I love the new updates. Especially the last one with the train boards. I might do something like that.

I don't usually bother trying to keep up with city journals as it would take up far too much of my time. I make an exception for yours. Frogface...your cities are stunning! I especially like the considered design of the transit networks. It seems as though you have put quite a bit of thought into where and why certain roads and rails should be laid. And layered atop that is an interesting, engaging story and history of this fictional land. I've actually saved pictures of your layouts to study for inspiration.

Keep up the fine work! I (and many, many others) eagerly await the next installment!

Cheers.

Wow. I am speechless about this CJ. Wonder why not a lot of people put this on their list of CJ's on the signatures? If I had a list this would be #1. Great work! 44.gif29.gif

EDIT: Cool, I'm a Dweller now.

very very nice, as a Transport Planner i'm not too keen on seeing a major road building scheme such as the M5! 29.gif

The motorway plans seem to be very ambiteous and reminisant of our great period of motorway building! Though personally I wouldn't have three major motorways merging into eachother! If it were me planning the scheme I would have done this...

(forgive me if the placements are wrong)

untitled18.jpg
But you see what I am hinting at. There would be a Thames City Bypass with spurs going into the Metro area. I might also have a all purpose route going toward Mudsea. The M5 would still link up with the docks. However, the current system is well thought out but could we have a motorway network map?

The language signs are good too! reminds me of going that that great country called Wales!!!!

nb the road numbers are by me (exept for M10 and M5)

GingerBlokey: i'll be interested to see what you come up with 2.gif
Aran:thanks 44.gif as a fan of most kinds of transport I pay more attention to that aspect and so I try to make them as realistic as I can within SC4's limitations. my long morning walks s when I cook up stories for Thames. I try to give it some background history, there always has to be a reason why things happen 19.gif
Vegeta The Puppet: thanks 5.gif quite amazing actually page 17, none of my CJ's have gone on that long before I got bored of them. The good thing about a whole country instead of a city is that I can constantly find interesting things to update about 9.gif
    1dera3:thanks 44.gif
davejowsey: lol, the UK's motorway network is pretty established so I doubt we will see any massive new motoways but motorways are still in thier infancy in Thames but the network I dont think will be that extensive as the country is covered well by railway 2.gif
wallasey: i'll reply to this later with an update 3.gif but good post, i'll definately take some into consideration
    sharkbait16 :thanks a lot 2.gif

    Cant wait for the update!

Back onto this one though, It's really great to see a combination of motorway and rail. It's so common throughout the UK if not the world! The archive photo was intersting showing the cutting still there and not developed over. On the Wirral, the old West Wirral line from Hooton to West Kirby was chopped by Beeching, now the old line is a pleasant country walk with the added convienance that there are no roads to cross! Anyway, I digress! I also liked the powerlines passing through the Motorway junction, I imagine that there is a power station nearby?

PS if anone is interested, a big motorway development in the UK at the moment is the A1 upgrade in Yorkshire. The old A1 is being downgrapged with brand new streches of the A1(M) being built. Some stretches are already open!

wallasey: yes I noticed while going tthe length of the M6 on my school trip you were never far from a rail line, sadly didn't see many trains 18.gif my town has a cycle trail which used to be an old line that was deemed unprofitable but these days it could make quite a bit of money as there is only 1 line to london which is really congested. about the powerlines there is a nuke plant nearby 38.gif but also I wanted to make that interchange aea feel more like disused land. in response to the last post: reply1.jpg

heres a transport map which is probably better. The M5 and A3 bit you have there is already done is some form 2.gif so we sort of do have a loop except part of it is 4 lanes instead of 6. upgrading to motorway would be possible but eat up room as there are streets branching onto the dual carriageway like feeder roads.
A2 is sadly difficult as to the west of the city is a major rail line in the way and a steep hill. with some clever tunelling its possible but the rail links are quite comprehensive in that area so its not a priority at the moment.
but thanks for the long replies 18.gif
    pipishere: thanks 44.gif
highstreet:  will you be making a cj of your region? 19.gif
/Zumi/: now you mention that it does have an odd resemblance 18.gif

First of all I am allways impressed by your regional shots. Having a rural (temporairily paused) CJ by my own I admire your overall rural layout - just great!!!

I am really looking forward what you are going to do with this new base. I must commit seeing such a developement from scratch is really fascinating (allthough you replaced a railway line with a road 8.gif)

I really wonder what you are gong to do with the avenue and the two roads ending in last pic's lower left corner ...

love the transportation view! The West Coast main line follows most of the M6 especially from Wigan to Carlisle. The best point to see the railway on the M6 is between J33/32 in Lancashire and also around J38 at Tebay.

The new town plans look very interesting, is this going to be Thames answer to Stevenage, Milton Keynes and the legendary Skem?

i hope that the new town works out here, sometimes (from my experiance) people soon find that there are no jobs so as a suggestion, you might want to build some kind of industry park (like Skem and Kirkby did) so that the bulk of the inhabitants stay in the area and dont have to commute great distances.

Its a really great idea this is and I await to see how this develops!

    Well done!

Great story FF, and the pics are very inspirational.

Just one thing, I though you Brits had a Department of Defence like us Colonials, rather than the US Department of Defense.42.gif

Mr Piggy:Yes it is still growing although land is running out 14.gif most growth from now on I expect will be through re-generation and increasing density 19.gif

    Glenni:thanks for commenting 44.gif

Nardo69:thanks for commenting 29.gif very sad i know replacing that line 8.gif but it was prefered that the new town have its own central station

wallasey: while on the M6 we stopped north of morecambe on the bay (we had to do some geography work measuring stones..21.gif) but it was right next to the WCML so i kept an eye out for the trains 18.gif industry will be added to the new town but ive noticed some commuting to nearby towns which is good 19.gif anyway here is the motorway map you requested

deadwoods: it was 1am when i did the update... my spelling isnt so good then 17.gif

You pull of the small fishing village very well. I just love the boats along the beach, so authentic.

Transport maps and new road planning! Excellent! It's nice to see all the changes on the map of the rail network, and a great way to follow the pictures but putting an inset of that part of the rail plan.

I like the whole Watton Gap thing. Very true to life, with gaps in incomplete networks that for whatever reason (money, environment, etc.) were never completed before. You cover that sort of issue quite well here.

Mr Piggy: thanks9.gifI will try to get a large region pic sometime 2.gif as for the flats I cant remember but they're fairly old now 42.gif
    sharkbait16:thanks 5.gif
oroen:i'm always making changes to it 18.gif sadly the M2 ring has had many funding problems and currently a bit useless as it goes nowhere to nowhere. Hopefully the Watton gap will be bridged someday though 2.gif

    <ahttp://www.imgcity.net/server/primary/ThamesXC%20copy.jpg align=baseline>
    only a small update.
From tommorow Thames' commuter rail system will be rebranded under the Thames Cross City name but more importantly significant changes to services! XC services are designed as an easier way to cross the city as most the services will continue through the city centre.
However there are some concerns over possible congestion and especially at stations such as Thames Airport and Hailsham and especially the city centre corridor.

    Frogface,

this CJ has lots of new roads being built, but what about air travel? I would like to see the government trying to get an airport expanded, but having lots of obstacles like nearby residents or enviromental concerns.

    Congratulations Frogface!
It is one of the best CJ's!

I like the way you use the railway. How did you get the railways to have those overhead cables? They look very realistic! I had noticed that the railways aren't perfect, but now I discovered what was missing! The cables.

Also I liked that housing complex, where those big buildings found. Are they ploppables? If they are plopps, how did you get them work?? If not, how did you arrange that same buildings were to be build?

What bats' do you use? I think mainly your own ones.. 2.gif

    //Sorry for my English 41.gif//

Good ol' Liberty Islands! Someday, I'll repost my old CJ.
