    Hi all!

Sorry about not updating in a while. Currently, I’m busy doing a lot of things for the project while attending to RL matters. Here’s a list of what’s currently going on:

-Lot’s of BATting (Sony Tower, Federal Hall and Staten Island BAT‘s)

-Preparing for the downtown Staten Island update (everything is done but I have to BAT Staten Island City Hall, and two other local landmarks)

-Thinking of a special update for the  4th of July

-Prepare an extra special update for the one year anniversary of this CJ for July 17th.

-Plus, I have to create a BAT thread to showcase my upcoming projects as they don’t really fit in my CJ and ask for some rendering help to make the BATting process quicker.

And finally I have to create a tutorial on how to get Sketchup buildings into BAT. Whew! A lot to do. July will be a very busy month.

On top of that I’m leaving to visit my sister in L.A. on July17th,  The day of the one year anniversary of this CJ. That update may be a little early or a little late since I don‘t have a laptop and I’m taking an early morning flight. I might even have to make the update from L.A. on her personal computer. Lol.

I want to get most of those things done on my list before I leave for vacation so I’m going to pick up the pace a bit. But before I do that I’ll answer replies and comments.

    Replies and Comments

Scififan68, Glad to hear you’re enjoying it. Thanks for stopping by.

ilikehotdogsalot, Thanks, but I already have all of those in my plugin folder. Though, I appreciate all the help. BTW, sorry about the delayed step by step tutorial on getting sketchup files in BAT. Did your ever figure it out? I’ll try to write that tutorial up for you as soon as I can.

    Kelistmac, Thank Kelis.

    Cmdp123789, Thanks for the suggestion.

But getting a better map would mean having to start all over again… re-plopping the buildings, re-laying the all the streets. That would make this project take twice as long. The current map isn’t that bad, I’ll have to work with what I got.

Arg777, Thanks and welcome. Users can’t put regions on the STEX because the file size is huge and the number of dependencies and supporting files would be enormous. Plus, the game would crash on older computers because of all the plug-ins I downloaded/ made for this project.

Thankfully, I’m putting up some BAT’s up for download and listing what BAT’sI used from other BATter’s in my downloads section at the blog so you can create New York Ctiy just like I did. You can even download a NYC region map from the STEX.

I’m not sure when I’ll finish this but it will get done one of these days.

    Manman99, welcome back. Thanks

    Steven77571, Welcome. Right now.

OK now it’s time for a bit of Brooklyn and another peak at Queens. First up, Queens. I forgot to show these pictures back when they were taken in Apirl but the area essentially looks the same today as I’m mainly focusing on Manhattan (with the expectation of the upcoming Staten Island update).

I’m expanding east into Queens and am moving up towards LaGuardia Airpot. I already have the streets laid out as far north as Astoria. There’s a bit of splotchy development in eastern Queens around Flushing Meadows Park and the Richmond Hill neighborhood. The roads are going to be tricky to lay out in eastern Queens as they don’t follow a grid.

Here’s an in the making shot of a neighborhood in Queens called Sunnyside. You can see 7 Line elevated tracks above Queens Boulevard also. In real life cars are parked under the tracks but I don't think there are any NAM puzzle pieces that would allow lots on the same tiles as el.

    queensboulevardlongislamk1.jpg

Brooklyn has a bit more development going on. The boroughs streets are laid out all the way from Bay Ridge to Greenpoint and as far east as Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Another in the making shot of Park Slope with a bit of Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens showing.

    parkslopewv5.jpg

Here’s a reference map for those who don’t know New York that well.

    nycmap2xz1.jpg

Back to the grindstone. lol. Stay tuned for more.

In your picture of Queens, is the left side West (Manhattan) and the right side East (Long Island)?  If so, the 7 train should be turning right not left.  Or, is the 7 train making its turn from Roosevelt Ave (from the left side) onto Queens Blvd.?  I believe that it's the second option, but I'm just making sure.

Also, in reference to what you said. "In real life cars are parked under the tracks but I don't think there are any NAM puzzle pieces that would allow lots on the same tiles as el."  I tried making my neighborhood, which also has parking lots under an elevated train.  From what I remember, I used the NAM puzzle pieces (with road below -- I believe)  and plopped pedestrian tiles (sandstone) ontop of it.  That way, it acts as a lot.  I found this out by accident when I was plopping ped. tiles next to a building and accidently plopped it on a building.  Instead of the buidling being destroyed, the ped. tile became the new lot.  The sandstone lot looks the closest to a parking lot (especially with the train above you will barely see it).  What I would recommend though is to save all your work right before you try this, just incase it crashes.  I've experienced it crash when dragging a transit piece/other NAM piece over a NAM rail puzzle piece.

By the way, love the CJ.  Keep up the good work both BATing and planning NY.

Just a quick update about an upcoming BAT Jasoncw and I have been working on. I know this should go in a BAT thread (I need to create one already lol) but it's also relevant to this CJ. Here's a peak at the Washington Square Arch, a famous monument located in Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village.

    washingtonsquarearchbf5.jpg

Expect to see this soon on the STEX.

Also I wanted to let everyone know I've created a video highlighting the best of the NYCJ for those who don't want to dig through posts here or at the blog.

You can see it at YouTube,

    Comments and Replies

Explodingsims, thanks. It’s alright. I do that myself with many CJ’s I follow.

I forgot to mention these are in the making shots, that’s why it’s not completely developed.

    You’re welcome.

slam465, welcome and thanks. It’s the other way around.

The right side is west and the left side is west. The direction the picture is facing is south, the picture is depicting Queens Blvd between 33rd and 40th Street. The orientation of the picture is a bit confusing but you can just barely see the 7 line is curving onto Roosevelt Ave in the left hand side of the picture.

Thanks for the tip with the NAM. I’ll have to try that out. But the NAM el pieces can’t be connected to the Maxis el. I tried this once and my game crashed. (I didn‘t save the city either).

I’m also thinking about going into the lot editor and creating a custom lot for this purpose.

Well, as promised I wrote the tutorial on how to get sketchup buildings from the 3D Warehouse into BAT. You can get it at my blog here.

granto93, welcome. lol. I have a billboard on the side of the Ed Sullivan Theater advertising the DVD for the 8th season of the King of Queens. Its barely visible though since its kinda small.

    crazyyaya, thanks.

Sunil, wow, really? Maybe you'll see their house then.

patriots_1228, thanks great. I could use some help rendering as I'm working on multiple BAT's right now.

Mikeaut1, Thanks. Just a touch of the Maxis NY tileset adds to New York feel and some buildings look like their real world counterparts.

Arg777, I'm sorry, don't be disappointed. I know how you feel.

It would be great if we could donwload entire pre-made regions. I would have donwloaded dc82's great map of Manhattan or the region of New York from a CJ two years ago (I think it was called New Amsterdam, I forgot who the creator was though) That would have saved me a years worth of work. But I'm having fun building up the NYC region.1.gif

The next best alternative is to download Google Earth and download buildings from the 3D Warehouse. Or you can try Microsoft Virtual Earth, I know it's not SimCity but it's entirely 3D.

Sim_BOB, welcome. Yep, but I'm having fun. Otherwise I would have given up long ago.

KroyWen, sure, but it's kind of sparse right now. Only 1 and 2 Times Square and the Toy R Us store are there. I'll show an in the making shot when it looks a bit more complete.

jacqulina, thanks Jacky. Always nice to bump into you on the streets of the Big Apple.

Stay tuned there's more to come in the da

What you have to do is drag the Maxis train and then plop the NAM pieces over the rail line.

    Hi all,

Well, I may be a little late with my 4th of July update but it’s till July 4th in my time zone. (I've been busy all day with RL and seeing fireworks displays). So, to everyone here in the US have a happy Fourth of July!

                   statueoflibertyfireworkks9.jpg

Secondly, Washington Square Arch has been released! You can find it on the STEX. It’s a fitting NYC BAT release for the 4th of July because the arch was built to commemorate George Washington's presidential inauguration.

Jasoncw made rhe arch and collaborated with me for the project. This BAT is also his 20th upload to the STEX. Thanks again Jason for making this and congratulations on 20 excellent uploads!39.gif

lucky7, Thanks, it look even better in the game.

slam465, Thanks, I was wondering why it wasn’t working. I’ll try that out.

penguin007, Welcome and thanks. I didn’t make the arch, Jasoncw made it for this project.

jacqulina, Thanks Jacky. Hope to see it soon in Paradise Falls.

Zoran_yugoslavija, Welcome. You can find the tenements on the STEX, Don Miguel made them. Just search for his name and you should find all his BAT’s. I’ll also put links on the blog.

On the NAM crashing bug, you have to make sure none of the puzzle pieces touch a transit enabled lot, or things go to waste. So if you're going to put any elevated rails above roads, do it before you place any elevated rail stations to ensure that your game does not crash. You are doing a remarkable job, and I plan on following this CJ for quite some time.
