cmdp123789, Welcome. Yep, all the streets are laid out as they really are in Manhattan and the rest of the boroughs. I’m using the Maxis map because there was no better alternative when I started, so I modified the map myself to get it more accurate.

When Beskhu3epnm came out with his beautiful New York map I was tempted to restart using his map. That would be too much work though. I’ll just have to work with what I have; my map isn't that inaccurate.

ilikehotdogsalot, The process isn’t difficult at all. Just download a trial version of Google Sketchup, (they say it only lasts for 9 hours but mine lasted a month. Not sure if it‘s a glitch or a mistype, probably the latter.) Then download the models you want from the 3D Warehouse to sketchup and finally export them as .3ds. The models don’t export with textures so you’ll have to apply textures in BAT.

It’s not that hard. I can type up a tutorial and put it on the blog later this week for anyone else who’s interested.

OK, now for the mini update. I’m taking a quick break from working to show you details around the Financial District of Manhattan that will soon be blocked by skyscrapers. One thing I sometimes forget while making BAT’s and creating neighborhoods is a good portion of my hard work will be blocked by other buildings due to SimCity viewpoint. So I’ll so them to you now before they’re blocked.

First soon to be gone view is of the lovely buildings located along historic Pearl Street near Wall Street.

    More to come next time.

Wow, this is awesome work, I'm visiting New York in the summer so I was searching around for some really great CJs, and yours caught my attention. A couple questions though:

-How did you get 3-lane 1-way roads?

-How did you get so many taxis on the road?

I loved the regional shot with Manhatten covered in snow, looked fabulous.

Wonderful work indeed, glad I stopped by.

Your NYC is the best one I've seen yet! Keep up the great work. I would like to see both downtown and Midtown at Dawn, Dusk and Night? and also, a shot of the world-famous billboards at Times Square.

One more thing. Have you ever thought of replacing the WTC with the Freedom Tower?

Hi, everybody, my name is Raphael and I live in North of Brazil. I'am building my version of NYC too. (I don't know the city personally, so its a challenge for me) and I want to put the One(or Two)Times Square building in the city, but I can't find it. Anybody knows where find it?

Thanks for everyone who answer me...

And congratulations Hanson, your NY looks very good. You're New Yorker?

    PS: Sorry my English!!!

    Hey Hanson784.

You NYC project is so amazing! Congrats!

One little problem though, some downloads on your blog's download page don't work anymore (http://nycj.blogspot.com/2006/11/downloads-and-landmarks.html).

Duke Mansion and 1001 Fifth Avenue

    New York Subway Station Pack

    Rockefeller Center Prop

    (e.g. these don't work).

    And from this site http://nycj.blogspot.com/2006/10/trip-to-roosevelt-island.html

Where can I get the cable car?

And the Simtropolis link for the Octagon doesn't seem to be correct.

    Thanks in advance!

    Great project!

Just stopping by to answer comments and questions. I’m in the process of making an update for the CJ but I can’t decide if I want to go ahead with downtown Staten Island or show you a behind the scenes look at the New York City Journals. So I’ll let you decide. Which update would you rather see? Now on to the replies.

homeandaway, Indeed lots of replies and activity over here. Fixed the pics so the should be working now.

lucky7, Thanks more will be one the way. In the meantime you can view my Google New York project at the blog.

Porsche-AG, I did a little photoshopping to create the 3 lane one way streets.

As for the taxis they are my own photoshopped versions of mikeseiths taxis from his taxi mod. I just copy and pasted the taxis to match the volume of taxis on Manhattan streets.

I’m actually in the process of making 3D models of New York vehicles such as buses, taxis, limos, etc... One of these days I hope to release it as a NYC vehicle mod. That will be a while from now as it would require the help of the modding community.

Have fun in NYC this summer. I might go to New York this summer also to visit family.

Belfastuniguy, welcome and thank you. When I look at that shot I get chilly because summer weather is here.

*****atoo-210893, Thanks for stopping by and thank you.

Steven77571, Welcome also. Sure I can show a screenshot of Midtown and Downtown at night. Actually I was thinking I needed more night shots of New York. I make a night update of Time Square soon.

Yep, I know kd5rax was BATting the newFreedom Tower, but his BAT thread was locked due to inactivity. I’m not sure when or if kd5rax will return. Until then New York will remain in a time warp.

BTW, speaking of missing members has anyone heard from X_Design_Team? I‘m waiting for the other two building of the World Financial Center to be released.

KroyWen, Welcome, your English is fine. I think I saw your CJ. Very good work. I’ll be releasing a Times Square Building this month so be on the look out for that.

Not a New Yorker, yet. I’m in the process of moving there though.

cmdp123789, I didn’t find any Times Square buildings on the STEX. That will change as I’m planning to release one (or more if I have time) this month.

    samuelzrp, thanks for stopping by.

Psycho Mantis, Welcome and thanks for letting me know about the links.

Duke Mansion-1001 5th Ave and NYC Subway Pack should be downloadable now.  The Rockefeller Center prop is working fine for me but for safe measures I’ll put them up on the STEX this week just in case the links should go down again.

That’s not a mod, I just photoshopped that into the screenshot. As for the Octagon, I’m not sure what you’re referring to but it could be an old picture hosted on imageshack that went down. I’ll investigate the cause.

Finally, I want to thank all the BATter's who are helping me indirectly and directly by creating New York buildings. It helps reduce my list of buildings to BAT and it not only save me time but it means a lot to me.1.gif

Whew! That’s a lot of writing I’m going to get some sleep and give my hands some rest. More to come soon.

I'd love to see downtown Staten Island!!!

    Looking forward to more,

    lucky7

to psycho mantis: the 'octagon' on roosevelt island is the radcliffe camera by caliban bsc, the roosevelt island tram is the csx cable car- scenic, just search on the stex, although I think they were removed or something. Good luck!!

Is there an ST thread or something where we can see NYC BATs at work? That should be included in the Mother Earth Project thing!

Hi Hanson, an excellent Times Square project!!! It would be so great to have all the adjacent buildings, wow, just imagine..

I am looking forward to your next update!!

to cmdp123789: as far as I know the Trump Tower is in progress... !!! I don't know if the IBM Building next to it will be done, too..?!

Honestly spoken, having the UN building and the five very scenic (and I think architecturewise outstanding) twin towers of Central Park West would be great additions, too. Unfortunately, I am not gifted enough to do them, so let's wait... mhhmm... 15.gif

    Take care guys,

    lucky7

Photoshopped the taxis and avenues? Wow, that's some really great work. The taxis you have in your CJ are extremely realistic, I can even see the "Ford" logo on the trunks of the Crown Vics. The avenues are looking really good, but just a little constructive criticism: Maybe try making the textures in the road blend together a bit nicer (if possible). I'm thinking that you were going for a realistic look because no road is perfect, but maybe more subtle road details would work better (small potholes and the liking).

And thanks, I'm really looking forward to going to New York, I'm sure there'll be lots to do.
