International Sites on Official Sim City website

Okay, can someone PLEASE tell me if it's legal to download from the International websites that are linked at the Official Sim City Website? I would really like to know because I would like to make a link to one of the sites for ppl who CAN NOT download the Lankmarks from the official site.  Like they bought a used Sim City 4 game (like me) or have a Mac version and so on and they are not able to register there game because of that.  And if you don't know what I'm talking about then go to the Sim City 4 website - click Community - International Sites and those are the links I'm talking about.  So would it be okay to make a link to the exact location of the Landmark downloads that are on one of the sites? Or at least make a post of where it's located?

So if there is a mod who knows wether or not this is okay, could you please tell me.

This is not okay if the site hosts the 'exe' file(s), as the official custom buildings is held exclusively for registered members. The site(s) may only post the link to the landmark, to the official site, like this, for example:

But it's on the official site. Why would they have a link to it if it's not legal

If they can't register SimCity 4, they cannot download landmarks from the SimCity site. Host it in another site, and it will be piracy. If you click on the link if you were not registered you would be presented with the 'Maxis User System' page.

*sigh* Okay so I can't post a link to it then.  If I can't post a link to it then can I post where it's located? Like post where to find the site and either say which button the downloads are located in or just lead them to the site and let them find it on there own?

Well, the international sites are, in fact, just the Japanese and the Taiwanese versions of the official EA homepage, so if it's legal to download from the official HP, it should be legal to download from its Japanese / Taiwanese version. I don't see a problem here.

Exactly! But the point is ...Is it okay to post a link to them for ppl who can't download from the official site or at least point them in the right direction.  Cause I would like to make a link or post the location (on simtropolis) for ppl who have problems with the main site and not get in trouble..like get banned from this site.

Hm, difficult case because if you post a public link, you cannot control who has a pirated copy of the game and who hasn't. I'd PM one of the admins if I were you.

Alright, here's the deal.

I've been doing research on this subject for the benefit of the Mac users here who cannot access the official site.  I had a conversation with EA.

It is perfectly legal to download the official Maxis files, such as landmarks, bldgprops files, and their BAT programs from anywhere, official sites or not.  You may even host them if you want to.  I will be doing so in the near future.

On the other hand, it is NOT legal to make money off of these things.
