I have a question, Does the building have to be standing? If not, then my favorite building was the Singer Building

If it has to be standing, I'd have to say the Woolworth Building. Something about that building just makes me love it

Wow, great pictures, IDS2!

My favourite would definitely have to be the Sears Tower.  Its just so muscular and massive, it's just incredibly perfect for me!  9.gif

My Favourite has to be either Columbia Center in Seattle or the Bank of America Centre in Atlanta. Hmmm... They are both beautiful buildings.

It's a tough one; I love the Empire State Building , but the Chrysler Building is the most elegent. From the inside and the outside, it's a work of art.

The empire state building, although it may not be the tallest, the most modern, or the best looking, but this building was built in a time of depression and stood as the worlds tallest build for more than 40 years, it still stands as a symbol of Americas future. It broke the boundries of the new york skyline and has even survive a small plane fyling into it.

BradMacD: Ah how I forgot!

I have a couple other likes: The Aon Center in Chigago with Big John and the Sears Tower.

I'm going to break from my traditional requirements for a favorite of architectural nicety and go for the Sears Tower.

In spite of being (quite questionably) stripped of all it's titles of tallest...it is in fact still the tallest and most dominating building the world has seen... Taller in actuality than the CN, taller in structure than Petronas or 101...

Yup...it's still the monument to functional architecture it always has been.

Also, you cannot ignore it's size. While many tower frivolously waste air space when ground space in ample (*cough cough* Burj Dubai), Sears Tower fills a need first (TONS OF OFFICE SPACE, TONS!), and Napoleon Complex second....indeed with the NY WTC the first (and since Tour Eifle the only) Tallest building to break from this inferiority complex.

I must admit, that I don't know many of the American Skyscrapers, but really like the appearance of the columbia sea first center in Seattle, Sears tower, and the Transamerican Pyramid, which fits great into the landscape of SF in my opinion.

But the IDS Tower is my favorite...quote>

The third building is no longer First Bank Place unexcitingly named 225 South Sixth.

Also, the overview image is photoshopped.  Being a huge Minneapolis fan (and living in St.Paul), I've seen this image thousands of time and the IDS is way taller in this pic than it is in real life. Just being nit picky.

I was gonna say 225 South Sixth and Wells Fargo are my favorite.  I do like First Liberty in Philadelphia (and I think the Comcast Center is going to be beautiful)

america's best skyscraper without a doubt is the sear's tower. it still holds all 4 criteria for tallest in the western hemisphere and still holds 3 in the world(i'm not sure since taipei but petronas only beat the sears on 1 criteria, which just so happens to be the one that is used for 'tallest', CHEATERS!!!! lol) and the thing was built in the 70s almost 40 years ago and it's still holding its own.

but this is my personal favorite: 191 Peachtree Tower

Ids2-some of the freedom tower pics are from previous versions, that are far off from the one they are constructioning right now.

#1-Freedom Tower

awesome beautiful tall skyscraper. will be worlds tallest for a year until the Burj Dubai is complete (if they ever finish it, i think somthings gonna go wrong with that mammoth).
