I have to say, this terraformer is one of the best I've ever used, and I've used a lot with things not pertaining to SC4. I have gotten this to work without problem a long time ago, but I'm running into a lot of trouble now. After created my region in the terraformer, I save it and go into SimCity to play it. Well, normally I get to see the all of the cities and even though it still looks like the terraformer, they load in fine and the region view resets. Well, a new region that I have created show this in SimCity:

Transportation View

tierradelmarcounty11817yn7.png

Regional View

tierradelmarcounty11817fx4.png

I turned off the grid before I saved it and notice how some of them still load the grid.

Now here is the real problem:

When I load any of the cities, it goes halfway through the second message in the loading screen and crashes to the desktop. After playing around, I have determined that this has to do with Terraformer. So, I tried the SC4TF debug, and got this interesting messages when I saved:

saving

skipping city Nouvelle ville

skipping city Nouvelle ville

skipping city Nouvelle ville

skipping city Nouvelle ville

skipping city Nouvelle ville

skipping city Nouvelle ville

...

And it repeated that for every city. Is it not saving properly? I'm running the latest version of SCTF, incase it's important.

Any help would be great and thanks again for providing us with such a great terraformer for free.

I bet you're just missing textures for your terran mod.

Make sure a flat region created in SC4 is loading, then raise the terran in SC4 using god mod, it may crash

Only photoshop CS and maybe elements are able to read/write 16bit png, irfvanview and Gimp are able to read 16bit but it convert them to 8bit,quote>

0-100 is because it is displayed in percentage of white ( 0 = black 100= white ), no matter if you use 1bit, 8bit, or 16bit

As I said in another post, in 16bit mode a lot of CS2 tool are disabled, and you can't specify a 16bit gray, but at least you have some filters and some layer tools that are not in SC4TF

Both programs, SC4Terraformer or Mapper work under the Vista OS, no problems. Either does all other Wounagaine's tools, including the X 2.gif

    Hello, I have a problem.

I created a map using the terraformer, but I wanted to have a nice region view. So I exported the 16 bit grayscale image from the terraformer. I then opened it with Simcity. However, the map was just transformed into a huge ocean. Also, when I opened the grayscale with an image reader and it is just black.

    How do I fix this?

Would it have something do to with me lowering the global terrain? (The land is still above sea level)

Thank you help would be much appreciated.

I just finished making my first region in the SC4Terraformer, but I have a few questions. I read through the entire Read-Me and most of this thread, but I have not found answers yet. I also searched within this topic and on Google with no luck. The first issue was addressed on the first page of this topic by prince_of_sims, but I want to know if there is another way. I want to make all of the lots large, but I don't know when you specify how many lots you want to have. I've tried just making the config.bmp all blue, but it gives me an error when I try to load my region: "It seems that the config.bmp does not match the savegames present in the region folder" I know it's because I changed the color to all blue, but what do I have to do to the rest of the region to make it all match up?

The other thing is how do I make the region have standard region texture colors when I load it in SC4? The colors are great for SC4TF, but I don't like how they look in SC4.

EDIT: Never mind that first part. I figured out how to get it done. I just exported the map of the region I had made and then made a new region with the 16 large lots. Then I just imported the map of my terraformed region and all was well. I still can't figure out the color thing, though.

I have just installed SC4 Terraformer earlier today, and the Directx thing came up saying some other programs were running Directx and stuff, so I read the readme like it told me to, checked all the .dll's, updated my Directx and everything!  But it still wouldn't work.

So a few minutes ago, I opened the Directx folder in Program Files, and tested the components.  It seems that Direct3D isn't working...it just goes to black screen and then dings and says I cancelled by pressing a key, even when I didn't.  Might this be a reason why SC4Terraformer isn't working for me?

If not, how can I find out what programs are using Directx on my PC?

    Thanks guys.  4.gif

ok, I am on WinXP, I have an ATI Radeon 9800 pro (128MB), I just five minutes ago (literaly) updated my graphic driver, I have every dll in that list in the read me, and I installed the version of direct x the readme pointed me to, when I try to run the program I will get a splash screen, I'm asked to pick a directory, I get the dialog for selecting which cities are protected or not, (I unprotect all, blank reigon) I hit ok and... ... ... ...

    ...

    ...

    ...

nothing happens, it doesn't even crash, it just hangs in memory not useing any CPU not changeing it's memory useage untill I kill it manualy.

if I run the debug build the last thing the console window will say (in addition to MANY other things) is "can't create directx" and it will sit there too untill I close it. as I mentioned earlier, I installed the version of direct x the readme linked me to, so, I don't know what could be the problem.

    I get no error log.

it's unfortunate the source code for this is unavailable or I could have tried to debug it myself (though most of my experience was with DX8 a couple of years ago). anyway, I figured you'd want to know.

BTW do you have any references to the file formats involved?

I've got half a bug to make a simple comand line converter app for myself.

evil weasel, try using the 'radius' slider and see if that helps. i was wondering if anyone had a good starting level for terrain. i would like to be able to use jeronijs (sp?) seawalls without having to adjust the terrain in game. also, would this height allow for the hole digging tools? sometimes my terrain goes below that 15m mark.

When I was using the program, I was messing around with a region I had just made to test this out.  When I was finished, I entered SC4, and loaded the region I edited.  Now, as you can see in the picture, most of the picture looks like what is looked like in the TerraFormer, except for little parts near the edges.  How do I get the whole region to look like real SC4 terrains?

Also, now when I try to load a city in the same test region, the game crashes. (It only crashes when I try to load a city in my test region. It doesn't crash in another region such as San Francisco.)

How do I fix both of this problems?  Please help me.

Edit: Also, on the program, it says that there is 6000m max height, but that it is much greater than the actual region max height, so it cuts some of it off.  How do I get this to not do this.  Thanks.5.gif

If this has been mentioned already, please point me in the right direction.......

My previous laptop crashed. Bought a new one 2 weeks ago w/Vista installed. Installed SC4. Downloaded the Terraformer, that's all I have of SC4 currently. I made a custom region, tried to open it w/the SC4T, & it gives me a blank error box. Just says error, but not the reason why. Other regions will load. This won't. Anyone can give me a heads up on what's wrong?

    The error log says

IOError [Errno2] no such file or directory: 'datas/masks.png'

if any one can help that would be much appreciated.

I got my question answered on another board. Evidently, you should just create a folder for your new region & not save it in the game.

    thanks

Ok, I have searched through all of the pages and read the readme file and unless I missed it I cannot find anything regarding my question. I am trying to export a map to sc4 and I keep getting a message telling me that my current map is larger than my region...How can I change my region so that I can export my larger maps to sc4? Thanks for responding, and I am truly sorry if I missed the answer somewhere in here...I have immensly enjoyed this program and it has brought my SC4 gaming to a new level!

In order for me to best answer your question, would you mind providing me with more detailed information concerning your problem?

What is the size of the region you are using?

What is the size of your config.bmp file?

What is the exact error message you're getting?

I'll be glad to help you with your problem once I get more information concerning it.

Thanks for posting and I look forward to your reply.

When I load a new region and go into a city, it tells me I have to reconcile the edges when I use this program.. If I reconcile, it makes everything under the water.. How do I fix this?

    Hello, PhoenixFire.

First of all, when you load a region into SimCity 4 that was created by SC4Terraformer, DO NOT reconcile the edges.  Simply enter the city tile and SAVE the city.  Once you've done this on every city tile, the region will be reconciled and will show in SimCity 4 terrain colors.

For more information, please read the Installing a Map using SC4Terraformer article in the OmniMaps section of the Omnibus.  I believe it will help you with getting a SC4Terraformer region installed in SimCity 4.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Regards,

    Vandy

Great program, really enjoyed using it cos I hate having to terraform in the game! I can never make it look good. This makes things much easier.

I have used it with one region and it worked fine, so I decided to try and make another region. But now when I open the program and select the region (i create a region in ssc, change the city sizes in the .gif image and then open it using the terraformer) all I get is the readme internet page, the 'brush size' window and the overview window. The window in which you actually edit the terrain just doesn't appear for me.

Sorry if this has been covered, seems like it should have a simple explanation but i'm stumped. I have the right DirectX downloaded and have read through the readme.

    Thanks

There is one in the SC4Terraformer dev thread, should be on the last page at the time of writing, look for posts from Romaq

Now if there are a lot of people who use WM, then I'll release a patch so SC4TF can read .R16 from WM.quote>

This was from a long time ago, and it has been a long time since I've played with either World Machine or SC4TF or SC4Mapper. At the moment, I'm working with someone. I saw SC4TF 1.0c will import .ter files, which should be just fine for World Machine to import... several problems:

    1) SC4Mapper2 works for me, but it crashes for the other person on an error he has to work with. It would be very helpful if SC4Mapper would be able to read and write .ter files so I'm in a position to skirt blowing my memory on those huge 64x64 city sized region maps.

    2) I don't know if SC4TF generates the error message or another library outside of Wou's control does it, but the "You have DirectX 9.0c installed, but your video card is not up to the task" (paraphrase here) should be altered to reflect "close any other graphics applications first and try again, otherwise your video card sucks" (to be paraphrased nicely). I was having a fit that my really REALLY nice expensive video card wasn't up to the task until I realised I had World Machine up, and that WM and SC4TF do not play well together.

    3) Export/ Import of *.ter files with SC4TF would be... very nice. Actually, in my mind the code between SC4TF and SC4Mapper should be as tightly integrated as possible. Perhaps it would even be possible to have SC4TF and SC4Mapper be the same program but SC4Mapper could simply be a batch file that runs SC4TF with a flag that essentially says "No 3d editing". I don't know if that is possible, but it would mean only one chunk of code that has to be maintained instead of two distinct applications. Perhaps even the relevant tools from SC4TF could be included in the 'mapper' view, you are simply saving people who can't handle the 3D view on their machines from being excluded from SC4TF's benefits (everything SC4Mapper really does).

    4) I would recommend restructuring file handling around "ile | new, load, save, save as..." and remove 'import/ export', per se. A 'new' one lets you create a region of any size from scratch and behave like SC4Mapper's 'region create'. You would just use 'file | new' instead for both programs. 'file | save as' defaults to saving it as an SC4 Region, but permits you to save it as *.png, *.ter and whatnot without having to mess with a separate 'export' button. If I *loaded* the region, *.ter, *.png.... it should save it to the same file I just 'opened' it from. Again, acting just and exactly like a typical word processor. 'Save as' should bring up a warning if I'm about to save on top of the file I loaded or any other preexisting file.

Thank you for the ongoing work, I look forward to seeing how everything shakes out.

To expand on that quote, I have to add that the binaries for DX9 have to be downloaded and installed, as they do not come with Vista, from the indications that I've received poking around the OS.

    SC4T just won't work with DX10.
