw7.jpg

If you look closely, you can see all the places I had to stick a monorail enbankment (now that was time-consuming). Next, I start fiddling around with side streets. I place them anywhere where traffic will still use the main roads so they don't overload the streets:

    img038fw7.jpg

    Halfway done...

    img040yn7.jpg

All right, I'm almost done! Now I just have to stick in some monorail stations and and the embankment to the monorail:

    img041pk6.jpg

I'm do-- Oh, crap. I forgot to zone it. Anyone have any ideas on what type? Low-density residential? Medium? High? Commercial? 42.gif

*I really didn't mean to do this before I zoned. Sorry! 2.gif3.gif What a cliffhanger! 9.gif

Looks great! please can you tell me where that huge building with the sim goober canals on it is avalible (sorry if its been asked before i didnt have time to read everything) The city looks excellent, im not that keen on the monorail with the embankments, but otherwise good job!, keep up the good work.

You have a very wonderful and lifelike cj. I love how you stray away from the grid patterns for a more organic and real-life setup. The mini tutorial of how you make your res areas is something I think I'll try out. Thanks for the inspiration!

Pretty suburbs. The cliffhanger will bring me back. Will it be suburban low-density, or new urban medium?

The banners are a nice touch, too.
