An issue with commuters

I've downloaded the NAM and I'm still getting irritating zots over my buildings.
In the end, I end up with a handful of abondoned buildings or even a city of abandoned buildings. What's more, Sims are so lazy that a drive across 5 tiles of avenue is long. I'm getting sick of these nonsense my sims put up against me and I'm so fed up because my population never increases then.
Can someone recommend me some really good mods to change those problems? Or maybe a modder could create a new mod for these problem. I would be eternally grateful to him or her.

*PS: I wouldn't want the anti delapitation mod because some people say there's a bug in it.

It could have something to do with the wealth level of the sims?? how many R$, R$$ and R$$$ do you have in your city? perhaps you dont have enough jobs for your R$$$ sims.

search for it on the forums, there tons of stuff on this problem out there..4.gif

Well, I've demolished all the R$$$ buildings because all they do is sit there and blacken. So there's not much R$$$ residents left. But my R$ & R$$ are complaining that a trip on subway to an office 8 tiled away is long.

Anyway, I raised funding for roads to 120% and it still seems that these idiots do not have the sense to take the shortest possible route to their work.

I'm really sick of these illogical lazy Sims. It's as if work is their life. It's so disgusting to see them behave like that. Eurgh...

Just give me some tips on how to solve this problem. I'll be forever greatful.

There are a few abandonment mods out there, kaploosh, some better than others. Bones1 made one that isn't very radical and makes the game play much more realistic and as far as I can tell, it's bug free. Never caused any problems for me. It's also selective, meaning you can decide what wealth levels you want it to affect.

As far as the commute...well, they're lazy and not much can be done short of eliminating all roads. I have many cases where they'll drive down the block or across the street...less than the 6 tiles that is said to be their upper limit of exertion. Drives me crazy, but I haven't been able to find much I can do about it.

If you download Radical Ordinance V2.0 there are 3 city ordinances that should help you. They are called:

MT Strategy Fastest method of commute

    MT Strategy Carpool Incentive

    MT Strategy Mass Transit

You can choose any of those but normally I just click on "Fastest method of commute" because if you click on carpool or mass transit it forces every one to do that. And last time I did the mass transit I lost 70,000 sims because they all abandon they apartments. But of course if you are prepared and you have enough subways and bus stops I guess you are good to go.

OH YEAH P.S. When you download it MAKE SURE you delete the one that is called Auto Ordinance Toggle YOU DO NOT WANT THAT. It constently enacts ordinances you do not click on. (and most of the time its ones you don't want)

Well I hope that helps. Private Message me if you need help.

    Yay! Thanks!

Alright , my city's going well again and so I decided to start a completely new city. Now, I'm stuck with a really freaky problem.

My resident lives right next to his workplace. Just next door. Not even one tile away and he starts to complain that he's jobless. It's like this:

    _______

    RJ-------

R is that fellow who has no job and J is that fellow's job. the line above is and avenue. As you can see, this is very ridiculous. I don't know what these idiots in my city want from me now. Can someone explain why is that fussy guy complaining he's jobless?

Because he's a Sim, and Sims are extremely lazy. He's probably waiting for the job to come to HIM! (Idea for SC5...add an electric chair to the jail and a U-Juice-'em mission for lazy whiners like you have!)

Commute in simcity really sucks. The only type of traffic is commute (ie between R and C or I, and only for working). No traffic for shopping, recreation, health etc. And if the simulator can find a shorter but also slower (eg streets) path, the game will choose this one. NAM better and "perfect" pathfinding do help but not very much.

I plonked the entire NAM into my plugins folder. Didn't even bother to see what it contained.

Anyway, could someone teach me how to mod? So I can get rid of these commute nonsense. Or maybe someone could do the mod.

PS: Iwould prefer if someone taught me how to mod because I've not contributed to Simtropolis before. (Just don't tell Webmaster Dirk I didn't contribute.)

ahem...you want to create a second NAM? do you have any idea the level of technical know how and time it took to make the one we have now? not only that, how did you "plunk" the whole thing in? it comes with an installer which asks you what you want to install, unless you are using an older version.

if you are using an older version and you did put in everything then that would explain your wierdness, not everything that comes with the NAM is intended or should be installed at the same time. get the latest version and read the instructions. also, only go for the better pathfinding methods not the perfect. I used the perfect and got all kinds of abandonment, I use better now and my cities are very stable.

also, there are many reasons why a sim could live next to a job and not have work. not every sim can work in every job. there is a lot that goes on when computing jobs, wealth level and education being the most important. it could be that all the jobs he was qualified for in that commercial zone were already filled so he could not work there.

my final piece of advice is to not worry one lick about commute time. the average commute in most of my cities is above 200 according the chart and I have no or little abandoment anywhere. I only use the better pathfinding mod from NAM when it comes to commute times and traffic modding. the key is to set up your road and mass transit network in a well organized fashion. this takes time, patience and practice.

I went through about 5 or 6 different designs before comming up with one that was both unique and that worked and now I have cities with 300k and growing which are stable and healthy, no abandonment.

if you really want to learn to mod to post a request in the modding forums and I am sure you will get plenty of takers to be your tutor.
