Wonder why I never register anything. To get into this point I had to register gmax software, create a user account for this forum.. and register my simcity 4 and simcity 4 deluxe games. Everything went fine but I never recieved any mail from EA. No.. I am not going to contact the tech support. I got all I needed from the web. Just had to do some searching.

This just pisses me off.. I have payed for two games and I didn't get decent support. EA works just like social security. Everyone is cheating so deal with it. And yes I have bought other EA games but never going to register them.

Talking about customer service..

Oh I got the Eiffel tower with the Olavinlinna 9.gif

I tried to register my account at Simcity.com but I have serial number entered correctly, but it says it's wrong or registered already. Any assistance.

Or, I put this like this:

AAAA - AAAA - AAAA - AAAA or AAAA-AAAA-AAAA-AAAA or AAAA AAAA AAAA AAAA or AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?

If you call the EA help line, they can register your SC4 game for you. It works, I tried it.

Unfortunately, that useful email address at account@support.EA.com is no longer valid.  I was able to get my registration problem partly resolved (still working on the compolete issue) through EA Customer Service [customerservice@ea.com].  Response was quick (a few hours).

Well, these registration problems seem to be continuing. Got my copy from BudgetGamesEurope via Amazon.co.uk, boxed, in it's shrink-wrapping, so looks legitimate to me. And lo and behold, registration during installation failed. Found myself going in ever decreasing circles trying to find an online support or contact solution, eventually gave in and called 118118, EA contact number in the UK is: 0870 243 2435

here's the email confirmation with my update after they failed to solve the problem... note the times noted are American, not British. I also had to update the problem details as the lad who took the call just left the details bit blank (see the part under "Customer")

Sim City 4 Registration

Customer

05/26/2010 05:35 AM

Additional information not noted above: Initially tried registering during installation, got no joy, it stated that "there must be a connection" for that to work. Consulted an online forum, Simtropolis, advice there was to access "Program Files -> Maxis -> Support -> SimCity 4 Deluxe_eReg.exe" directly, but got the same result. Yet, sending an email to tech support using that seemed to work.

Given the above, I strongly suspect the database at your end may be at fault, or how it 'talks' to the net.

Here's the thing: your website devoted to SimCity 4 Deluxe (
) REQUIRES registration be performed before it'll allow purchasers the privilege of accessing downloads and suchlike to add to the software - presumably this also includes product updates and any patches that may be available, so I'd appreciate a fairly rapid solution - thanks in advance.

As you can see, their oustanding customer service is again failing miserably. They even said "call us back after 4pm your time". Ye gods.

Colour me singularly underwhelmed and Exceedingly underimpressed.

My chuff is most definately dissed.

If you are looking for the necessary Maxis patches, they are also held at sc4devotion.com.

ok, thanks 4.gif

(edit: Updated with the SK2 (European) patch... interestingly, the files they say should be altered after the update, do not appear to be. Odd.)

There's no need to register for the updates and patches at the Maxis SC4 site, since SC4Devotion also hosts the files...

https://www.sc4devotion.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=

Click on the "I agree" button at the bottom of that site, and it will bring you to the page where you can download what you need.

The only other reason to register is to get stuff from the Maxis Exchange, which I wouldn't recommend anyways...buggy, low-rent, mediocre quality, with some viruses and malware thrown in. And how many relots and reuploads of the same 40 Wall Street model can a site take before it becomes utterly laughable? Your best bet is getting stuff from the STEX, the LEX at SC4Devotion, and at Pegasus' site over at SimPeg. Infinitely better than anything you could find on any given day at the Maxis Exchange...

Interesting points, there. I take it then, that there is nothing in the game that won't work, even if registration fails (or isn't even attempted), then?

Thanks also for the heads up re the exchange at EA/Maxis I'll go use the others, cheers 4.gif

Hmph. EA don't seem to know how to find their backsides... they replied today, suggesting I log into their site using the user name and pass word combination I originally gave them (what, do they think that I'm that thick that I'd forget my own login details or something?!), and try registering again. Here's the text of my reply to them...

Once again, failure.

I logged into "
" using login and password you suggested. The result was somehow predictable: Registration Failure.

The error returned was the same as previous attempts: "Your serial number, (DELETED FROM THIS POSTING), for SimCity 4 Deluxe, is either registered already or is not valid."

I got the same failure result using "(BROKEN UP INTO 4-DIGIT GROUPS WITH HYPHENS)" as the serial number.

Once again, I have followed your advice, and come no closer to registering this product. This has now become a farce, and I am most sincerely dissatisfied with this entire episode.

Given that the box was sealed in its shrink wrap from a reputable retailer through Amazon.co.uk, it's a safe assumption that the product is a genuine EA product, so to forestall any erroneous questions by you, this is NOT a pirated copy, and I have the receipt to prove it.

The whole purpose of my attempting to register this game was (1) to ensure that I was listed as the purchaser of a genuine product, (2) to ensure that the product was up to date, and that (3) to obtain official licenced and/or approved plug-ins through your company to enhance the game.

I have now been forced to seek the patches and any available plug-ins for this software through third party sources (online gamer-run forums), and this is NOT the sort of result I expected to have to use when using a product from a supposedly excellent multinational company such as EA.

Frankly, this entire saga it is putting me off purchasing any more EA products, and you seriously need to pull your socks up and sort this problem out.

Sincerely dissatisfied,

Roger Stenning

I'm left sncerely wondering if they know how to use a map, compass, and length of string?

Anyhow, since you folks pointed me in the right direction to get the patches and updates, I'm no longer reliant on EA to pull a rabbit from a hat on this one, although it would be nice to actually be registered as the purchaser of my copy of the game. Ho-hum. Small wishes, or something... 22.gif

Cheers,

Roger

Well... they appear to have side-stepped around the problem...

I found this in my email inbox this evening...

Hello ,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

So it looks like the Deluxe Edition of the game isn't registering correctly through the website for some reason; instead, I have manually product registered you to Sim City 4 and Rush Hour. Please login again and check your Sim City account.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best Regards,

(Name given)

Electronic Arts

Here's my closing reply...

(name given) -

Confirmed, thanks. Checking results in this:

Product Name Serial Number

SimCity 4 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

SimCity 4 Deluxe

SimCity 4 Rush Hour XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

This has been quite a saga. While still quite dissatisfied that this happened at all, I am at least relieved that a solution - using a pair of different serial numbers than the singular one that came with the game - has been found.

I would also note that it wasn't just a failure to register the game through the website - the member of your own support staff I phoned that day couldn't register the game through their internally tied systems either, so you have a major problem still ongoing, as to why the game failed to register in the first place, and for that, you will need to address a fix of some kind to your serial number database and/or its' interface with not only the Web but your own internal systems as well.

Never the less, in this case, done, and done.

Thanks.

Roger.

So, what have we observed from all this?

  • Whether using the web interface or their internal systems via the phone, their registration system is sadly lacking when it comes to registering SC4D, as it cannot seem to recognise the issued serial numbers for the game.
  • Their response to customer assistance requests is pitifully slow by comparison to current responses from other providers (I've had solutions - granted this was a couple of years back - over the phone instantly with other software manufacturers for packages that were older than SC4D).
  • They need to address the customer registration database (or whatever they call it) in double-quick time, to prevent further erosion of customer confidence. Frankly, on curent display, I can't see that hapening soon, either.
In other words, while they have, indeed, managed to avoid stepping in a pile of bovine manure on this one, there's a stink over there that needs to be addressed with a rather massive shovel.

Wonder how many more complaints it'll take before they do something about it?

I myself have been trying to register my SC4 thru SC4 website after doing the online register when I installed it.  I wanted to download a few things, but it keeps giving me the "you must be a registered user" message. I can't find a valid customer service e-mail or any contact number on the SC4.ea site.  I got an account and it did update my game with no problems, but my CD key will not register thru thier site.  I just gave up, it's not worth the stress  and time to be acknowledged as a SC4 user by EA.  I'm so glad that I googled and found Simtropolis site, it  is so much better  than EA with a lot more content then thier site.   You'd think they could have fixed thier problem within the last 6 years.

I hate to discourage you, but the the SC4 site is very buggy...and a lot of the downloads can have viruses, so I would stay away from there if I could.

If by chance, you needed the BAT, or any of the updates from the site, you can get them here at SC4Devotion.

I got all i needed as far as updating the game and the bats etc from here.......but i thought i also needed to download all the buildings from there also. i spoke with someone at EA and they just seemed to screw it up more than it was. All i needed was my user name or password and i have not played this game in 3 years.....also new laptop so im starting over from scratch and i so wanna get started. so if i dont need the maxis buildings from simcity.com then im good to go but on the laptop at home i seem to be missing things and i saw a thread here that said i needed to download those from simcity.com I have three simcity games registered there so that fact they cant find any information on me is crazy.

If you can't find what you need here, try SC4Devotion

The EA site is really out of maintenance.

I think this topic should probably be deleted, or maybe just unpinned (is that a word?) since it is pretty much impossible to do anything on that site anymore. It probably won't be needed now...

With the new site, game registration no longer seems necessary. Perhaps this should be unpinned/archived and replaced with a reference to where to get the updates at the new site. The only requirement there seems to be to create a userid. Some !@#$-begotten %$^# stole my screen ID. Over there, I am The_Nonny_Moose.
