A question about Deluxe Edition

Hey, remember me? I broke my Rush Hour disk a few months back. Now after months and months, I'm getting a new disk!!! The question is, I don't want to reinstall everything, but the new disk I'm buying is the Deluxe Edition--not Rush Hour (because for some reason DELUXE is cheaper than RH)

The question is, can I just pop the deluxe edition disk into the CD drive and click the .SC4 .exe shortcut and play right away, or do I have to reinstall the game?

I remember reading somewhere that if I bought Rush Hour, I could just insert the disk and start playing...will it work for deluxe edition too? Since I haven't removed Simcity 4 from my computer yet (it's been unplayed this long).

To Sum it all up: Can I just insert Deluxe Edition into the CD drive and start playing, or do I have to reinstall?

You will have to reinstall the game as the two disks are different. The copy protection will not detect the right CD in the drive. Back up all your regions and plugins before you uninstall, and do a clean unistall (e.g. delete any leftover files)

Thanks. How do I backup my plugins and regions? I have nero, but I'm not sure which files to copy and where to reinstall all the backups.

Plugins are stored in two locations:

    My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins

    [sC4 Install Folder]\Plugins

    Regions are stored in

    My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions

You don't need to copy them onto a CD using Nero, just copy the folders onto your desktop for temporary storage. When you've uninstalled and reinstalled SC4, you can restore the folders and all the contents.

    @ BubbaGump

When you use the uninstall, it will give you the option to save, or not the plugins [all game related data] . Backing them up is not a bad idea at anytime.

After seeing this thread, I've wondered--is Deluxe Edition 1 disk? I've never seen it, or seen the graphics on the disk itself...

Mine is two discs, but after installing it, I'v never used Disc #1. I think it's just the install data with all the lots, etc. Vanilla, I believe was two discs also.

Deluxe is two discs, but RH and Deluxe use two different copy-protection methods. That's why you can't play Rush Hour using a Deluxe disc or vice versa.

Why would you get deluxe when you already had rush hour?

But back to my question: I remember on the SC4 site a few years there was a rebate available for Rush Hour--10 dollars.

Is the rebate still available? Since when I bought Rush Hour quite a while back, I was able to get the rebate...due the sticker on the front of the box.

I don't think they have the little sticker rebates anymore. 15.gif

Good memories back in 03--sending the proof of purchase to Maxis...good times.
