Sorry I was gone so long.  Well, I kinda lost interest in SimCity and City Journals for a while.  And also, because of that, don't expect too many updates.  I'll re-upload the images from the past update I did a while ago later(stupid suspension of imgcity...).  That update showed downtown, but it's kinda outdated, considering I moved some things around from what was in that update, anyway.

Consider this the real start of the Halston CJ.  I've been working on the city tile just north of my downtown, which is called "North Halston - Olympia Park."  There is a sub-downtown, and venues for Halston's possible bid for the Simlympics.(Note that Olympia Park is a neighborhood, and has nothing to do with the Simlympic venues.)  Well, here's the overview of this city, plus a few road photos(not completed):

    nhop1tn6.jpg

A close up of the IH-35 and Olympic Parkway interchange(By the way, the road in the center of the north and south mainlanes is supposed to be a reversible HOV lane):

    nhop2zs8.jpg

Another road related close up, this time looking west at the IH-35 and North Halston Tollway interchange:

    nhop3cy9.jpg

Here's one last thing.  I made a logo for my future Simlympic bid.  Here it is:

    halston2006vn4.jpg

Well, that's it for now.  I hope to give you a full update soon(and re-upload my outdated downtown photos!).

Great update, I really like your city. Good luck if you decide to bid for the Simlympics, bidding for the December Simlympics starts on October 15th. Nice logo aswell.

...That's quite the freeway there... O_o

What's the tall, green tower in the last picture?

    I'll be looking for more...

    ace:its one of cobb's creations i believe...

    that is quite a freeway..

Hmm, a very narrow "North" tollway intersecting with a certain "35" at a sort of mini suburban downtown...suspiciously familiar..

Nice cj I suggest using a multi highway it gives you more lanes and at intersections you can turn it into one ways.

S1acker: I'm not sure about doing the Simlympics now, but thanks for the comment.

ACEfanatic: Well, that's how I do my freeways.  Houston-style.  Remember everything's bigger in Texas.  LOL.

hamsterTK: I have a surprise for you in this next update...

Bhargaj: Well, the multi-highway has less flexibility than the freeways I use.

    RushHourFreak: Thanks for your comment.

Well, I've cancelled update 2.  It's on to Update 3!  Our location is north of Olympia Park, via the North Halston Tollway(which will be referred to as the NHT from now on).  And now I present... *drumroll* ...Update 3!

North Halston Tollway at IH-435 in Uptown Halston

Hmm... I'll give someone a virtual cookie if they can guess what this interchange is based on!

A sign for the interchange(NHT Northbound, second ramp for IH-435 West):

    nht435signna0.jpg

Traffic on the North Halston Tollway

This section of the NHT is usually gridlocked sometime daily during rush hour.  It carries about 115,000 vehicles per day, and about 40% of that amount is during both the rush hours.  The Halston Area Tollway Authority(HATA) plans to put this section of the tollway underground, due to the density of the surrounding development.

North Halston Tollway at Northpark Drive in Uptown.

    nhtsign1bc8.jpg

Indeed, this view proves how dense(and NHT's tight fit) the area really is.  This is why the NHT will have to be placed underground if there is to be any reconstruction.

    More traffic along the NHT.

North Halston Tollway at Roy Frowick Pkwy

    nhtsign2dg1.jpg

Well, there was a real fashion designer named Roy Frowick.  Take a guess what his middle name was!

Suburbia and medium density development along Roy Frowick Parkway.

Hmm... some suburbia mixed with medium and high density(SPH tower) development.

Close-up view of development along Roy Frowick Parkway.

    Ahh... the "comforts" of suburbia...

Overview of Uptown Halston and associated developments.

North facing aerial view of Uptown Halston.  The east-west freeway in IH-435, and the north-south freeway is the North Halston Tollway.  Notice that I just plain enjoy lining my freeways with high-mast lighting.

Hope you enjoyed this update.  It just takes me a while to do something, so expect delays between my updates, however I hope for another update soon.

What interchange is it based on? I can't give you an exact INTERCHANGE.. but it looks like the 401 in Toronto... The way it just transfers collector lanes.. Geez.

Do I get a cookie? Okay.. so.. maybe not.

    Love Halston, btw. =D

RushHourFreak and jacqulina: Thanks for your very nice comments.

Well, I made a teaser for the next update.  I ask that you make comments on the last update, however, and the teaser if you want to.

    Where could this reconstruction be?

    See you later!

Since there hasn't been any responses, I'll go on to update 4.

Here is update 4... Reconstruction of the North Halston Tollway south of IH-435, Part I

The NHT was originally built with a very narrow right-of-way and only 6 mainlanes.  This meant that any widening would be troublesome.  The original plan was to put the NHT underground through here(it will still be underground through Uptown, from IH-435 to just north of Roy Frowick Pkwy), however, the project could not recieve funding from the state if the NHT was built underground, due to expense.  So, the Halston Area Tollway Authority and the state D.O.T. had to aquire right-of-way from other people.  Many of the people weren't too happy, since the homes along the NHT corridor are expensive.    But anyways, here's the update:

    nhtrecon1ye7.jpg

Looking south at Bellaire Ave., about 3/4 mile south of IH-435.  The overpass at the very bottom will have to go.

    nhtrecon3mx6.jpg

Now looking north at Northwest Highway, about 1 1/4 miles south of IH-435.  Construction hasn't progressed too much here...

    A month later...

    nhtrecon4vs5.jpg

Looking north at Bellaire Ave., construction on the new overpass has begun.

    nhtrecon2nq2.jpg

Looking north at the Northwood Dr. overpass.  This overpass is on borrowed time, because it is set for demolition.

    nhtrecon5pn6.jpg

At the north end of the construction zone, just south of IH-435.  This phase(Phase I) of the NHT reconstruction project does not include the NHT/IH-435 interchange, which is covered in Phase II.

Hope you enjoyed my update, and see you later!

hey there houston_fan! I like your highways, it's like near our place, the highway is being upgraded into a 6-lane, it doesn't need it but sometimes, traffic would be slow here so they decided to upgrade it. I'm inspired by your systems that I'd start doing this in my cities. hey, where did you get them brown construction lots and the construction stuff? Can't wait for your next update friend!

    Take Care,

    Charles

Charles Rodulfo: Well, I'm glad you enjoy my highway systems.  And the construction lots are available here: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=14360

Well, don't expect a new update just yet.  I made me a new mega-region(like the size of DuskTrooper's Montaukshire, possibly bigger), however, the updates won't be until sometime after Monday(when I'll get my new graphics card installed, an ATI Radeon 9550, replacing my crappy S3 ProSavage DDR card, which has made me use software rendering in SimCity 4...).  But I bought City Life, and I'll be playing some of that, too.

Hey, i cant beleive I missed two amazing updates! I really love your highways and interchanges. Also the skyline of Uptown Halston is amazing. I am just wondering if you will be following up your interest in the Simlympics by making an official bid? I hope you do, as you have a fantastic nation which would make an ideal location for the Simlympics. If you do, just post on our bidding thread (link in sig). Thanks and good luck whatever your decision.

This dropped off my CJ list, but I just noticed it and I'll start commenting and giving suggestions. This is looking good. But your development drops off from high density to low WAY fast. Like the downtown was implemented. I'd suggest to fill in most of that tile into mid density, with some mixed HD. This is really looking good, I'll keep watching.

Great cj! Your elaborate highway system is especially great.

I get the feeling you put alot of thought into layout. Keep up the good work!

SC4Noobie: Thanks for noticing my fault in my downtown areas.  I'll try doing the mid density thing.

Mulefisk: I don't think I put too much thought into layout, personally(but sometimes I do).  But anyways, I like it when people comment on my highways.

jacqulina: Thank you for your great comment.

Schulmanator: The downtown is great, isn't it?  And I bet you're wondering where the traffic comes from...

Anyhow, I wanted to show you something.  Guess what road this is based on!

This is a view of Interstate 10 north of Downtown Halston, facing west.  Nice, huh?

Sorry I didn't have time for an update.  Hopefully next time...

It's been almost a year since I abandoned this CJ, but I decided that I may start it again.  This time around, I'm using new cities built in the spirit of the original cities I built for this CJ.  When I get more done, be on the lookout for a new CJ either here or on SC4Devotion (I'm thinking about going to SC4D) called "Halston Rising."

Anyways, I have a few teasers of what I've got done so far:

    aerial1cb2.jpg

    aerial2un3.jpg

I'm going to post images on the progress of this new CJ in this thread.  I'll probably also add some kind of storyline when it's time to do the actual CJ.
