Well then N_O_Body,

If you have read through the read me you would know how to stop it from coming up at all. This is the precaution that wouanagaine took to make sure that everyone read the read me and those who are complaining about the read me are "TMs"

The problem is though that all users NEED to see this ReadMe, if only because of the DirectX latest update requirement. The amount of complaints due to unupdated directx versions is a testament to this.

An automatic button in program files menu to remove the readme might solve the problem in a more acceptable way for people who don't like messing around with files.

Personally I don't see a problem with it as it is.

running dxdiag on my machine, the d3d9.dll is 5.03.2600.2180, I think yours is a little outdated

To be sure you have the version needed by SC4Terraformer, go in c:\windows\system32 and look for d3dx9_30.dll, if you have not this file, you are not uptodate.

    All

Yes the readme is quite boring, but reading it once entierly and you'll know how to disable it.

The problem is that despites it pop evertime, it has failed to protecting me for complaints and basic questions already answered in it. Need to find another way. maybe a popup every 2 mins ? ( just kidding )

Hmmm, I don't think this problem has come up previously (or been addressed).  I had problems running the program after installation, keeped getting errors that were written to the log file.

Finally I downloaded the dll the readme file talks about.

I got all excited because it looked like that was going to work.  I opened the program, the splash screen poped up and then the  readme file opened.   No program.  Am I missing something.  At first I thought maybe I opened the wrong file so I tried it several times and selecting SC4 Terraformer opens the readme file only.

Am I doing something wrong?  What should the program look like when it opens.  As I said it looks like it is just opening the readme file in E.I.

Normally, the readme pops up over top of a window where you can select a region to terraform. If you want to start a region from scratch you should create a new folder in your Regions folder and then create you config.bmp. Then open up SC4TF and minimize the readme and select your region. Another screen will pop up showing your config.bmp layout and a list of all the cities. You can push ok and start terraforming.

If that doesnt work wouanagaine will have to help you.

The opening normally looks like this (not counting the spash pic and the readme file)

    openscreenmi2.jpg

As jplumbly pointed out, you must select a VALID* region for it to work.. GL

*Valid means it is an existing reagion or it has a valid config.bmp in it. If you don't know about config.bmp, there is a thread on that in the mapping forum in this thread.

minimize or close the readme. the program can sometimes pop up behind the readme. additionally, open up Task Manager and look for SC4TF.exe under the Processes tab. this will tell you if the program is closing on itself or not.

This is something you might want to know when i updated to the june directx 9.0c the version number didnot change and the version number you quoted wat the version number of dxdiag and not direct x . Yhe following is a shot of my dxversion and dxdiag version in the first page that comes up..

    dxdiagbo3.jpg

As you can see my version number is still 4.09.0000.0904 and the dxdiag version is the number you quoted to me and that didn't change either..

This is just so everyone knows

Do you still have the problem ?

In that case can you tell us what GFX card you are using ?

Running in 'debug' may provide some more informations, so if you can post the contents of the console windows, I may find out what happen

It works and in any case i have solved the problem thanks. 4.gif

I am using a Raedon 9600 128 MB RAM running at stock speed which is about the first DX9.0 card or one of the first. When running Debug before updating the program crashed the same way and there was no logfile recorded

The main think to note in the last post is updating to june 2006 directx from an early april version didnot change the version number latest file date was the 17/7/06

From what i have seen (it isn't much) you did a good job bu i nned to play with it in more depth to evaluate its ease of use and what i think could be improved. there are 2 things i would love dearly to see.

Direct import from DEM and an import of a coast template file in an image format such as png or jpeg.

A coast template file is an image derived from sattelite imagery to make a coastline more accurate as the STRM DEM data usually has a resolution of only about 100 m, you can get it down to 16 very easily using a second source. The image is black and white and only has 2 "colours". white for land and black for ocean/water or vice versa.

It would be also great if it could fit a coastline to DEM data as it can be frustrating to do so by eyeballing it just look at Innisfail Australia i have a feeling there are cliffs in that map that arent there in RL.

Finally can we find a few presets for importing region images for regions that are on the STEX already. The paramaters for each image and plugin are known so it would not be too hard to do so for each elevation mod plugin.

I have a message appearing that says, -confilictin .dll _ check C:\ProgramFiles\SC4terraformer.exe.log

What does this mean, because I already have that .dll file in system 32, and in the SC4 terraformer folder. I have also removed each possible combination of .dll files (16 configurations), and it still does not work. Any help?

Good to see the problem is history, still I have not understand exactly what you did to remove it

About DEM I know there are some python sources out in the web for loading them, so I may give a try to find them and add such an import in SC4TF

About coastline, maybe you can do something with them using 16 bit png ? I don't know if there are software for DEM to 16 bit png convertion, but if they exist then using Gimp or photoshop you can easily build with mulitple layouts what you're looking for ?

Message about conflicting dll are caused by previous version uninstalled or missing dll.

    Can you confirm that :

    - you have installed a previous version ( prior to the one in the Modds&Downloads section )

    - you have not uninstalled this version or the uninstall process has failed

    To solve this problem:

-uninstall the version you have at the moment ( uninstall is located in the Start->Program Files->SC4Terraformer->Uninstall v.09c )

-make sure that the installation folder does not exist anymore ( I don't know why but sometimes it seems that the uninstaller is not able to remove all files, a windows file lock I suppose )

-if it still exist remove any files ( make a backup if those files are some you have changed ie colors scheme, configuration tools etc.. )

-reinstall the latest version ( v.09c ), it should works now

    Prince_of_sims

    Thanks for taking care

    all

In case of problem the log file should be located under the installation folder, by default :

    C:\Program Files\SC4terraformer\SC4terraformer.exe.log

    Take care!

Just wanted to thank you for the help.  I was able to find the dialog box that pops behind.  Guess it was there all along.

One question though.  Do you have to open up an existing region?  I was hoping to create a new one.  I directed it to the folder with a jpg and config.  It saw the config and seemed to work on building the region.

Then it pops up and it looks like a small flat region.  the scroll wheel only seemed to effect the magnifcation of the image and even though I had scroll edges selected it didn't seem to scroll.  All I could do was zoom in and out of the top corner.

I think it made the region correctly because I opened up an 'overview' and it looked correct.

I guess I just am not sure how to manuveur within the program.  Seems like it is set up to scroll so I am not sure why that didn't work.

Is a "How to" guide in the works??

honestly, i dont know how much more useful a "How to" guide would be. no offense meant towards you, but the program is really simple and intuitive.

    now, on to your problem.

    1) is the config BMP one that you created, or one that you downloaded? what do you get when you load the region in SC4?

    2) when the popup comes up with the cities and asks you to choose which to lock, does it show the config BMP correctly?

    3) can you post the config BMP or provide a link to the map so i can check it out? it may be a problem with that particular BMP.

    4) have you tried importing the JPEG for the terrain? does it ask you if you want to resize or does it apply it at once?

Scrolling edge will occurs when you move the mouse near the edge ( 10px if I recall correctly )

Now you can also move with arrow keys, pressing CTRL with arrow key will make the camera turn

With the overview, you can clik on it, the camera will move there.

To check your bmp, enable the 'show city borders' it will display the layout of the bmp over the terran ( in 3D and in the overview )

    Take care

      File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 78, in load_module

      File "SC4TerraformerApp.pyo", line 3, in ?

      File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 91, in load_module

    ImportError: MemoryLoadLibrary failed loading tools3D.pyd

I checked adn I have the correct D3dDx9 dll and the other one mention in the readme.

(Off Topic: I feel ashamed that I havent posted yet but I hope to change that)

perform these steps and see if it helps:

    uninstall SC4TF.

    delete the program folder.

    reinstall SC4TF.

since you had a virus on your system, i suggest that you redownload SC4TF. if you made a backup of the installer, it's possible it became corrupt.

Thanks for the quick reply! 4.gif

I have allready tried all of your suggestions. I re-downloaded as soon as I reinstalled Sc4 and I have reinstalled the program 3 times and still I get the same error. Also I made sure to delete the Sc4Terraformer folder before reinstalling.

have you updated Windows after reformatting? if you haven't done so, uninstall SC4TF before doing it, and reinstall if after.

i'm trying trial and error here. when wouanagaine gets back he might be able to help you a bit more definitely.

Windows update might fix it, but I can't update windows. Everytime I try they tell me my copy is counterfit. Its not! I bought it from BestBuy, but, I think its because I had this copy installed on my old Pc. Any other way to get the updates?

there's a number you can call to get in touch with Windows Activation Center. call them, and they should be able to set something up with you.

i'm pretty sure you're missing the .NET updates that are required. so unless you can get that fixed, you're SOL. there are sites that host the Updates, but i can't post them here.

well, you own the copy, and you had to reinstall to fix a system error. as long as you have it only installed on one machine, they won't bite too hard. just make sure to emphasize the fact that you only have it installed on one system and had to reinstall.
