Oh, I was hoping that you would have based your Manchester on the origional Manchester in the North-West of England.

First, great cj and great pics.  I stopped in to see if you use your airport packs in your CJ, and obviously you do.  I think I will DL it and use it in my cities.  It looks great.

Why is this airline named Appalachian Air if your country is in the Pacific Northwest? Seems kindof strange. Also 50 A380s and 39 787s is extemely expernsive, proabably too much for any normal, non-state airline.

Note to everybody: This isn't the Manchester in England it is a fictional Manchester in the US that "replaces" New York City.

AfroThunda: I will need some airport details.

Yoman3: Manchester, in contrary to Metropolis in the original Superman series, "replaces" New York City.  The area where I live is in the Pacific Northwest.  The order isn't really too expensive, as we are a major airline and our current planes will be sold, for a fleet of only A380-800s, Boeing 787s, and CRJ-900s.

jacquilina: Hope you build your airport soon!

hyped_up_boy: The runways are a bit short but my calculations indicate that only 9R-27L can be used for my planes.  I'll assign the route to my Bombardier CRJ-900s, which are capable of handling about 5500ft.  Is your airport in your CJ?  I'll have a look...

I will also change your ICAO code to meet Canadian standards for major airports.

Dave>Welcome back to MLS Soccer Saturday.

It's going to be a longer half-time than usual on this Greats-Sharks game, as tonight, in less than half-an-hour, the International Simlympic Comittee will announce who will be hosting the III Simlympiad in March this year.

    mcr0054wk9.jpg

The spotlights are up, and the crowds are packed in and around the stadium as they watch the voting continue on the jumbotron.

Well, I lost the Simlympics, however I did come in 3rd place (WOOT!).

Coming soon, I will have an update on the airport (N-S runways are complete, diagonal runway is nearing completion), and an update on Chinatown (a reminder that Chinese New Year is coming!)

So far I've been working well on the airport.  I got both the N-S runways done, with the diagonal runway nearing completion.  Only problem now is terminal placement.  It gets me confused.

As a note, I haven'y been able to play SimCity for a long time.  However, one night I could play and I got lots of work done on Chinatown.  Unfortunately, I was going to make a special Chinese New Year update but then suddenly RL got me and I haven't been able to play for around 2 weeks.  Anyway here is the update!

Update 7: A stroll around Chinatown

Welcome to Chinatown, that place where you can find a little bit of Asia.

Here's the first image I have for you today (or rather tonight lol):

    mcr0055nx5.jpg

I have a question now--where are we?  This looks like the intersection of Broadway and 8th Street.  In the top-left corner you can see a freeway ending.  This freeway leads to a bridge that was constructed in 1883 to connect Downtown and Midtown (1883 is that familiar to you?4.gif).  Also seen is 4th Avenue.

    mcr0056sx2.jpg

We're slightly east of the previous pic's location.  In this pic, you can see more of 4th Avenue, as well as Graham Avenue in the lower right.  The cross street is... well... once again 8th Avenue.  That must be why my camera was fiddling on the plane while I was trying to take pictures!18.gif

    mcr0057me5.jpg

Now we're at a different perspective of the area.  In the lower left is a large hotel called the Kimberley Suites.  I spent a few nights there once and it cost me around $500!

    mcr0058oj8.jpg

We're here at the corner of 4th and 9th Avenue, where a hospital is located.  At the corner of 9th and Graham lies an apartment and a large office building.  Also seen is a police station in the upper right.

Wait a second--this ain't Manchester!!!  Oh well... I guess I have to admit I've been toying around with special effects for Star Wars (and other Sci-fi movies) lately with my friends (well I kinda made this in GMAX and the GIMP, the models are not mine-they're from a site called Sci-Fi 3D), lol.  If you really want to know what this is, its from Episode VI, where the Shuttle is approaching the second Death Star.

I also have to note that BAT projects (including a Boeing 777) have been keeping me down from this CJ lately.

Okay enough of that nonsense lets continue.

    mcr0059io5.jpg

I can't remember where this is... somewhere in Downtown that's for sure.  I think this is somewhere near Ground Zero.

    mcr0060nz7.jpg

This one's near Broadway.  Where the elevated PATH rail crosses and terminates.  The only thing we have here is a few apartments.

Unfortunately, due to heavy winds around Manchester that was all the pictures we could take.  We took a walk around Chinatown afterwards but we were so busy shopping that we only took one picture:

    chinatownou9.jpg

Also, it started to rain so we went inside a mall to continue shopping.

That's all I've got for tonight people.  As always, comments and feedback are welcome.

I have to admit it, but Appalachian Airlines has been needing a new livery lately:

    747appalachiandayqo7.jpg

    747appalachiannightiq9.jpg

I currently don't have an Appalachian 747 available for download (my current Appalachian 727 can only be available to certain members), but I will be requesting an Appalachian livery at Ace's thread.

Also, I am BATting a 777, so an Appalachian livery will be made for it.

    Manchester-bound Airbus A380 departs Frankfurt

On March 19, 2007, two Airbus A380s will make their first visit to the United States.  Two A380 aircraft will be landing simultaneously.

Test aircraft MSN001 will be landing at Los Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles, for airport compatibility testing.  Sponsored by Qantas, tests will be done in LAX for compatibility.   This includes airfield maneuvering, docking at the terminal gate and ground handling services and equipment, including fuelling.

Test aircraft MSN007, the newest A380 test aircraft, will be landing at Manchester International Airport on the East coast.  This flight is sponsored by Lufthansa.  MSN7 will fly with a full cabin interior, carrying some 500 passengers on its Transatlantic trip.  The aircraft will then fly to Chicago's O'hare International Airport and then back to KMAN on 20 March, before returning to Frankfurt on 21 March.  The aircraft will then go on to Chek Lap Kok in Hong Kong on 24 March and then across the Pacific to Washington Dulles International Airport, before returning to Frankfurt and Toulouse on 25 March.

The objective of the Commercial Route Proving exercise, always jointly performed with an airline - in this instance Lufthansa - is to fine-tune the aircraft’s interior systems under realistic operational conditions on a number of scheduled flights, in preparation of its entry into service later this year.

During the Route Proving exercise, the A380 will be flown by Airbus test pilots, and experienced and trained Lufthansa pilots. With around 500 guests on board on each of the long distance flights, in-flight service will be provided by a full Lufthansa cabin crew.

A380 MSN-007 will soon be taking off from Frankfurt.  Right now, the large aircraft is sitting on the tarmac, waiting for instructions:

    frankfurtaprondb0.jpg

"Frankfurt departure, Airbus Mike-Sierra-November-Seven, requesting IFR clearance."

"Airbus MSN-7, Frankfurt clearance.  You are cleared to Manchester International as filed.  Fly runway heading, climb and maintain 12,000.  Altimeter 29.26."

    A380 Lands in Manchester

At about 7:30AM, two Airbus A380s, MSN-001 and MSN-007, landed in Los Angeles International Airport and Manchester international Airport.

MSN-007 landed on Manchester's Runway 18L.  The 13,000 foot runway could support almost any given aircraft.  Various pictures (mostly that have not been released to the public) have been taken, mostly from the terminal windows, from other plane windows and from the adjacent industrial park.

    Heading for the airport now.

    Heading into the terminal area,

    Its almost at the gate.

    manchesterrl02ye9.jpg

    Now its at the gate.

Thank you for flying Airbus MSN-007.  We hope you enjoyed your flight.

    Notes

All footage from MSFS2004 is taken in FSX by bourneid.

This update is based on the real-life A380 landing in New York.

    I included some real-life footage

It took some judicious editing to make these images look good.

This is only a temporary update with pictures and short descriptions--RL will get me tomorrow and I need to get some sleep.  This update will be re-posted along with better information and more pictures.

    Comments and Feedback are welcome.

Well actually, this is a temporary update with pictures--I kinda went to a Flight Museum over in Everrett, WA today.  I got to see lots of 777-300ERs and now I can only think of BATting them!!!

Just a reminder that all FS pictures in this update were taken by bourneid in FSX.  I do have an A380 custom content model in my FS04 plugins, which I will use to create even more pictures and then repost the update with details for you folks.4.gif  This might include a map of Manchester including the A380's landing path and some SimCity 4 pictures with the A380 edited in,

You should note the missing presence of the light snow blanket in all the FS pics.  I'll have to edit that in.  So much photoshopping... so little time.20.gif

Thanks for the comments everyone.  Hope this explains it for you.
