industrial takes up too much room!

when I build a region, industrial ends up taking about 60% of the map. when I see pictures of other people's cities, it seems like they were able to have skyscrapers everywhere. Where do these mega citys have their industrial? am I missing something?

Example:

Canopuspolis1.JPG

Wheres the industry?

Another thing. I can not make a city that looks anything like this. My cities lack skyscrapers. Any suggestions?

Industry is probably across that bridge there.

EDIT: Big cities like that take time. You need a large population and everything needs to be perfect. You could also cheat (super demand mod), but that doesn't get rid of caps (at least I don't think it does).

dac: when using region play, you can have industry on it's own "city". You just need to provide transportation to your R/C city to make them all grow. Use an entire region as just one city and you can use this method to have an industry area away from your R/C areas.

There is also a mod in the Modds/Downloads section of this website called "The Industrial Quadrupler". It vastly reduces the amount of land needed for industrial use. It can be found here. If you search this section, I believe that there is also an industry doubler. I hope this helps too.

I prefer another method:

Take the lot editor and create your own "commercial-industrial" lots. I use north country dude's Modular Industrial Lots and change their outward appearance  to a commercial- or residental-looking building (Using different props in the LE). You can place them wherever you want but don't forget to modify the stats (emissions etc.). Furthermore ist has a positive effect on your commute time :-)

In my city, I zone Industrial, Commercial and Residential to start with, and add LOTS of schools (Using the money cheats of course 3.gif). When the average EQ of my sims is high, I take away _all_ the Industrial zones and replace them with Commercial. The sims seem to be happy too.

Yeah. Max EQ sims only demand various grades of commercial and HT industry. Even $ sims only have a small demand for manufacturing and zero for dirty once you get past 120 or so.

There's a FAQ on gamefaqs that has a table with what it says are the exact numbers. It may be outdated since it's for non-Rush Hour, but my own experience bears the above out.
